Yes I’m just seeing this for first time. Lol Absolutely loved this! Cesar you’ve helped me train all my dogs! Finally got a ESS(Springer) pup that actually didn’t become a pool monkey on its own so came here for help. I didn’t want to do anything that might traumatize my girl. As always brilliant! P.S. I’m not a huge social media person. During Covid I gave in a bit and was shocked how many haters you have. I’ve been with and researched dog trainers/dog psychologists. And you have never steered me wrong. Biggest most asinine things ppl say about you is you’re mean and dominance in a pack is not a thing.🤯 These ppl make me lose faith in humanity at times. Anyhoo I can’t afford you, my mom considered it 😅 but have been able to with your help and sometimes with trainers like you have 3 amazing dogs. Also I dogsit with confidence multiple dogs at a time because of you! You won’t see this especially cuz of how long this is but that’s okay. I just wanted to TY! I will always recommend you!❤

I love that we're raising puppies at the same time. You keep showing me all the things I'm introducing my pup to also :D. Its striking how you teach dogs to get out first. My mom can teach any kid how to cycle in no time. She doesn't hold the cycle, she teaches them how to stop safely. Put your foot down! So they have the confidence to start cycling, they're not afraid to fall.

@@scotttower8213 Have you tried supporting him underneath like Cesar did in this vid, until your dog gets his water balance? Perhaps invite a dog friend or 2 who comfortably swim along would also build encouragement.. That’s how my rescue girl learnt, by watching other dogs..she was about 5 years old, terrified of everybody/everything EXCEPT others dogs.. I used other ppl’s dogs A Lot in her rehab to build her confidence.. she’s pretty fantastic now but took a lot of patience
      Good luck :-)

One of the most impressive things about Cesar’s teaching is his patience. Most people would quit because the puppy seemed scared of the water or they would get anxious. Cesar understands the need for repetition and patience until the dog can become calm and learn something new.

many years ago ( 7+) when I was teaching my dog to get over the fear of water, I watched a discovery channel video to see if there was a better way and figured out I was the problem and the solution. the crazy idea of not being frustrated with the dog or myself and just let the dog want to be in the water because her favorite toy was there, I got a 25 foot lead left the dog at the shore and just walked in and had a good time with her ball within a few minutes she was in to get her ball and before she could get back to shore I just called her to bring the ball back to me and tossed it back towards the shore a few times. she got over her fears that day and never needed a leash to go in. soon I watching the whole series and learned a lot, thanks Cesar

He had never been around a pool before. And they wanted to see if he’d be ok. Well the boxer jumped in while they were talking. And he didn’t know what to do. He sank to the bottom like a rock. And this was on the deep end. The host had to jump in after the dog. After that the swimming lessons started. 🤪

My dog loves to swim, but he drinks water while doing so. To the point where he throws up and then continues swimming. I cant let him swim on the beach because then he gets really sick. How can i teach him to no drink water while swimming

Dan R as soon as he’s starts to drink it, remove him from it. Allow him to calm down and try again. When he doesn’t drink it, let him swim or provide praise and rewards. This will take a hell of a lot of patience, but you must remain calm and never over react in times of frustration. This would be the first thing I’d try, but realise you will have to do it often and repeatedly for him to learn and make it a natural behaviour.

Dan R Maybe try to redirect his attention to a food/ treat while he swims in the pool so that he'll keep his head up.
Try to say "head up" as he tries to understand what your trying to do until he associates "head up" with the food/treat that your holding up in front of him as he swims. When he follows through, feed him the food/treat and give praise such as good boy as a positive reinforcement.
Try a couple of times with food/treat along with "head up" command, then try without food/ treat but still speak the "head up" command with your hand gesture going up.
Make this a way for him to exercise his mind and body everyday. If you notice his not being attentive the first time, try doing this at a much shallow part of the pool and let him sit while you're training him to follow your hand gesture "head up" with food/treat. Then try bringing him back to the water and see if he'll remember the command.
Do a back and forth between shallow part of the pool and while he's swimming until he gets it. I hope you both have a successful training and bonding :)

I’m definitely not a dog trainer but if you took him away from the water when he does that and gave him water from his own bowl then he might eventually learn that is where he drinks

I think I would try an inflatable innertube that could serve as an inflated collar. Depending on the size of your dog perhaps an innertube intended for a garden wagon wheel. I envision the inner tube being so buoyant that he cannot dip his mouth into the water for lapped.
I don’t imagine it would be necessary forever, i’m thinking it would only be necessary long enough for him to enjoy swimming without vomiting a few times. THAN I think I would try some of the other suggestions offered above.
