Remember those sticky tab labels we all used on our files in college/high school? I went through my car manual and bike manual and stuck the tabs on the chapters and wrote the chapter heading on them. Makes it so much easier to find the exact chapter that you need as the tabs stick out the side/top of manual. On ring binder manuals I used the office index dividers to do the same. Yes its ten minutes of your time to do it but its great in the future. Like you with the Bobcat, I've had both the car and bike for eight years now. Also, nail files are great for cleaning contacts , easier than trying to do it with sandpaper. Just make sure you buy your own and don't pinch the wife's !

machine to work on. And yes, a paint job ! C'mon, that's a single day job ! Worth it !

I always find it disappointing when something has to be adjusted by just loosening a bolt, sliding and retightening. If you're not careful, you can lose the position completely or if the surfaces aren't clean, it can be a pain making fine adjustments. Why can't it be a threaded setting or a mechanism that gives you good leverage. It would save so much time and nerves. The quality of the machine should emerge from clever engineering, not from an experienced dude sweating his balls off in the field, trying to get an elephant to play the violin.

It's really that reconfiguring something that simple would boggle the mind of the engineers. I asked an engineer to design a regulator that would regulate the gas flow for a certain carburetor what he came up with was three times the size of the carburetor and couldn't be used he said there was no way anyone could make what I needed. I found exactly what I needed on an old frozen Coke machine that was being thrown out. it was what regulated the syrup flow and was designed to fit perfectly in my application. (the frozen coke machine was manufactured 30 years before my request.) Sometimes you just have to Keep It Simple Stupid to make things work right without complications.

If the contacts for the relays are corroded then so are all the plugs. This is going to likely keep giving you trouble until you clean it all up and seal that cover properly. Power wash and steam clean, take care of some of the leaks, grease her up good, clean up some of the rust, and paint that baby up. You should always have a relay and fuses handy. I always find that if you keep your equipment clean you notice leaks and such faster and can fix them before they get out of hand. You also tend to do the regular maintenance more often and you will find this thing could last you 30+ years easy.

At 19:00 the belt and pulley in the background is the tensioner for the cooling fan. It's an aluminum arm with a steel bushing and bolt in it. They are notorious for seizing up and causing overheating problems. The tensioner will keep enough pressure on the belt to turn the fan at idle, but at high RPM or working the machine hard the belt will slip causing overheating. I take mine apart at every oil change and lube it up with anti seize. I enjoy your videos, especially the church project.

Another thing I’d like to point out, lift the arms all the way up, and put the lock in. Then flip the cab. You can stand beside the machine (if you take the metal tracks off) and work on it. Just changed the chain in a 873, I put it off for weeks because I didn’t want to do it on my head, the manual knows best. Great videos keep it up!

When it comes to Electrical connections get yourself a product called DeOxit.
It's easily the best anti-corrosion fluid there is.
We used it in the Keys on boats, pinball and arcade games Jukeboxes and pretty much everything.
    Especially items that sat dockside.
It comes in two temperature ranges, gold and red.
Spray and drip containers, Qtip and wipes.
I've been using it for a couple of decades and it does an awesome job once you've cleaned all contact surfaces.
Its supposed to last 5 years but I've seen it last far longer.
It's definitely worth the money to at least try it..

I’m watching the videos late and out of order from newer to older so sorry for posting on older video but your pretty much doing the same method most service techs are gong to use as well.
There’s a prolong procedure in each manufacturers manual that gives centering and measuring throws and travels but I’ve been to four factory schools on 3 different manufacturers but in the field (and most of the time in the shop ) we all still time the drives very similar to what your doing. I would suggest cutting a stump or two, or an I beam or a large enough square block(s) you can either slip in behind the machine and lift the machine up on them and then block the front up as well to make it so if when you are in there you don’t accidentally hit a loader/bucket control. This also gives you the ability to lock the loader arms up and out of the way and still run the drives this will come in handy later if you have to actually redo the settings not just for finding neutral but to get it tracking strait after a new motor or pump install or other massive change like a broken linkage or joint (a joint should be pretty close of you count the threads on the old joint and install it appropriately the same threads on new one but sometimes the links and balls in the joints are changed as the manufacturers get new suppliers or change the design. The solenoids aren’t anything that special they are only two types normally open and normally closed. They are heavy duty farm and tractor ones are the same thing even a automotive ones will work if your in a bind but they don’t tend to stand the daily abuse of a skid steer as well and prob only last a few weeks or so. Any farm or construction dealer should have these things or it’s equal value in stock! I can’t believe your Bobcat dealer didn’t have any of them or the seat cushion in stock how many S and T 180s / 200s and others out there in that same configuration you think are in your area? Dozens, Hundreds? I mean they didn’t just make those that way go one or two years, your feelings about your local dealer is prob for a good reason.
When it was ready fire it up that and it threw the fuel pump code I was like yep he moved a bad solenoid, now he got to take that cover back off and get another one. Been there done that !

DeOxit is waayyyy better than dielectric grease! It cleans, preserves and protects. Try it, you'll like it. It's not inexpensive though.
Why not get a new cover and gasket for the relays? It's the moisture that caused the relay issues. Right now the one you have is rusted and leaking, not good.

I’d LOVE a video like that !! What to look for in a used/auction skidsteer. Dates/hours on filters, color of oil, rust vs possible water damage ? When is the cheapest time of the year to buy a skidsteer ?
How do you feel about machine with LOTS of hours, BUT in beautiful condition. At what degree Is it safe to assume idling hours don’t really matter towards the life of the machine in those scenarios ?
Is it smart to avoid newer machines Bc of all the electronics coded only dealers can figure out ?
I’m 25 year old bachelors in nursing science student & looking to buy a used skidsteer $$ for side work & maintenance of my mom’s property, landscape, clear land & snow.
Sick of doing stuff by hand,
I grew up on a s185 & that’s all my current employer uses for residential concrete work is that series
Looking to spend under $10 grand and I have no mechanical background except for what we’ve fixed at work, hydrologic pump, alternator, & packed a cylinder
It’s been a big argument with fiancé Bc she wants a house, which would be a nicer loan if she’ll wait until graduate regardless regardless I have no doubt I could easily break even the first few months with side jobs in terms of owning one. I’ve already turned down a few jobs.......been shopping for a while but I’m not seeing any bobcats affordable
Except Craigslist fake deals & some place in Pennsylvania where ALL their machines the hour meter is broke at 922 some odd number. All their machines same # the meter broke at

dumb question. I know you cannot use grease or oil on the tracks. Same thing with a motorcycle chain. But they found a solution for the motorcycle chain. Lube that does not collect dust. Chain Wax. I know you warm up the chain, spray on the wax, then run it some more. I'm thinking you could jack up the skidsteer and run the tracks to warm up the joints, then spray on the wax. I know. No question. Ok. Here is the question. Do you think the chain wax would work?
