I'll never understand this thought that ppl need to carry the financial burden of their whole family when they start making a lot of money or hit the lotto. I could see if this was some large extended family that cared and were there for each other, but ain't nobody got time for some cousin from two states over that I hadn't heard from for years. Ppl don'y owe you something just because they have money and you have a grandparent in common.

You have to go to the headquarters to receive your money. Also the lottery company wants to reveal the winner so people know its real which in return forces people to buy more.

$52 millions is before tax. Lottery always tells you the amount before tax when you choose lump sum. In 2012,top tax bracket was 35% and she has to pay Georgia tax which was 6%, so its about 30 millions after all the tax. I'm not sure if she has to pay for unearned income medicare contribution tax which is 3.8% or not. If yes, she received a little less than 30 mills

Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, and Ohio are the only states that allow you to remain anonymous, however Additional states may allow a trust to be set up and the lottery winnings received in the name of the trust. Thus, you could remain anonymous :)

Doesn't matter, if someone is determined to get that money from either one of them, they'll find a way to get it. This world is full of smart criminals. On the other hand if their relationship is strong, the loot SHOULD make it stronger.

Sadly... This is family for me. When the call came in everyone was overjoyed not of the prospect of "we" are rich but more so someone we know "family" hit the big one. It has been over a year. We have not heard from "family"... "family" changed their number, "family" has a new address, "family" has forgotten about "family"... My only hope and prayer is that You and your Mom have made your dad comfortable during his illness. Peace be with you.

I also think, that the safety of the winners is more importent than the promotion for the lottery. In all countries I know lottery, the winners are kept secret, for their safety.

It isn't a promotion trick. Where do you live? You said Brazil?
I must tell you that laws in the U.S. are different that those in Brazil. If you don't want to go public in these states that REQUIRE you to go public, then you can choose not to, it's just you cannot claim the prize. It isn't a trick, get that through your head. Some states REQUIRE it to ensure the the lottery is actually legit by showing real people winning. It goes against no law here.
You don't win anything until you claim.

There was a biggest texas lotto in 2001;which was entertained on the local news for a few weeks. the news channels were showing people lined up to buy lottery tickets at gas stations or stores. any time i searched to see any information about that ticket, there was none, not even on the news paper films in libraries, not for that amount of jackpot. i think all the information about that ticket also has been deleted. only once i pulled a website as "biggest texas lotto.com";which was errored.

  • @InvaderShift
    @InvaderShift 12 лет назад +2

Well, if you live in a state that requires you to show up personally to claim publicly, you won't be able to claim. Done.
Some states allow you to remain anonymous, some states will allow you to set up trusts to claim for you, but there are some states, I believe like Georgia, where you CANNOT do either. You must publicly claim the prize. It isn't against privacy law either. You have a choice not to claim, therefore not be publicized.
    You either claim, or don't.

  • @InvaderShift

  • @InvaderShift

The lottery officials of each state clearly state their policies.
The back states: All official MegaMillion tickets purchased from the {State} Lottery Co. are governed by applicable state law, and rules and regulations of the {State} Lottery. By submitting the payslip for processing, the player agrees to abide by the {State} Lottery Rules and Regulations.
What are one of those regulations of some of the states? Stated on lotto corporations websites, the player must come out publicly.

thats what im saying dont you get like only half when you take the lump sum? maybe a little more? id rather get paid out over 20 years that way say you screw up and make some bad impulsive financial decisions the first year, at you get 19 more times to get it right
