Beethoven's ninth is the classical piece that mostly gets associated with the European's spirit. I, however, believe that Górecki's 3rd deserves to be known as the Europe's musical theme. For it captures two of the most European's historical sorrows. Sorrow for Motherhood, whether it's Mary mother of Jesus or a simple mother who lost her child during a war. The Icon of Madonna and Motherhood, despite its secular humanist twist in the recent centuries, stemmed from Mary and Christianity which is the historical religion and tradition of Europe. Sorrow for the World Wide II which perished millions of Europeans. All composed in a symphony which despite being a global practiced form these days, is one of richest legacies that European composers left behind. It is no surprise that this piece was so well received and sold like rock records. It spoke to Europe. It is Europe's Sorrow, Europe's story and Europe's musical theme.
