  • When elephant seals come back to Sea Lion Island (Falkland Islands) to moult skin and fur they enjoy to get into the tussac grass. Sometimes, they fall into deep holes produced by underground water erosion, from where they are not able to get out, and they may just die there. In the past, we rescued a few seals from holes, but the last one, a breeding female called TAMA, went into a really deep one. With the great help from Sea Lion Lodge, and a good deal of shovel work, we made a path and, with same effort, Tama was able get out of the hole and back to the beach. Good luck old lady ! And please stay clear from holes in the future !!!
