Former US first lady Rosalynn Carter dies at 96

- Rosalynn Carter, the former First Lady of the United States who changed what it meant to serve in that role, has died. She was 96.
The Carter Center said the 96-year-old former first lady had died peacefully with family by her side.
“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” former President Jimmy Carter said in a statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”
Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter were married on July 7, 1946 - one month before Rosalynn’s 19th birthday. They had three sons over the next six years -- John William, James Earl III and Donnel Jeffrey - and then waited another 15 years before having a daughter, Amy.
She was a full partner with Jimmy in business and as he entered local, state and national politics. Jimmy declared Rosalynn was the “only politician in the family” - and he meant it.
Her unmatched ferocity to win was cloaked in her gracious Southern charms, earning her the nickname “Steel Magnolia”.

Both Jimmy and Rosalyn held my 2 mo old son when he was running for re-election campaigning first in our small town of McGregor Iowa. My husband was in the US Army and we were home on leave. Nothing could've made my widowed mother of 5 happier!

This is truly a sad day I feel like President Carter has battled through terminal cancer to stay by her side till she left and now I'm scared to say that we will probably lose him too now that is Rose is gone. 😢😢😢

The Carters have demonstrated what it means to be engaged in a lifetime of compassionate, public service. Like her husband, Roselyn Carter didnt just talk the talk...she walked the walk. She and Jimmy dedicated their lives to raising up those who are less fortunate than most of us. Their self sacrifice and humility stand in stark contrast to the current front runner for the republican presidential nomination, along with his followers in Congress. They represent the antithesis to the Carter's integrity, humanity and selfless dedication to make the world a better place. Rather, the man who is desperate to be president again, does all he can to encourage hate, racism, and division. He and his followers in Congress have shown us they are greedy, narcissistic and corrupt. Rest in Peace Rosalyn.

She lived a long life. I expect Jimmy won't be far behind. he'll be heartbroken and that can kill a man of that age. That happened to my uncle. My Aunt, his wife of 62 years died and 3 weeks later he died of a broken heart.
