  • Market Masters | Taxes in the equity market should be looked holistically (STT+Capital Gains), says Samir Arora Helios Capital as he backs for no change in the tax regime. He tells Prashant Nair, Reema Tendulkar and Nigel D'Souza that they have trimmed positions in stocks where valuations had reached 70-80 P/E.

    We Are in Unchartered Financial Waters! every day we encounter challenges that have become the new standard. Although we previously perceived it as a crisis, we now acknowledge it as the new normal and must adapt accordingly. Given the current economic difficulties that the country is experiencing in 2024, how can we enhance our earnings during this period of adjustment? I cannot let my $680,000 savings vanish after putting in so much effort to accumulate them.

      Keeping some gold is usually a wise decision. You would be better off keeping away from equities for a bit or, even better, seeking advice from an expert given the current market conditions and everything that is at risk with the current economy.

      You have a very valid point, I started investing on my own and for a long time, the market was really ripping me off. I decided to hire a CFA, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 9%. I thought it was a fluke until it happened two years in a row, and so I’ve been sticking to investing via an analyst.

      Could you possibly recommend a CFA you've consulted with?

      My CFA ’ANGELA LYNN SCHILLING’ , a renowned figure in her line of work. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market.

      Thank you for saving me hours of back and forth investigation into the markets. I simply copied and pasted her full name into my browser, and her website came up first in search results. She looks flawless.

    Most cruel decision was to introduce tax on equity. People are taking risk with hard earned money and small investors using SIP for fighting inflation are punished with LTCG

    He is expecting that Indian government should reduce tax on FII making profits in India. Instead he should say that FII should get input tax credit in their home country. FIIs will return with good booties even if the tax structure remains the same

    Foreigner investors receives tax offset in their home country for the tax paid in India under the double taxation agreement. Most of the developed nations (I.e. US, Europe, Canada, Australia, etc) have LTCG minimum 20% and STCG as per normal income tax slab which sometime goes upto 40% depending on your capital gain Hence, it doesn’t make any difference for FPI as long as the LTCG does not go above 20%. For example, if a foreign investor makes 10cr short term capital gain in India, then he or she will be paying 1.5cr (15%) STCG in india and the remainder 2.5cr in home country thus completing 4cr (40%) tax.

      They get health care education travel water etc for free in return of that. What does the taxpayer of india get in return for free??? Absolutely nothing. Thats the biggest difference. In india its tax terrorism.

    • @vishalshah1311
      @vishalshah1311 Месяц назад

      What his argument was that there are individual foreign investors who have invested in these FPI / FIIs. Like a Mutual Fund investor in India. So if FII / FPI themselves have paid tax on their gains, how would they calculate and provide tax paid certificate to that individual investor? Tax was not paid by the Individual Investor, but by FPI / FII itself. It becomes a regulatory hassle for them from the perspective of Individual Investor.
      Some DTAAs has provisions that if you earn capital gains (from less than 10% of the holding in a particular company), then those gains will be taxed only in the country of your residence.

    He is just worried about his 2% commission. Most of fund managers will never have problem with taxation in option trading because if it’s higher then it is good for them. If people shift from option trading to mutual funds then these funds manager will get their 2% . Even if they underperform nifty still they get their 2% which is wrong . If they are not able to beat Nifty return why are they charging 2% . No news channel anchor ask this important question . Instead they are asking about option to someone who never do trading. Useless anchors
