@@xPrivateFigure but come one man, let the guest speak as well 😂 usually when we hear the guest speak is when they’re telling a story about Gil 😂 love him though. Big fan of his. Got a lot of knowledge for the game and should be on a team staff
Man I remember I ran 12 miles once at 260lbs, and every thing he said is true. Miles 1-3 I was fighting this wall of “ok I don’t want to do this”. Then miles 3-6 it’s like a crazy body high feels like you could run forever. Miles 6-8 body feels like it’s in pain. After you push through the pain it’s like your body is in autopilot from miles 8-12. I left after mile 12 cause I believe it started raining. It’s amazing what your mind can do once you stop focusing on everything and just push through whatever is in front of you
This is one of the best videos I've ever watched. He just explained how he entered a state of samādhi (समाधि), or complete absorption with his basketball shot. This is what life is all about. Everything else is nonsense. Get to it, dear friends...
This is what made someone like Kobe, so special. It wasn’t that he was just talented, the dude would outwork everyone on the court, every night. He wanted it more than anyone else, straight up. But, his greatness was honed in the gym, in many off seasons. When other dudes were going on vacation and chilling on a beach, Kobe was putting in the work, to get even better. This is why players like Kuzma, who would much rather dress up goofy and do runway shows, during their offseason, stay as fringe players. “How bad do you want it?” A lot of these current fringe players don’t want it enough.
And that’s perfectly fine if a player doesn’t want to dedicate their entire existence to the game. There’s more to life for some players. But you’re right, you’ll never get to the top doing it that way. Kuz has had a great career considering, man was never expected to be as good as he is now
I respect how humble an down to earth Gilbert is, an how humble he is to the game of basketball an other players game skills. I just feel he is underrated an not talked about enough..💯🐐
I took THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of shots like hes talking about for YEARS! what i realized from all those shots is the most important part to making shots consistently is a proper follow-through on every shot. A consistent follow through will negate negative factors such as a bad form or not jumping optimal on jumpshots. A simple way to master it is simply hold the follow through until the shot reaches the rim make or miss
damn straight I never shot as much as you, but the moment I started doing that and not thinking about my shot suddenly I was making shit. Hit two game winners in three practice games for my small town "Hobby" team lol.
@@cognitivedisability9864 im not saying i took thousands of shots every day im saying in general thousands of shots. I never counted how many i took made or missed but i know when i woke up the next day shoulders would be sore like i was doing sets of push ups all day the day before so it was alot of shots mostly top of the key threes for 3-4 hours straight with 5 mins break/rest all together
Gil was a great player and I loved watching him…it’s amazing how he did all of this and then you’ll think about the true greats of the game. Gil doesn’t matched up to them so I can only imagine how truly blessed you have to be to be a great in a sport
Damn that's some shit I needed to hear. I'm starting to really get into training my body and there's days that it's screaming at me and I give in to weakness and unravel the discipline I've worked towards. I need to train my mind so that thought is never even an option.
That's crazy, workout to you black out. Shooting 1,000 shots at 5 diferent spots on the floor. What nba player is doing that now? None. Gil ur the best.
KD. Giannis. Steph. And to a lesser extent, Dame & LeBron. But I think that's it, unless you count a few new guys who might give it up soon. Good question.
@@johnnybrison4150 No one shoots that many. Gil maybe did it this once. I'm talking about the dudes that be shooting 1,000 to 2,000 makes daily in the off-season. I've asked NBA friends, and those are the names I got. Maybe they're lying, I dunno 🤷🏾♂️
Bunch of guys you don't know. And this is stupid, what he's saying. In the last 20 years we've learned a lot. You can't outwork your healing rate. It's not the work, it's the recovery. Arenas shooting numbers are not all time epic like he makes it sound. You could always get by him on defense. Here's a tip. Watch these vids with Arenas' actual stats open in another tab. More is not always better. Rarely is, in fact.
I remember Quinn Cook saying in an interview he does two a day workouts in the off season. I think a lot of dudes are getting it in honestly. Maybe not 5000 shots but daily grinding
If anyone has done anything that really pushes you. You know exactly what he is talking about. Your brain has this battle this conflict at first. Where random excuses or reasons to stop. And you will keep telling yourself the opposite to keep going. Screw that. And eventually you will either quit or something clicks to where you start playing these little games that Gilbert was talking about. Little things to focus on that keeps you engaged and from stopping. And then you will start remembering random things that happened in your life. Usually something that made you very upset or mad. Very dramatic experiences and it’s almost like you are dreaming and not in your body. It’s very strange what the mind does when the body is pushed
figured this out alone at the court one day, got to the point where i started shooting from 3 with my eyes closed or starring at my opponent to left or right of me. the "Oh shit/wtf" looks i used to get ill never forget lol
Love hearing all this,. As someone who pissed away their opportunity’s in baseball it’s cool to hear from someone who didn’t and proceeded to meet their potential. I try to explain this to my daughter and I can’t help but feel like a poser knowing I waisted my chance and preaching to her about going about it with everything she has.
Being in the streets probably kept me from playing ball. He’s right about the 1k or 2k shots i learned that from Tom Izzo I can still shoot the blood out the ball.
That’s how my High School Varsity Coach did practice (ESPECIALLY IF WE JUST LOST*) we practice until either someone fainted 😵💫😴 or puked 🤢🤮 Thank you Coach Fernandez you NOT only made me into a better Basketball Player but a BETTER MAN.!!!
