- An extract from Anthony Asquith's silent classic Underground, digitally restored by the BFI National Archive and featuring Neil Brand's new orchestral score performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Released on DVD/Blu-ray on 17 June 2013 - bit.ly/13jFV9N
More than any other film from Britain's silent canon, Underground evokes the life of the ordinary Londoner with its scenes of the bustling tube (the scene in this extract was filmed at Waterloo Station) and the capital's parks, double-decker buses, pubs and shabby bedsits.

watching that has suddenly made me feel happy..
Love BFI films, and old silents, and all of Hitch's
Amazing bit of history.
Such a great scene in one of Brian Aherne's early roles. Wonderful upload, BFI.

They are not standing on the right as I read the first escalators were the reason for this rule. Even that they drive on the left. So what is the real reason for standing on the right and where is the diagonal platform they are talking about.
Some of these old esculators were still around in the mid 1970's.
Some of them were still there in the 90s!
Some still going
I wonder what station that was filmed in? Looks fascinating.
Guess St John's station .. near Abbey Riad studios
Damn sight better score than the awful one for Piccadilly.
That employee is a bit of all right.
Lol😂
