- Varosha is an abandoned southern quarter of the Cypriot city of Famagusta. Before 1974, it was the modern tourist area of the city. Its inhabitants fled during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, when the city of Famagusta came under Turkish control, and it has remained abandoned ever since. As of 2019, the quarter continues to be uninhabited; buildings have decayed, and, in some cases, their contents have been looted over the years; some streets have been overgrown with vegetation; and the quarter is generally described as a ghost town. Entry is forbidden to the public.

Me and my family lived in a lovely flat 6 Lincoln Street from 1969-1972 and I was born in Akrotiri in 1962 when my father was first sent on tour to Cyprus in the RAF. We were based in Limassol then. I will NEVER forget my life there - it was truly magical for me as a 10 year old. I am so grateful of the memories I still have 🙏🏻✨
I lived in Famagusta from 1969-1972 as a child and to see it like this is testimony to how little the human race has progressed. What is wrong with us. For goodness sake let the people return to where they belong. This is their place of home! I bless you all and pray that the hearts of the people that have brought this about truly wonderful heart opens up in common sense prevails.

You can return to your property and home.It opens. You will just live in the Turkish Republic Northcyprus.Congratulations my friend
@@alperkucuktekin4563 I can’t because it’s was taken by the Turks and it may have a Turkish family living in it illegally
What a beautiful city. This is so much better than Dubai.
Margaret we lived in Kato Varosha outside the 'walled city of Famagusta' from 1959-1961 at 2a Drossinis Street - we had a dog named Viva and even he knew the way home:-)))
Why?? Illegally stolen from The People who lived there. Varosha was Beautiful, the Cypriot Rivereira. Now a destroyed Ghost Town. In the name of Humanity, let the PEOPLE whom it was stolen from Return to their homeland. 🙏🙏🙏
Greeks lost the war and gave this city to Turks. That's it.
What happened here is a disgrace, it's a beautiful stretch of beach & whomever lived here before the annexation should be allowed to return to their property. I swam there as a kid & it was the spookiest swim I ever had. It seemed a lot bigger then.
Wow, I will always cheer for you in Korea I'm looking forward to a great video. Have a nice day.
5:30 That's the place "Nevermindyourown" parked where he shot his awesome drone video from Varosha. Check it out 👍
DarkCreatorn correct...where the guy behind the rocks called the police...!
@@heligeorge yup haha! ratted him out!
Muy interesante!
yes, very unusual place
I like your video for it helped me understand about why Varosha was abandoned by the original occupants - I sub... to your channel
Once a thief, always a thief. The story of Turks....
Mrt Vrk I am not Greek neither Cypriot darling
@SilverOrien THAT IS HOW WAR WORKS DUMBASS what do you think every country begun with the lands that they have today
@@deepdozer wasn't war and why wasn't it war ? because if the Turks went to war with Cyprus they'd end up declaring war against Britain which would end terribly as it would drag the US, Russia etc and cause WW3
@Imay well let me put it this way. say you had a girlfriend living at your house. While there you guys get into an argument and you have a fight because you want your older brother to move in who you're close with. Instead of speaking it over you guys have a fight and her family move in and try and throw you out of the house. You tried and explain what's going and that its your right, as its your house that he should be able to move in but the gf just gets more pissy and so what happens is that your house gets split in half. Your tv, pc, and fridge are in the 1/3 that was taken and you cant get that back. you understand now? The north generated a shit tonne in tourism and the Turks took it knowing full well what it meant to the greeks. The north has nicer beaches while the south, which is still beautiful is not as comparable
Absolutely
Thanks for providing this
You thanks this is beautiful people lost their lives in this place and their livelihood 46 years later they still haven't given any kind of monetary reparation for what they stole from them now the Turkish government opens up to everybody to see a ghost town that they destroyed what used to be full of life people walking around gawking at other people's misery
I agree
The weapons must be put down on both sides. We are all brothers and sisters in this world, so let’s unite together EVERY man, woman and child and be prepared to accept our differences and respect the diversity this would bring. Instead of carrying on old ancestral destructive beliefs passed down from generation to generation, let’s turn around and look at it! Look at the pain and suffering it has caused. We are better than that. We don’t need to be those people anymore. “Love thy neighbour”.
Thanks very much for your advice...
I am Turkish cypriots i do understand your point..
But greek cypriots never understood that's the main reason Cyprus is divided if the greek cypriots wasn't attacked to Turkish cypriots maras (varosa) much better than all over the world they are still not respecting us that's why Cyprus never be joining together.

I thought Varosha was fully abandoned and no one was allowed to pass and go there?
There is only a small part of the beach left where many people sunbathe during the summer season. The rest of Varosha is surrounded by a fence and it's a financial penalty if you enter there.
There is a girls dormatory.Dormatory, turkish army camps habitants and registered taxi drivers are only allowed

If ever there were an indication of how religious indoctrinations can destroy humanity this is certainly it. I loved the island before bigotry lifted its gowns to sink the place into hell for selfish greed and power. Still love both peoples and always will - Nikos, Maria, Andrulla, Elenitza, Louisos, Juni, Paniota, Andreas, Ozzie, Muhterem and family, and Manna Ice-cream Factory. And 2a Drossinis Street + our hero dog Viva:-))
I lived in Famagusta in Feb.1960 for 3yrs & never heard of Varosha ,loved the island so sad to see the way it went visited again but wwasnt allowed to wonder around as love to have looked for the street we lived in Marcous avrillias & were Greek Cypriots living on one side of us & Tyrkish Cypriots the other side & all got on .we used to have coffee with shop owner Demos Stavros Taki owned a shop & still have the camel stole bought from him ,Happy days .
Camel stool has the old name places on it Nicosia Dhekelia Troodos Famagusta ,& hotel we used Myrtle Bank wich they took down brick by brick to rebuild in Troodos .
As an very much oldie; 'fan8281' and I are on different planets. I've been bombed out of houses twice in WW11 by those who thought they were Aryans and was narrowly missed by two bombs on another occasion during that period. I've seen the mess this world has become and have studied this COSMOS for over 58 years along-with its lifeforms. I experienced the calamities of Varosha and elsewhere on the island but I always had a great respect for the wonderful folks I met who were wise and intelligent. Cyprus is an island in the Med' and when folks realize that and learn to get on together without indoctrination it will return to be that beautiful place I know it could be........ Who caused all the wars throughout history 'fan8281' - have you an intelligent answer???????
My father used to live there.. when he was 16 turkish soldiers tried to kill him but he managed to escape.. they burned his house down and killed his next door neighbours family and hung them up in pieces on their house... I would not be here today if he did not escape on time
i cant wait till the famous famagusta is back on the map for holidays
Is it re open?
Η Κύπρος της Αμμοχώστου καταλαμβάνεται από τους Τούρκους και όλα τα βόρεια τμήματα καταλαμβάνονται και πρέπει να επιστραφούν στους αρχικούς τους ιδιοκτήτες. Famagusta Cypriot lands are occupied by the Turks and all the northern parts are occupied, and they must be returned to their original owners.
Bla bla blah
Agreed
