For a ouija board, why would you touch anything anyway, if it's all spirits? If spirits can throw chairs across the room, they can interact with the board directly lmao
From my understanding, it's much more common for demons to function/manifest in humans rather than move a stand alone object like a chair. My theory is that it takes a different level of power or demonic ability/environment to move a stand alone object. As an illustration: it's possible for a human to shoot a basketball into a hoop 15 yards away but it's rare. It might take the correct wind current, position on a hill or the person needs to have a lot of practice in that skill.
...simply because..., if the Ouija board moved by itself...that would scare the curious away far too soon...the board is just an initial entry meant to suck them into occultism...that is the case at the very first.. however I have known dozens of ex-Ouija enthusiasts, what finally broke the habit for most of them, was when they claim the board began move by itself... Other's, more secular minded, are actually stunned by this new reality...A very common Olde Truth that was entirely denied them by our current agnostic education...this discovery inspires them to decide to dig in deeper toward true Devil worship...meanwhile the full gamut of historical human experience, and all traditional world religions consistently acknowledge these intelligent, but malevolent entities do exist...and are to be avoided like spiritual vermin... as Shakespeare so succinctly stated..."There are more things on heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”...
This is one of those things that should be so obvious but for some reason kind of mind blowing when you think about it. Very true and important to know/remember.

Michael's radio story is really amazing, it really made me think! How likely it is that something like that would happen... The fact that a broken radio would suddenly turn itself on, play the right station, with the right romantic music, at the right time just after his fiancée's father died, a very touchy moment for both of them, moreover, not only a radio but! something with a high emotional value directly connected to his father! and after that moment, the radio would never work again... if Michael had been alone, and this would have happened, the story would have been hard to believe, but then there was his fiancée, another witness... in order of probabilities such an event is really difficult to happen, almost impossible... and not only that... the fact that it happened to Michael, a committed skeptic, with varied scientific knowledge, also owner of a magazine, and not just any magazine, a magazine for skeptics, a person who also has a past related to faith, who has spent the last decades talking about it from a naturalistic point of view, which gives him enough credibility to talk about it... That's really so unlikely to happen.... that it's surprising! if I hadn't seen Michael talk to the camera about it I wouldn't have believed it... all that makes me think... maybe if this had happened to a common citizen, maybe this would be finished differently, possibly in an anecdote, a legend among the friends of the bar, some story of the hallway, we would be branded as liars even if this had happened to a person who is not a scientist or with recognition, possibly very few would be believed with doubts... we would argue that he had a hallucination, that it was an effect Mandela... it was all imagination and that it was all in his head, even that he is lying to us to become popular, controversial or to draw attention to himself. But... yes, we believe Michael, because well... he is Michael. That's what makes testimonies so difficult, to believe or not to believe .... but certainly, that story is surprising! men...
@@karlazeen Obviously it's not the best argument, not that I expect anyone to decide on that basis alone, but the context of Michael's life gives his story a little more attention than other stories, now, whether we believe him or not, that's up to us.
I would love to get in on that gig. How much money can you extract from the victim is my first concern. This was lovely, tho I sadly missed the beginning (I'll catch up). Prof Shermer used to make me so cross, as I questioned his motives, being a 'believer' in many of the things he (perhaps religiously) expends so much effort debunking. He is now seems like the agreeable cousin I disagree with on details of reality but agree with on methods of exploration. I'm not familiar with your other guest, but I think I lean in the direction of his very competently argued position, I will, no doubt, be familiarising myself with his work soon. Much gratitude to you for this one, I was heartened greatly by it.
@J wCopied from Wikipedia: Los Angeles Times reviewer Noel Murray called the film "hooey".[11] According to skeptical investigator Kenny Biddle, the film has been characterized as a pseudo-documentary, "meaning it is filmed in a documentary style but doesn’t portray real events".[12]
whenever Billy is given a non-Christian example that fulfils criteria he accepts, his response begins with ‘Ok..putting on my Christian hat..’ and proceeds to explain one mystery by referring to another. For example, when asked about the relatively higher number of demonic occurrences in other cultures, he says its because they are ‘outside the Christian realm and don’t have that protection’. Or he doesn’t answer it at all (e.g. Sathya Sai Baba)
Good discussion. I would like to ask Shermer: when does it become more reasonable to believe the supernatural over the natural? To use an extreme example, you saw someone shot to death, and buried for years, then he dropped by your house one day. Is it *reasonable* to say, "he must have just fallen asleep, survived for a while underground, then dug himself out"?
It’s probably most reasonable to think that that person’s death was faked or or they were cloned until they could prove to you the person you’re talking to really is the exact person that was killed. To assume resurrection before ruling those out would be a big leap.
I 100% agree with Shermer about the free speech issue and big props for writing a book calling out the cancel culture. However with his argument about these unexplained anomalies, where he says no one knows for sure and some might jump the line and say that's paranormal or supernatural and he's willing to just say I don't know and I'll wait till we know for sure.I think that's closing himself off to the possibility. Because by the very definition of supernatural or paranormal, if it exist, your not going to be able to explain it with normal or natural explanations. So if the supernatural exists and your waiting for a natural or material explanation, you are setting a standard for evidence that you will never get. I haven't watched the whole thing yet. I paused after the hell house story to write this. But I hope they ask him what would be acceptable as evidence for him. If a government worker and hospital staff (people we generally trust to safeguard kids and remove them from bad parents if necessary) can't be trusted as eye whiteness what does it take? If Shermer himself observed a person walking up a wall in a hospital room, would he say that he was mis remembering or conflating his memory with a movie? And if his own observation of an event like that wouldn't be good enough then I think that he really is closed off to the idea and not really a sceptic at all.

