the only negative aspect i can see is, that you would have no internet at all, without starlink...
I had internet with my mobile hotspot
@@PacificPinesRanchDumbest possible response

There’s no comparison between hotspots and Starlink for long term use
Internet is ridiculously high in the US. And everytime you turn around its going up.
Yes it's pretty pricey! :)
Starlink is half the price in Europe. It is because we do not have the big grift were companies decide the politics.
I live on a remote island 50km from the nearest city. Here I have fiber internet because the government is sponsoring rural internet where it is less profitable or at a loss.
Fiber costs 60$, roughly the same as Starlink here, but with better performance.
Thanks for the video. As a fellow Oregon with a similar tree situation, I wanted to ask have you experienced any service outages at all or just variable speeds? I'm looking to replace my Xfinity internet which seems to go down like clockwork several times a week. I work from home so I need to get something more reliable ASAP. Thanks!
The internet does go out for a minute or two here and there. Usually at night more often than in the day. Hope that helps! :)
I have the same issue with Xfinity they are clueless on how to resolve the dropped issue Xfinity sucks
Thank you thank you for your thorough review. I searched all over for an understandable explanation and you nailed it! Thank you,
So glad to hear that! Thanks!! :)
Newer generation dishes make a difference in speeds especially in upload speed.
your worst test is 4 times the speed of my best speed out in the sticks. definitely sold me on it, will be ordering it next week
I hope it works well for you! It's definitely a game changer for remote internet access. :)
@@PacificPinesRanch it has been working perfectly. My worst test so far has been 20 down, 6 up. Before Starlink I was always between 2-3 down .xx up. I can finally play games with my friends online, play videos above 240p without buffering, or even just use my cell phone for FaceTime. This was seriously life changing. I live where there is no cell service or high speed internet.
@@Stronghand52so excited to see this comment. We just ordered ours today! Our current download speed is 2-6! How long did it take to receive yours?
@@Tommy.voodoo I order Oct 27th and it arrived November 9th. It was delayed a week supposedly
@@Stronghand52 that’s not bad! We are excited to try it out
We live in a very rural area. Our current internet is terrible, so Starlink is definitely an option.
It's great for that! :)
Affirmative on the customer service point. Our StarLink went down and we where not back online for until 48 days later. StarLink had to replace the whole kit to get us back online.
Wow that's crazy!! Thx for sharing your experience
It will probably be a long time before prices drop, if they ever drop in the US. Reason why it's so expensive is because they know people will pay for it. It's as simple as that. There just isn't enough competition to drive the price down. This is also why it's so much cheaper in Europe. For starts Europe has a very condensed population. This means that basically anywhere you go you have fiber internet. That's why Starlink offers it's services for reduced rates over there, they essentially have to try and compete with fiber.
I'm hoping prices come down, I would love to set my mom who lives off the grid with solid internet, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon. It's also sad that they have increased prices. I feel that's kinda scummy of them. Almost like drug dealers. They gave you a taste of good internet off the grid for an okay price. Once they got you hooked you, they jacked the price up, and reduced the speeds.
For sure! Definitely some solid points you made :)
You’re rambling without any knowledge about Starlink cost. SpaceX spends an approximate cost of $1000 to manufacture each satellite dish, yet they offer these dishes for $500, resulting in a 50% loss per satellite sold. This is a key reason why the monthly pricing for Starlink internet service is around $120, which is relatively competitive compared to other satellite internet providers, some of whom charge as much as $150 per month. SpaceX has also told about their intention to lower internet subscription costs as they reduce the satellite dish manufacturing expenses and expand their user base.
Inflation is higher in Europe and has been for years. The price difference doesn't make sense.
Hopefully Amazon side is enough competition in the next few years.
Lol supply and demand is scummy?
Starlink is a Godsend for many people yes it’s not cheap especially with the equipment purchase but it’s still better than the alternative the connection will only get better going forward
I'm definitely thankful for it considering the alternatives!
I might have missed it but does the Residental package come with WiFi?
Each package provides internet via satellite
I have one in the Philippines. It is reliable unless we have a heavy rain and lightning. I love the system.
Wow that's great! Cool to know it works there too
Starlink has no
CONS .
We live out in nowhere and we have a 60 foot tower we use for everything . We put Starlink on the top and it’s fine.
Like I said no cons . If you have cons you’re not trying to fix it and have it up wrong .
Everyone doesn’t have access to a 60 foot tower if that was the case then you would probably find very little negative feedback about the service the videos I’ve watch people honestly do the best they can what they have to work with and still either have no issues or have some or lots of issues so I’ll say this Starlink isn’t for everyone
