My theory is that whomever lived here last was planning to renovate the place. They made a temporary living space at the bottom floor, but didn't get far. They might even visit the place from time to time, but there is no active renovation going on.
BTW in France there are numerous places with similar, or even better, condition.

Interesting idea, and possibly likely, too. The strange, up-to-date accommodation in the basement is the factor that makes this different to most derelict property stories

watched this in the early hours of this morning (about 3 a.m.) and found it fascinating as always
Good to see that in common with the lads, whoever is living there is doing so with the same do no damage approach to being in that wonderful abandoned building Great viewing again

What a great explore lads and we are so lucky to have this brought to us by way of your fantastic channel. This one gives me the feeling that it was possibly owned and lived in by someone who was obviously an artist and like many budding artists a little eccentric, who possibly passed away with know body to leave it to, hence the abandonment. I know in many countries when this happens it has to be left for many years before the local authorities or government can step in and take control. As always, loved the level of respect you give to these properties and the protection given. The views and drone footage were amazing. Thanks

Thank you very much, we wanted to keep the eccentric aspect of whoever once inhabited this mansion through the music! Glad you enjoyed

Hi Alistar how you doing mate? Great video as always well edited with perfect background music added to exploring scenes wow this abandoned mansion is massive on the outside plus the inside too very interesting that its a castle and a mansion bet the person who used to own and live in it would of paid millions of pounds to buy a mansion like this, i really like the spiral stairs its very nice indeed, plus its absolutly crazy that they left a priceless artwork photo behind plus all belongings from someone does really look like it was lived in very recently before you explored the mansion luckly its only on one floor, the furniture is really antique plus very cool sure would be amazing for a film set to film in there as all the furniture is in amazing condition to featured in a film or if it doesnt all these bits could go into a art and living museum as it would be so interesting to see anyways i hope your having a good afternoon so far Alistar and keep up the great content on your channel like always as its so enjoyable to watch 👍

It looks like it’s recently been abandoned judging by the plastic “Playmobile” toys. No leaks yet, but the roof might need looking at soon as possible. Great find.

Wow, loved it, very little vandalism and no graffiti. Whoever is living there is doing a good job to keep it preserved if that is the case. It did seem a little staged but on the whole it's probably not the case.

I noticed the sky dish on the roof and have found out that sky was introduced to Europe on the 26th April 1982 so it was inhabited at around that time when they left left who knows and why is a mistory

Well done for not speculating Alistair many urban explorers do speculate and due to their youth and lack of experience talk absolute rubbish about things that I know full well what they are. I wish they would just shut up or ask in the comments. ps how do I send you £20 Quid?

We think it's important not to for places that are as personal as this. It's totally fine if you don't, but we have links for donations in the description of every video

Culturally France is a different way of life than Anglo Western centric countries and they are more practical when it comes to housing. Not being consumerist and loving design the owner would have kept the furniture through generations. They may live without carpets. They may live where they do not need modern latest consumer goods, until a ripe old age and left abandoned after passing away.

The books are French and so's the graffiti but that's not conclusive, there's italian art but neither's that. Alpine will have to do for now.

It’s in the French Alps. I’m not sure if it would count as a Chateau or not but even with lottery money, there is a lot of trouble with buying and restoring old French houses like this, so many restrictions and so expensive. Many think that they can buy and just restore as they want but not only are you usually restricted to what you can use, you are also restricted to getting building help from only an approved list of French contractors from the government who are about at least 3-4x as expensive as what a local tradesman would be and you also have to pay for historically accurate materials, for everything from the stonework to the paint, to the glass in the windows - not much can be modernised. Which is why there’s all these chateaus for “bargain” prices.
(Source: friends of mine bought one and after restoring a few rooms to live in on their own money, they hold artist retreats and stuff to pay for the rest of the restorations, a bit at a time. Anything not able to be saved by the time they can afford it will have to be demolished, again with approved demolition experts, and a fine on top for each part needing demolished.)

@@seraxx1973 thank you very much for reply and helpful information just shows you governments again helping each other out and ripping off Republic this is just another way of making money and stopping historical buildings from being saved it is a shame probably the same in United Kingdom I personally would not encourage the government and fund the government with the money I would just go and build my own thing with money I don't like encouraging great or corruption thank you again for the information