Wow, I think I just became a better skeptic listening to Michael. I loved his point regarding the resurrection. I’ve never quite heard it out the way he did though. There is definitely evidence for the resurrection, yes, but there is simply no evidence which reaches to the level of the claim.
That sounds like a very contradictory statement. Your pass will be evidence and then it doesn’t reach the level of a claim. Currently with all the historical information that we have which is very little in the first century the resurrection seem like a most likely account.
The Gospels were written by Jesus's Disciples / Apostles (eye witnesses, men who lived and traveled exclusively with Jesus for the 3 years of His ministry before His crucifiction, death, and Resurrection OR those who knew these people personally) beginning approx. 20 to 50 years after Jesus's Death and Resurrection. In those first years after, the first-person witnesses to His Ressurection ( Jesus's mother Mary, the Disciples and Mary Magdalene as well as OVER 500 others who saw, touched, and spoke with Jesus BODILY ) and those who knew the first hand witnesses, spread the Gospel by speaking to people personally. As they all aged and started dying off, they began recording those historical events. We have over 5,200 documents of the Gospels ( the Books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John ) or portions of the Gospels written in Greek ( the common trade language of Jesus's time, of which He and His disciples spoke and wrote, and there is evidence Jesus and others could speak and write Hebrew or Aramaic ). The Gospel accounts are the largest number of historical documents for ANYTHING in antiquity. They were later directly translated to English from the original Greek -into our current New Testament- and from English, they were translated to World Languages.
Interesting that this came out right after Cameron Bertuzzi's (Capturing Christianity's) interview with Fr. Lampert. I recommend any sceptic to have a watch of that interview. Peace.
That interview was hilarious- "I saw someone pick up an office-chair with ONE ARM... and ONLY possesion by a demon could be the cause of such a display of supernatural strength!!" Notice how all the dramatic stuff the priest mentioned- "levitation", "people climbing walls", etc, was what he's HEARD, but when asked about what he'd SEEN, it was all explicable, non-supernatural stuff like "picking up office-chairs" and "writhing on the ground"? Interesting to hear him claim that exorcism "isn't magic", though- He literally claims that he reads out specific phrases (ie "magical spells"), and carries out specific actions, with objects like crucifixes, bible, rosary, etc, (ie "magical rituals") which he believes will have a supernatural effect ("driving out demons")- That perfectly fits the most basic, textbook definition of magic- Speaking certain words, and/or doing certain rituals, with the belief it will effect the real world, via supernatural mechanisms. If you swapped the latin, for Sumerian, and swapped the "the power of Christ compells you!!" for "the power of Baal compells you", and switched the rosary for some OTHER religion's prayer-beads in those rituals, I wonder if he'd claim THAT "wasn't magic"? Or, does he think that whether it's an attempt at "magic" or not, depends on which specific magical, invisible occult entity you're invoking? "It's not occultism/magic if you invoke MY god.... It's only occultism/magic, if you invoke SOMEONE ELSE'S god!!!!" It's amazing how the people who are the most paranoid about "occultism", can't recognize REAL, LITERAL occultism, when it's right in front of them... or even when THEY are ones practicing occultism...