Ugh... those upload speeds are pretty awful. We are thinking that getting Starlink will help us with our similar off-grid property and content creation, but with speeds like that I think I'll still have to be at a coffee shop or having a pint fur uploads. How long does it take for you to upload a video with those speeds?
I think once we put it on the roof it will work better... hopefully. It depends on the file size but generally a 30 min video in 1080 takes about 45min.
@@PacificPinesRanch Oh, that's not too bad then. Thank you!
Very nice video, I'm curious if you've ever seen how Starlink would compare with a MIMO LPDA or/and Yagi antennas setup for a 4G unlimited plan. Well since I'm not living in the US (I'm French) I don't know if there are good unlimited 4G plan there, but here in France it is a good very competitive option, and for upload specifically it's really great, you can easily get more than 30mb/s and without spending so much for the equipment.
Thx so much!! I've never tried that option. The only other option I've tested out is C band internet through Nomad which is a really great alternative option. We've used it quite a bit while traveling this past year.
Are the speeds good enough to work from home with a vpn?
I guess it depends what you're doing. I experience some cuts in the service usually at night, and my upload speeds are pretty slow.
We were getting an average of 50 download. Sometimes higher and sometimes lower but that was the average.
Wow interesting… thx for sharing
Can I pay in bull up front? I don’t want to worry about a monthly bill while I’m out homesteading. Can I do like 3k and pay for 10 years?
I don't think so, but that's something you would have to check and see.
Current service is $120/month, so 10 years would be $14,400. Highly unlikely that they would do that or give you a "multi-year" price break because that locks them in at that price for 10 years. They want to be able to go up on you...
Load up a debt card and setup payment. If you dont want to bother keeping a bank account, try a credit card that supports crypto. I have, but have not used my Litecoin block card. Its a regular visa you can load with any of the top 4 cryptos(at the time I signed up). You could never pay 10 years in advance, no acounting dept would allow it...inflation ya know :)
Just set up autopay onto another card
the prices may honestly have to do with the variable laws worldwide, in the US theres not as many restrictions on pricing and we have yet to make internet a utility
Interesting! Thx for your comment :)
What you are saying is correct but hardly worthy of a Starlink 'scam'. We have had our gen.2 for 3 yrs and are very satisfied - it is a fixed location and speeds have not slowed over time. 'Hot Spots' are a joke as you know and in our case the only alternative is DSL - really a joke! We are in a country setting also with lots of trees but carefully located the antenna so as to avoid the trees.
We pay 112 for lousy service, they say it’s 5 g but that’s a lot of crock
Dang sorry to hear that :-/
Hi
Interesting point you raise there about the international costs. I suspect it could be for two reasons. The first is that Europe is generally more compact than America. So l guess they would need less satellites to cover a place like France, whereas they would need significantly more for the US. Secondly issues such as population density may be an issue, the more people in one area mean the costs per head go down, hence it is possible to offer them such prices. Lastly it could be just that in France there is more competiion and options. So they cannot price themselves out of the market, then again it could be an introductory price, meaning in the future it will rise. It could also be that in the US the average customer is much wealthier so the price will not be the same. Anyway l am just guessing l do not know for a fact.
Thank you for your comment! You make some good points :)
No, US customers are just suckers. They pay more for every thing.
We ate the same in the UK £75 standard service ,was £90 but was reduced last year after beta program stopped .I purchased starlink after your video on starlink thankyou have loved the service and your videos 😊😊❤

Due to us Laws hence why the price is that way.
Just a little confusing hearing the word cons and then having an ad pop up.

Honestly the only other internet we have in our area sucks horribly we pay 170 for nothing and half the time it's down so this no matter is a win win and even at 130 we have 40 dollar

im paying $4 a month for internet (cable), i don't see a reason why anyone would switch unless their only option is satellite coverage.
The small amount of people who needs this doesn't justify a bazillion of satellites floating around and rockets polluting to launch them.
How about bazillions of people and equipment supporting the ground based infrastructure? Im sorry, you said 4$ a month for internet, never mind.

For goodness sakes, stay away from this company. If your service goes down, you may be in for the most frustrating, incompetent, ridiculous customer service possible. I will be contacting the Texas attorney general to get my equipment back. Starink has no right to keep my equipment. I paid $649 for that equipment. It isn't theirs to keep.
Isn't this case too small for the texas attorney general?
I'm sorry to hear that!! That's frustrating.
