Great video! I have never tried any of those spots, but I hope to hit them up in the future. Some of my must try places on Convoy: 1. Phuong Trang Vietnamese Try the Beef Salad, Fish Sauce Chicken Wings, Fried Salted Shrimp with the shells on. Don't peel them. eat them whole. Ca Kho Catfish sautéed in fish sauce served with steamed rice. Manila Clams With Sweet Basil. This place rocks! 2. Convoy Tofu House Korean. Any of the soups and stews are to die for! 3. Nijiya Market Japanese. Lots of cool Japanese groceries and Sushi, Sashimi, and prepared meals to go. Delicious! 4. Spicy City Chinese. Behind where China Max used to be. The Walnut Shrimp are epic! Pretty much everything here is good! When and if Covid is over, check out Yakiudori. They are a good Ramen place in the morning and afternoon. In the evening they made the best Yakatori! OMG was it good! Not on Convoy, but close by: Sam Woo at the 99 Ranch on Clairmont Mesa Blvd. The best roast duck in San Diego. Get a couple to go to bring to a party or get together. You will blow people's minds! They have good cheap Chinese food to go too. Chaba Thai Kitchen. Excellent Thai food! Pretty much anything you get here is good. Linda Vista to the South: 1. Mien Trung Vietnamese. Bun Bo Hue, Bun Reui Oc. Central Vietnamese food. The place is like going to someone's house. You can see the kitchen and the Aunty's and Uncle's cooking in the kitchen. It is amazing! 2. K's Sandwiches. Great Bahn Mi sandwiches. Also Croissants and great drinks. Get a couple of Bahn Mi's to go! 3. Pho Hiep & Grill Vietnamese. Another Central Vietnamese restaurant. Solid Viet food! 4. Thuan Phat Market. Great place to do your Asian grocery shopping. A lot better for parking than the 99 Ranch.
If you like spicy food, you should try getting the spicy deep fried pig intestines at Spicy City. It is like fries on steroid. It’s wayyyyy better than those I’ve had in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Their Tan Tan noodle is also the most authentic and the absolute best I have had, even better than those in China. Fun fact: Walnut shrimp actually isn’t a Chinese dish :p There is also this place called Shanxi Magic Kitchen. Their Cumin Beef Noodle is addicting af. As someone who lived in Hong Kong and Taiwan half my life, I can say the Chinese food in SD is OP.
Although it is not exactly on the actual street on Convoy, you should definitely try Sushi Diner. Best American sushi-roll place I’ve had in California. Their Smokin’ Jamaican Roll is the greatest invention in American sushi history. The best thing about the place is that the sushi is actually made by real Japanese chefs so their use of ingredients is very promising. And they are relatively cheap compared to other places.
Chopstix, is a Japanese restaurant also located on Convoy st. that i've been going to for quite some time. Everything there is delish and fair priced. If you haven't gone ...go and you'll be glad you did.
When I saw your video title, I thought about Famous Waffle Sandwich. I'm so glad you stopped there and featured them. Great video Jay. You could have named this video, "4 Must Try Spots On Convoy Street and 1 Not So Much."
You are one of the best and brightest personalities on RUclips! Your content is fun and interesting .I hope and pray for you success on RUclips and beyond.
I enjoy your videos, you have great energy and enthusiasm. Work on doing some research about the food that you are reviewing. Char siu or chashu is pork not beef. Also it's miso, not misu. Think about using chopsticks and a white soup spoon when eating ramen brother, I think it will take your videos to another level and make it look even more delicious when you're eating it. Keep up the good work.
Great recommendations! Been to Up2You and it's a really cool spot Sul & Beans is an awesome spot for Korean shaved ice, the green tea and sesame are so good!
You should’ve replaced Shanghai saloon with cross street, and highlight their chicken and waffles. Their chicken tenders are delicious with their Dense Liege waffles and syrup butter.
Nice video.. Convoy just has sooooo many choices. My go to Ramen place has been RakiRaki w/any ramen they have along with their chicken karaage😁 then Somi Somi for desserts. Love Tajima Convoy spicy sesame ramen - pre-COVID if the place was busy we would try to hit up Tajima on Mercury😉. Another go to place for me is Cake de Partie - desserts and savory food. Fried banana roti basically fancy Turon with ice cream 👍... great selection of crepes and you can’t go wrong with Pork Rice plates or Tom Yum Spaghetti top than off with “drunk” versions of ice drinks like mango passion fruit. Further south on Convoy - MNGO Café - mango shaved ice desserts. Usually hit this place up after eating at Manna or Cross Street. Can’t wait to see more video’s.
@@Jaycation Yeah, love all the choices especially Ramen places in SD... funny how both RakiRaki and Menya are now in Mira Mesa too...I live in Poway and had Menya in MM last night😁 yum... last I ate at Menya was the Clairemont location 👍.
If you have a sweet tooth then you should try out Cauldron's Ice Cream on Convoy ^-^ They make the ice creams into a Rose shape. I'd recommend the Moon, Stars and Sun flavor (I think that is the name, don't quote me cause I am not 100% sure lol but it's something like that). Thanks for the like and comment on my recommendations for Vietnamese food recently Jaycation! ♥
What's up, love the vid!! I miss home "SD" all day!! and miss Convoy St, I'm on deployment as of now, 5th Fleet Middleeast. Make a vid of night life on Convoy, u walked right pass my spot THE BREAKROOM (pool shootin hustlers) , also the HIVE and the Carriage House are good spots. Hey I'd like to purchase some of ur clothing, do u ship to FPO, AP (Military address)?
Galbi (beef short rib) and Bossam (pork belly) are pretty good at Min Sok Chon! I'm also impressed how consistently their kimchi is (might be the best in San Diego...but you have to ask for it). Pair all this with some steamed rice and a nice cold Sapporo or soju (Chamisul "original")...yum!
I love RakiRaki! I haven't tried their Tsukemen (dipping ramen) but I love their regular ramen. And I have to try the other places...waffle sandwiches, brick toast, and boba! How the heck do we not gain 30 lbs. with all these recommendations??
Love the content Jay! I used to eat at Jasmine all the time when I lived there. I loved the duck. It has changed so much, it is almost unrecognizable. Thanks for the tour around Convoy St.
As someone from Shanghai, have to say that the Dumpling Inn & Shanghai Lagoon is a huge disappointment. I have no idea why some many people go there, probably because there’s no better place to go, which is sad :(
Can't wait for you to go back and check out some more of Convoy! 5 restaurants really isn't enough to choose hahaha. Whenever I decide to try out my parking luck in the Convoy area, I would eat the chicken curry at Tajima. Even though I live close to the one in north park, the Convoy location is only one with the curry dish 😅. I also like their ramen, for their consistent tasting broth and beers on tap. Not the best tasting ever, but consistent 👍 dope video as usual Jay!
1. Cross street chicken and beer for friend chicken 2. Bing haus for dessert 3. Friends house restaurant for Korean food 4. Olleh - All you can eat Korean meet 5. Sushi - sushi kuchi
i still believe that they should’ve put something better in place lime some good restaurant of where the old jack in the box used to be at the corner of balboa and convoy street instead of that what carmax did
I won't give you crap about not using chopsticks. I will give you crap for not getting the soup dumplings. The soup dumplings are the best thing on the menu at Shanghai Saloon.
Hey Jaycation! Regarding your last spot, dumplings. The price is about the same here in San Francisco and through out San Mateo County where I live. The plain bun you've ordered and didn't like, that's actually my favorite childhood bun called "man thoa boa". Come out here and we'll show you some of our favorite spot of Taiwanese & Shanghai dumpling food. Stay eating from Pacifica, Cali :)
Boba Bar, SomiSomi, KBBQ Prime Grill, and of course, Kura (if you can get in) are also good spots too. Ive heard Shanghai Saloon is good too but they may have closed down for good. Never got to try it.