What Hallowell isn't appreciating here is that there's what we could call _Anecdotal Natural Selection_ at work when he speaks of compelling accounts (memes) about spooky Ouija Board experiences. I've also used a Ouija Board as a teenager & would you believe... _nothing interesting happened!_ If 99.9% of stories are just as boring as mine is there much chance it's going to be repeated? _Nope!_ Professor Richard Feynman has a similar account to this. He'd talk about a bad feeling he had about his mum for no discernable reason but it worried him enough to phone he up to see if she was okay &... she was fine! Who's going to recount a story as boring as that one? No one, so it doesn't get repeated to counter balance all the far more extraordinary stories in the memosphere!
The good spirits do something ~similar, but they call it "puddle jumping". Not like possession, but more an influence. They can feel and see like the person or animal and influence thoughts and movements. I guess maybe a light version of possession. "Bad" spirits use the same mechanism, but they are not constraining themselves to rules or regulations. They pay a high price for doing this sort of thing when it is not approved for a reason. The "bad" ones are unredeemable - they say.
I absolutely love when people say "from a Christian perspective" because it is an automatic admission that it is their subjective opinion and that it is not in fact objective truth. No one cares about your opinion. If you have no facts, you have no place in the conversation.
@James Thompson Only as labels we put on things we like or dislike; if you mean a supernatural intelligence that interacts with the natural world, then no.
Yeah....we are getting the nuts and bolts down. It'll take a bit longer to figure out more abstract concepts such as the supernatural. So landing a tin can on another rock is an indication that we're beyond "demons" etc? The other side of the coin is that it's before it.
Since exorcism is rarely discussed I really wanted to watch this debate, but nothing came out of it... It was like two persons meeting to find out what treatment is the best for a specific illness and one part just says that illness doesn't exist! Of course there won't be a fruitful talk? It's like discussing a certain smell with someone who can' t smell anything. How do you convince that person that it really is a strong smell present? Or even that smells exist? I believe all genuinelly christians some time in their lives need a wise and experienced priest/pastor to ask for guidence and help in possibly occult matters. How can we talk about this openly without inviting to an unhealthy curiousness for the occult? If satan doesn't exist and causes evil ,why did Jesus have to die? To save us from whom/what?
Satan exists, but Jesus died to save us from ourselves. Our hearts are deceitfully wicked above everything else. Yes Jesus did also die to destroy the spiritual powers that hold people captive, but we are very responsible for our sins. There is no "the devil made me do it" kind of teaching in the Bible. Instead the Bible says "All have sinned and fallen short of God's glorious standard."

Michael Shermer admits the walking up a wall backwards would have to be supernatural. So that convinces him. He just refuses to believe that it happened even if he saw it happen.

The question is flawed. Not everyone who might believe in demons necessarily believe in possession or exorcism. Also, can we all just be honest here and admit this is nonsense that only exists in art and literature? Geeeez.
When Satan appeared to Jesus in the desert he did not try to spook him or even physically harm him. Satan tried to make Jesus doubt what the Father had just spoken over him. "This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased". Immediately after this Jesus is taken into the wilderness and Satan directly attacks what the Father said was true. Satan repeatedly says to Jesus "If you are the Son of God". This is also what Satan did to Adam and Eve. He did not try to scare them, he deceived them by tempting them to doubt God's word. This is Satan's main area of attack, his second area of attack being our attitudes and how we treat people. Jump scares are not in the Bible.
So you say. Were you there? Who was taking notes. Try this. Go outside on your own and say something to a tree, then go inside and ask a person to write what you said to the tree. You will discover that you need a note-taker to record these solo events. Oops, if they are solo, there is nobody else to write. Now look at the wholly fable and you will see heaps of these claims where the invisible (non-existent) narrator makes comments that are speculation.
Acts 19:13-16 The seven sons of Sceva attempted to cast out a demon, the demon answered them by asking "I know Jesus and I know Paul, but who are you?" He then leaped on them (1 against 7) and they fled naked and badly injured. Scary enough?

