No, seriously though, I love what you're doing here mate and I'm going to spend a few hours in my basement working on this groove right now. Appreciate the solid lesson, especially tying the evolution from the double into hip-hop and into Drum N Bass.
41 years old and I just started playing drums. I've been able to get the amen groove pretty close off the jump because I have been listening to drum and bass since I was a kid. I'm still working on my time and technical skills to get better results and ability to improv and play with the pattern
Yes!! So glad to hear this opinion coming from a metal drummer! Have listened to metal for 30+ years, DnB only the past 15 or so, but I love the complexity of both drumming styles. In fact, I'm convinced that Dave Lombardo would have a hell of a second (third, fourth?) career as a DnB drummer!!
By far the best DnB dumming tutorial video I've seen. Thank you for being so clear and concise. This video is very well focused, and it touches on each important aspect of keeping that nice DnB sound. I love how you explained your set-up! Not enough people do that.

Mad respect! While I love producers who design their drums via synth, there is certainly a difference between the producers who manipulate audio and the producers who play the kit, record it, throw it in a sampler and process their own sounds. The live drumming creates a better sound, especially in loud systems.
I love how this sounds ebsolutely exhausted from the start. I feel you mate. I've done gigs and had prior engaments that I had to do absolutely super hungover. Hope you're doing okay. peace
I usually take a whole 12 oz bot of liquid ket and cooked it up in a mason jar for it to crystalize then dumped out and scraped the bottom railed 4 lines just before the hole and it slowed my 176 bpm drum patterns long enough to fix all of them in a smaller amount of time
At 4.57 you talk about a rim shot, but I am guessing that you meant a rim click. Small difference, but for people who just started drumming, correct terminology is quite important. Apart from that, these lessons look great. Keep it up.

Thank you, mate, for having shared your knowledge about the matter and congratulations for your work! And if I'm not saying stupid things, don't you believe that jungle/drum'n bass drumming sounds particularly British, although we all do recognize the universal aspect of Music as a language? As if all those terms of the American culture of the stuff (hip-hop, funk etc) had just suddenly started to speak more English than other language, like in the case of Rock after Beatles, Led, Floyd, Purple.
i dont know if this is abiut his accent or he really have something to say but anyways you can make some quotes out of his words "our job as a drummer is to make people move" "with this simple setup we can use our imagination to do imagine if things" great stuff great guy keep it comming;)

Hi everyone. I'm looking to create drum covers of a few D&B tracks for my so live and street drumming sets, as well as a few videos. I don't know where to find any drumless tracks online though! Can anyone point me to a good site that has loads of D&B tracks without the drum parts? I'm not skilled in the production side of things so find it tricky to create my own. Cheers!
Most of the drum and bass breaks if not all came from the late 60's to late 70's so anyone really wanting to know how these breaks were created should really check out people like Clyde Stubblefield and Bernard Purdie, it was people like these who made the these original percussion breaks which later everyone sampled for early hiphop and then later drum and bass, drum and bass just speeded everything up, no disrepect to todays drummers but seriously they do not compare to the original masters

It's a pretty common misconception that the actual drum makes a difference. It's mainly down to the recording, with eq and compression ect, and good heads and tuning.

Most music has always been garbage. Don't let those radio stations only playing the good songs from back in the day fool you into believing otherwise. Selective memory can be very embarrassing.
You're a fool. Music is always growing and incorporates the old and original in new and experimental ways. You can learn to play like this and fuse it into something new.. It all depends on your creativity.
When ppl say "so *insert decade*" they usually do so disparagingly, like it's dated or we should be passed it by now. If the music you value is based on what's currently trending don't expect anyone to take you seriously.

As a metal drummer of 32 years I really recommend playing drum and bass in your practice time, it opens up another world of drumming you can use .

How does he get the double kick so fast without using the heel/toe method?
He does use it but so fluent you can barely see
Vladimir Poutine practice. It's not too hard
DanKop I practice about 3 hours a day, don't act like his double kick (without heel/toe) isn't impressive.
Vladimir Poutine I'm not unimpressed, I'm not exactly amazed either. It's an easy technique to do.
Vladimir Poutine he is just playing fast. Not tricks, just practice.