That liquor store next to share tea sandwiches are fire the best on convoy
There’s a spot on Convoy called “Cake de Partie” great suffle pancakes and layered crepe cakes. They serve savory foods as well.

In the corner of the building by RakiRaki is Tapioca Express. TapEx is my go-to for brown sugar boba!
I tried Up2you Cafe for the first time last weekend. I got the crepe and it was delicious.
I love crepes! Reminds me of France and all the good times over there.
Need some good Lao food!
I m putting on my list to do San Diego.
smart man!
Your man jay.
You should have tried cocos curry. Lots of military who have gone to Japan love it. It's very popular in Irvine.
I'm walking out the door right now to go get Ramen. Thanks. Now I'm not just home sick but I'm hungry too. LOL
haha! Where are u getting ramen at? That sounds really good right now. Glad to get you craving it
Best seafood crab boil on Convoy and in all of SD Submarine Crab. Jay do a top 5 on Convoy part 2 you won't be dissapointed by this place.

JUST A BUNNN!?? WHAT??!!! Great vid bro. Great picks. My wife and I hit all these up. I can vouch for Shanghai Saloon, their food is SOLID.
Spicy soup along with the dumplings at Shanghai Saloon/Dumpling Inn is so good.
Jaisman for the duck and dumplings.
You have to go to the Yasai !!! Vegan food and amazing!
One of my favorite towns to visit, but I have never eaten any Asian food though.

Sul & Beans is an awesome spot for Korean shaved ice, the green tea and sesame are so good!
Menya is the absolute best! If you’re not strictly sticking to convoy, of course

Their chicken tenders are delicious with their Dense Liege waffles and syrup butter.