To be honest, given the amount of abuse that the victims of mental illness have gone through over the centuries, anyone positing that demons are responsible is guilty of a profound moral lapse.
Incorrect. They have been abused precisely because people have not believed it is down to demonic activity. Instead they have been tortured, lobotomised, electrocuted and so on. When they could have had an exorcism or whatever other spiritual remedies would be appropriate. Nowadays they get similar treatment, but just through vile psycho-pharma drugs that are very harmful, and will permanently damage or at least change the brain so that those people will never properly recover.

I think the point about miracles is that it is not a systematic effect or one that is consistently repeated by natural laws. Instead, it is the (temporary) suspension of natural law that is considered a miracle. Since continuous suspension of natural law would result in a completely different reality from life as we know it, and that a continuous suspension would be a systematic effect its own right, the occurrence of a miracle must by definition be a non-systematic rare occurrence. As such, the probability of encountering a miracle event by random chance should be ridiculously small.
Here is how the "Extraordinary claims requires extraordinary evidence" sounds to the rest of us. Stupid. It sounds stupid. The reason I don't require evidence for the bike ride is either A) I don't care, B) I am too distracted by the claim of the UFO, or C) both. It has nothing to do with it being "mundane". The truth is claims require evidence, the claim of the claim being "extraordinary" also requires evidence and is only used to push the bar so high that you can ignore the claim. Using the bicycle as my example, let me tell you how this dumb argument sounds to everyone else. Person A) Hi mate, how are you? I went on a bike ride today. Person B) Did you? I lack belief that you went on a bike ride. A) You don't believe me? B) No, I didn't say that. I just lack belief that you did. A) Well I am still in all my gear. B) that isn't evidence you cycled, that you might have just decided to wear them. A) Well, my Bike is over there. B) That just proves you know where Bikes are kept, or borrowed a bike. It isn't proof you cycled. A) I am still sweating, I have my helmet here. What more can I show you? B) you might have done some other kind of exercise. It doesn't prove you rode here. A) What can I possibly do to prove it to you? B) If you have really cycled here, you would know. Bike riders claims require bike rider evidence. See how stupid it sounds.
No one ever should. The Bible never instructs anyone to, and with very good reason. Satan is not a human being. Satan was in the immediate presence of God and is a spiritual being himself. This means there is no doubt in Satan about whether God exists or whether the spiritual world exists. He is apart of that world. Satan also actively worked to destroy Jesus and the gospel from ever happening. He has full knowledge of who Jesus is and what the gospel message is and not only rejects it but activity works against trying to turn all people he can from it. There is no further revelation Satan can have that would bring him to repentance, he has seen it unveiled. This is true blaspheme of the Holy Spirit.

Christians don't have to debate with skeptics like Michael if they know something is true. They can just tell people it is true. We don't have to be 'playing with skeptics'. With some of these people you can probably say as many words as you can but they still will not believe. Words are not what will persuade though - seeing/experiencing the actual reality might, although they might still believe it is a trick of some kind. From my understanding, it's much more common for demons to function/manifest in humans rather than move a stand alone object like a chair. My theory is that it takes a different level of power or demonic ability/environment to move a stand alone object.
That's what makes testimonies so difficult, to believe or not to believe .... but certainly, that story is surprising! men...
"But... yes, we believe Michael, because well... he is Michael."
That has to be some of the worst reasoning I've ever heard for accepting a claim.

Man i appreciate and enjoy Mike Shermer but dude goes on and on if you let him lol
Did you witness this happen?
It’s probably most reasonable to think that that person’s death was faked or or they were cloned until they could prove to you the person you’re talking to really is the exact person that was killed. To assume resurrection before ruling those out would be a big leap.
Short answer: No, much like gods, it lacks strong evidence and there are better explanations.
So in short, they could be, or they might not be.
Thank me later.
I know this may not be persuasive to you, Michael, but let me just change the whole subject and give a Christian sermon.

The Gospels were written by Jesus's Disciples / Apostles
(eye witnesses, men who lived and traveled exclusively with Jesus for the 3 years of His ministry before His crucifiction, death, and Resurrection OR those who knew these people personally) beginning approx.

