  • This is a very basic video which shows the cable setup and basic technical settings required to connect a Roland BK7m to the Hammond SKX dual manual organ keyboard.

Good video Tony, this is my own setup, the BK-7m is the perfect partner for the SKX 👍

So how are you able to balance the volume of the backing track against the organ? The expression pedal does not sdjust the BK-7M.

Hi Bonners, I'm from Brazil and I used the translator to send you this message. My Bk7m after a short time connected via USB or via MID, the connection drops and I have to redo the wizard. Already checked the cables and are ok. Could you suggest something to solve this? Know a link where I can get information? Thanks.

Hello Tony, and other interested readers here. Thank you for the informative video! I have got the R BK-7m now, and I wonder if its possible to force the bass sound to play what I like. Especially when playing rootless chords and a bit complex chords, the automatic playing of bass sound doesn't play the tones I want (and therefore sounding a bit weird). If I lay an Am9 chord (ACDF), it plays C in bass even though I press down an A (as I want the bass to be) lower than the chord. Or it plays it plays G in bass if I press down the Bass inv button. It doesn't sound good. Can I force this module to play the way I want e.g. A in bass in this case, or is there another module in the market that I must look for that can perform what I ask for. My idea was to have an "advanced playing" band to rehearse with. Anny suggestions are welcome. Thanks again. Sincerely Stein.

Hi Stein, it sounds like you need to set the “BASS INV” button in the lower left corner so it is lit. This should solve the problem. Refer to page 32 of the manual for details. I hopemthis helps.

Questions Tony,#1 will this work with Nord 5D if so #2 any steps different.
Followed your video and there’s no sound from the Nord, just BK-7m sounds to play. I double checked the cords and now I will triple check them. Thank you so much for your help and sharing your ideas and knowledge with us

Hi Tommy, did you manage to get the BK 7 to work with your Nord?

Hi Tony, absolutely enjoy watching your videos! I own a Roland FR 4X digital accordion with MIDI connection. Would I be able to connect it to, let's say Yamaha PSR S775, Korg PA700, Roland EA7 or similar arranger keyboard and control the keyboard from my accordion like the BK7M, i.e. playing treble as per usual and controlling the backing style with bass/chord buttons on my accordion. Also using MIDI foot controller to operate the keyboard's syncro start/stop, fill variation etc.? Thank you. Keep up the good work.

I use a FR-4X through the BK-7M so I see no reason why you couldn’t control a keyboard that was midi capable. You just need to match the midi channel for the various function. The BK-7m has a wizard to do it for you . I also play a Hammond SK-x through the BK-7M. There are a few minor issues with that setup that I am trying to iron out because the BK wizard doesn’t do a perfect job. But you can certainly do what you asked about.

Is the bk7m volume controlled by the Hammond sweĺl pedal?

    • @bobvecchi304

I have the same problem. The swell pedal only controls the level of the sounds coming from the organ, not the BK-7M. I'm trying to resolve that myself.

@@bobvecchi304 hi Bob. Since writing my first post I now have all midi connected via a switch box and although i have not altered any settings on the BK7M, the expression pedal now controls this also. My guess is that there was a communication error where everything was "daisy chained." However, I also have added a Hammond XM1 along with a Ketron SD40 and neither of these are controlled by the swell. I need to spend time going through the midi channels and assign. If you are using more than one additional midi device I would recommend a switch box though. BK7M is a terrific unit though!

@@beaufighter245 I agree that the BK-7m was a great unit when it was introduced and it is a workhorse. But today’s sampling units have so much more available voices and styles. I have a Tyros 5 which has been obsolete for a few years that blows the BK-7m away, but you can’t beat the portability of the BK. I use it with my FR-4X v-accordion, it’s a perfect marriage for gigging. But I don’t see how the expression pedal of the SK-X can control volume of a device which would be downstream in the audio chain. I didn’t think it was sending midi signals. the BK has a “expression pedal” jack on the back which is function selectable but the programming choices do not include volume. So I am still at a loss.

@@bobvecchi304 hopefully the answer is somewhere in the midi channels but I have found the setting up a real challenge, still not there as I said with my other two units. Sometimes I think I'll leave well alone in case I lose the expression off the BK7M. Agree it is outdated but such an easy unit to use. Just a thought, I bought the Roland expression peddle but this is not much good in my opinion as the range is minimal. Happy playing anyhow.

Too bad that Roland discontinued the BK-7m :-( . And there´s no alternative product on marked...
