Released on August 31st 2007, Gimme More is arguably one of Britney’s best lead singles in her career. Being the lead single for her fifth studio album, Blackout, this song showcased Britney’s incredible vocals and also vocalised her experience with paparazzi. Gimme More was released at a very difficult period in Britney’s life and it showed through the songs darker sound. Britney then performed Gimme More at the 2007 VMA’s, only for the performance to be slammed by critics and other celebrities. Other celebrities were blatantly fatphobic, rude and oblivious to Brit’s personal life when they were slamming the performance. Either way, Brit’s performance at the 2007 VMA, even though dubbed her worst, has still cemented itself into pop culture.
This song was truly ahead of its time.
