      Do you know why the mortgage crisis happened? At least 1/2 the issue was with consumers over extending themselves. Millions knew they would never be able to make the payments but they bought the homes anyway. Everyone was in on it from the consumer, realtors, mortgage brokers and lenders all the way up to the major and minor investors including thousands of firms. You libbies just like to blame a villain when the real villain is yourself.

    • @4MaBe
      @4MaBe 2 года назад

      @@joshuareturns9907 i do not know the statistics. But 1/2 seems pretty high and put the blame on the only the people.
      I agree that a lot of american got into loans and mortgage that they can't afford. But also the fact they are told that they refinance... and buy more homes and homes..
      In the other hand, you have the banks that used this mortgages and turned into other financial assets: mortgages bond / credit swaps.. CDO.. CDo of a CDo.. etc.. the rating agencies not being able to know if this financial assest are safe enough.. the bets and sellings.. the speculation in the market.. banks making big profits for this.. and you are telling me because of the american people?
      When crash came.. who got saved?.. the banks... and now... looks like some of these characters are also part of government?.. it is ridicoulous..

    • @joshuareturns9907
      @joshuareturns9907 2 года назад +1

      @@4MaBe Yes. Greed is in everyone. At the time, when the bubble was peaking, I was hearing homes were selling for 20-30% than the purchase price within a month. The banks were buying mortgage backed securities in the millions, lenders and appraisers knew this so they helped people with no money and no credit get mortgages as the lender knew the mortgage could be sold immediately.
      This was the creation of the sub prime mortgage backed security, which banks which bought the securities never checked on. Why? Cause they were making millions on interest.
      That drove demand and more and more shady buyers were able to get loans they could not afford.
      So the greed of the buyer , the seller, the realtor, the lender and the banks all contributed.
      Worse to me is the greed of the individual buyer. By the millions they were buying homes they could not afford, and they knew they could not afford. These buyers knew they didn't have the credit nor the income to satisfy the mortgage. The realtors, the sellers, the lenders and appraisers merely preyed upon the greed of the millions of individuals. IMO.
      In the end this was all based on home sales. The banks weren't speculating, they were relying on the prime credit of the buyer in the securities. What they failed to do was check the credit of the buyers. The credit of millions of buyers was less that B+ and sometimes C or less. The success of the mortgage backed security relied on A+ credit, which was sparse throughout the mortgages in the security.
      The securities were loan packages of 1000s of mortgages and all the banks saw was the millions in interest. Which is great, as long as the buyers paid. The collapse came when millions of buyers defaulted. You can read about it. Movies were made about it.

    • @4MaBe
      @4MaBe 2 года назад

      @@joshuareturns9907 agree with what you are saying! The greed of people but also the banks that took advantage of it.. how come they were able to see this? Some people in the banks and the rating agencies did even know what were in those morgages bonds and swaps?... it was because of the outsiders who saw this and bought swaps and realized there was a bubble
      At the end, banks were saved and the individual lost...
      I am basing this in the movie that I saw: the big short and the book michael lewis wrote about it

    Mnuchin's inflection, pitch, tone, timbre, and cadency from my view says "he doesn't give a dam what Cortez Mastro said." : could be Mnuchin believes he has legal culpability with no risk. In another respect; if a common corporate worker was told to do a job using shall as a verb; the shall verb as required will, by compulsion will, by imperative will, mandatorily will, obligatorily will, shall a verb as required will, do the job or be remove by law, fired.
    Why should Mnuchin have any different rights than a regular blue collar worker? Because he is a member of the aristocracy!
    Very rich with insider knowledge that seems to make him snicker. Its persons like that that are screwing up the country. I hope Cortez savers this time to look at his records and have the FBI audit them to find out if Trump is under audit. It's obvious he is a huge part of the economic scandal now and of previous situations. Is the Treasury a significant part of the Trump- Russian money scandal by delay. Let the games begin.

    Did you dump the trash? “Thank you for your question. I assure you that I am also very concerned about the trash and I can tell you it is one of our major priorities. We will be looking very closely at the trash problem and one of the things we are doing is focusing on the underlying reasons for trash buildup. We will be glad to talk to you and your office about it in the future.” But you still haven’t taken out the trash.

    The irony of Secretary Mnuchin claiming to care about homeowners is that he was a major player in forcing owners out of their homes. Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs partner, arrived in Washington with a distinct reputation. Back in 2009, he had corralled a bundle of rich financiers to take over California’s IndyMac bank, shut down amid the 2008 foreclosure crisis by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Bought for $13.9 billion (but only $1.3 billion in actual cash), Mnuchin turned it into a genuine foreclosure machine, in the process sealing his own fate when it came to his future reputation. At the time, he didn’t appear concerned about public approval. Something far more valuable was at stake: the $200 million that, according to Bloomberg News, he raked in personally, thanks to the deal.
    No such luck, of course, for the bank’s ordinary borrowers. During Mnuchin’s reign, IndyMac carried out more than 36,000 foreclosures, tossing former homeowners (including active duty military servicemen and women) onto the street without hesitation or pity by any means necessary. OneWest, the new name that Mnuchin and his billionaire posse coined for Indybank, of which Mnuchin was now CEO and chairman, reportedly rushed delinquent homeowners out of their homes by violating notice and waiting period statutes, illegally backdated key documents, and effectively gamed foreclosure auctions.
    Now, Mnuchin remains bitter and frustrated that he can’t kick the reputation he got in those days. As he told a House Financial Services Committee Congressional hearing this July, “I take great offence to anybody who calls me the foreclosure king.” Such indignation would ring truer if, in May 2017, one of Mnuchin’s banking units, a company called Financial Freedom, hadn’t agreed to pay a more than $89 million settlement to the government for taking unreasonable advantage of thousands of seniors through reverse mortgages which convert equity in a home into a loan. A few months later, in August, a watchdog group, Campaign for Accountability, called upon the Justice Department to investigate Mnuchin for allegedly making false statements under oath to Congress about his actions at OneWest between 2009 and 2015.
    That he can claim to be looking out for those he had previously made money on abusing is apparently part of being in DJT's administration.

And even they are probably laughing at him behind his back! What's interesting is the only times he looked directly at her are, before she actually asked a question and after she'd gotten up and began walking away. Guilty!!

    Masto asks for specific action that he's taken, or is taking, on behalf of homeowners, he says, "We're looking at that." She asks if he specifically has anyone on his staff that has worked on behalf of average people, he says, "Yes, of course... I think we have a great staff." (And doesn't name one person.) This is bizarro world any more. Mnuchin didn't give her one specific detail to support what he was saying. She seemed to notice, when she compared him to the crooks involved with the mortgage debacle, all those wall street, richie rich types talk the same. They're all so used to it, they think it doesn't stick out to normal people, but it does. Anyone watching can tell how full of it Mnuchin is. Just absurd.
