it's mostly because we like seeing moments of the year be recreated with our favorite content creators, good ones, not ones that will get advertisers going "So this is what youtube is". We want a representation of the true RUclips community, not a video directed to advertisers to convince them to advertise on RUclips, this year it was all just a WatchMojo video with no commentary.
@@tsukibus so you want what they did last year? Because for better or worse, that's what they did. Got a whole bunch of creators to work on a video that covered the memes and events of the year. And it was hated. They'll never be able to cover the roughly 100 new memes we get per day, and part of what people hated about last year was all the "old" memes. It's just not physically possible.

@Montana a rewind should be original and celebrating the people who did their best work as creators. This was just a video of statistics with fancy editing. Also, remember how Minecraft controlled RUclips from late June-September, they only mentioned it once and only did by showing us stats. Disappointing and generic, to say the least.

Know instagram has a thing deep in the Ts & Cs that any picture you post can be used by them in marketing because they own it, RUclips probably has a similar thing so no copyright striking.

We were better off alone.
This wasn't even a rewind though. It had everything we wanted I guess but it's just a compilation of existing videos. It's like they couldn't figure out an interesting way to create a real rewind so just saved themselves the time and money and slapped this together.
I mean, the expectations were low, so better they do this than do some big thing that people will hate again

What the hell is this??? Instead of doing an actual production to win the hearts of RUclips’s distressed fans, they make a top 10 list...
RUclips isn't an account with fans though... it's the infrastructure where creators come and build communities, but RUclips isn't the community itself. It's simply way too big of a place to pick favorites and say "this is RUclips" - they did that in the past and everyone hated it (understandably - it was cheesy, and alienated a lot people). At least by going off the numbers, it's an honest and accurate representation of what YT is and it puts the focus on the creators than on RUclips's opinion.