Anecdote isn’t data
Interesting that this came out right after Cameron Bertuzzi's (Capturing Christianity's) interview with Fr. Lampert. I recommend any sceptic to have a watch of that interview. Peace.
Not doubt a juicy interview!
Why do you recommend any skeptic to watch it?
That interview was hilarious- "I saw someone pick up an office-chair with ONE ARM... and ONLY possesion by a demon could be the cause of such a display of supernatural strength!!"
Notice how all the dramatic stuff the priest mentioned- "levitation", "people climbing walls", etc, was what he's HEARD, but when asked about what he'd SEEN, it was all explicable, non-supernatural stuff like "picking up office-chairs" and "writhing on the ground"?
It's only occultism/magic, if you invoke SOMEONE ELSE'S god!!!!"
It's amazing how the people who are the most paranoid about "occultism", can't recognize REAL, LITERAL occultism, when it's right in front of them... or even when THEY are ones practicing occultism...

I was there having a beer with Jesus and Satan was a welcome visitor as he brought more beer, ice, salted peanuts and a truckload of wayward Christian apologists as firewood. They contributed the warmth as it was a chilly night and as they are usually full of hot air, they brought rounds of laughter as each one exploded and blasted hot coals everywhere.
You know that if I was not there, nobody was around to spin that tale.
These nut cases are holding back human progression. I would say to not give them a platform, but the more of them who make content, the more skeptical thinkers will know fantasy from reality. The louder the religous shout, the faster they will eliminate themselves.

If you think ouija board is a motor response, you have not used it while connected to real spirits. You can close your eyes and go one handed and have a 3rd party write down the letters. It will still work. It is not the board, it is the spirits doing the work. IMO, do Not ever ask for anyone besides your spirit group/guides only. Do an opening and closing prayer.
Jack Daniels or Candian Club are good spirits to open with and pray you don't run out.

I heard a baby crying outside my bedroom window about 2am a few nights ago. It would not surprise me because there is a family in my street that gets numerous community service visitors and regular police attendance with flashing red/blue lights at all hours with of day and night.
I decided that household are probably being awarded well earned medals of honour bestowed on them by council and the police. The donors are so keen to deliver ASAP that they often send 3 police cars illuminating the whole area with spotlights and sometimes the barking dog unit. A few times the ambulance has come and that us probably because the recipient of the gold medallion swooned due to being overcome with emotion at being selected as the nation's honoured citizen. Well that is what I believe and it's true.
I will not consider any other possibilities.

Hi mate; how are you? I went on a winged horse ride today.

Who prays for the sinner who needs it most? Satan.

Multiple eyewitness testimonies corroborating each other and absolutely no personal benefit by giving it, if anything negative personal impact as was said... How much more "extraordinary" evidence do you need?
If there were video or photos Michael would say it could have been doctored.
If he saw it himself, He would have said, I hallucinated.
I admire his faith in nothing besides the physical. He would make a great Christian.
What’s wrong with being a porn star?
It is not what God designed any human being for. It is extremely objectifing and demeaning to humans to be treated that way, as though all we are good for is our bodies. God has so much more for people. Real relationships without selfish desires and objectifing. That are not just built on sex but every part of the person.
I'm not trying to sound holier-than-thou. Porn has been my biggest weakness my whole life. The more I get to know God though, the more disgusting I see porn is, even on the most basic level of being so far from what he wants us to be doing.
@@joshuaWEC to each their own. As with anything there can be issues and problems with certain fields of work. But given consent, agreed compensation, and safety, there’s nothing inherently wrong with it. An actor’s French kiss is fine but another organ in another orifice is a bridge too far? A bare arm is ok but a butt check isn’t? A man’s nipple is acceptable but a woman’s....?
We are “designed” unintelligently via evolution. Evolution is the most evidenced consensus in science.
If being a sex worker offends you or otherwise, don’t do it or watch it. The non stigmatization of it would better promote safety and likely improve conditions.
I do believe violence against women has decreased since pornography has been more readily accessible via the internet. Given ideal conditions of sex workers as mentioned, wouldn’t this fact be beneficial to society?
This is not to say I’m not all for real meaningful mutual relationships with actual people.

Christians don't have to debate with skeptics like Michael if they know something is true. They can just tell people it is true. We don't have to be 'playing with skeptics'. With some of these people you can probably say as many words as you can but they still will not believe.
