That was actually me braking at 3:03, without disc brakes, but with Mavic Carbone SLR Clincher wheels which have a special "Exalith technology" braking surface - does make a unique sound. Daniel
I rode the pass last year and I was very surprised by the phenomenon dan discribes...I was pacing quite nicely, quite hard but still comfortable and felt like I could hold on to that forever but at like 2400/500metersI literally hit a wall....and I had to go considerably slower. Really weird!
this is one of your best for me. Just literally put a pair of Schwalbe Stelvio's on my 1993 Specialized Allez and they are amazing, got them on eBay, $35 USD for the pair shipped, honestly best tires ive rode ever. Ill probably buy more while the seller has them sadly their not on the Schwalbe website anymore...
I did the Gran Fondo Stelvio in 2016 and 2018 (the long route). It a very well orginized event and the food stops are juste excelent. If you ever get the chance you must do it.
I absolutely love these videos. Great cinematic quality and awesome content! Question for Daniel - do you still keep up a pro-level training schedule or do you only ride for leisure now?
I’m still a novice at all this and when I heard he’s riding 39/25 as his lowest gear, I nearly fell off my sofa ... I’ve just bought a road bike, to go alongside the gravel bike I brought as a decent all rounder to start with. My ‘new’ lowest gear is 34/28, the previous lowest was 32/32(!), so the idea of 21km of uphill with nothing lower than some of my mid-gears is terrifying!
Is it a lack of available oxygen that occurs when increasing in altitude or rather the decrease in atmospheric pressure pressing the air into the lungs during respirations?

He is indeed, it was his first ride out on it, and he loved it.
What a wonderful video, so beautifully filmed. Well done GCN/Dan!
The quality of the videos on this channel is just insane
Beautifully shot footage, great video!
added the link in the video description above! :-)
39-25? well Dan, are you still able to climb the stelvio with these gears. i wonder...
i was very glad with my 34-28 when i went up.
I can't wait to go back to these days when GCN does epic rides outside of the UK.

Listen at 3:03 and you'll have your answer. That's a unique sound as the brake is applied. Beautiful video, awesome climb!
I love watching these old clips with Dan "The Boss" Lloyd
Its over 20km!!
Great vid! Am hoping to do this climb in the summer.
Very nicely shot video, keep up the good work!

Hope to go there this summer 🙏
39-25 gear ratio for an experienced amateur rider... now that's a freakin' hard climb to do !!!
btw, you guys rock. keep these cool videos coming
I'm running 39/53 front 11-32 back lol
Boss! Need more of this
That kit is flying! Where to get it? I can't find any info on the web...

Its much harder to ride it from Prato. No time to rest and steepest part is last 5 km.
The registration ist still not open ?

What is the title of this song ?
Stilfserjoch, Sud Tirol
Watching this in 2021 😁
Is it a lack of available oxygen that occurs when increasing in altitude or rather the decrease in atmospheric pressure pressing the air into the lungs during respirations?
no
Lack of oxygen due to reduced atmospheric pressure at high altitude
just arrived on the foot, done many passes in the alps, but man i’ m almost shitting my pants in front of this one
wish i coul be there
Why is he doing it on that Tank ? :L (The Venge)
Wouldn't have liked to be riding down the Stelvio relying on disc brakes! (not so much the braking power, but rather the overheating!)
EPIC
Like the amateur stuff on GCN, the pros have already enough media attention.
dang I'm running 39/53 lol
Why is he doing It
The visual content of this video was fine, but the intrusive audio adds nothing and spoils it.
