Great analysis! Just on the comment at the end about the Irish Golden Generation. I remember thinking out Golden Generation had gone when O'Driscoll and a lot of that generation retired. And then we got even better. Our academy system does seem to be functioning amazingly well. Long may it continue
The academy going on right now will probably lead to RWC contention later down the track rather than 2027… I think RWC success is likely a bridge too far for the current lot sadly 😢

Irish here. Great analysis, thanks. What a boon for Ireland, down Sexton and Hansen, Crowley and Nash, and then the incredible McCarthy, get blooded in the biggest of tests. France were off, yes but Ireland should have had two more tries and I see Ireland even improving their close quarters, sleight of hands style. France's muscle was left flat footed and defensively we were great. Ireland really enjoying their game .. and that is huge! Lots of outstanding individual displays and I agree 'Johhny who?!', not so much because Crowley is his equal but because the team as a whole is sharing the responsibility so we are weaning ourselves off that over-dependence on the fly half. Pretty good going considering we were missing Ringrose and we still tore the French midfield apart. It's a nice start. I'll just take each game as it comes, not comfortable with people talking about Grand Slams already.

Think people are making a way bigger deal of the NZ loss than it was, NZ put in their best performance of the WC and arguably the best of the WC cycle along with the SA game at Mt Smart to beat them by less than a score. Ireland were about 2 inches from winning that game with Kelleher being held up over the line. Had they won that game they could easily have gone all the way and won the WC.
I think thats a misinterpretation of the mitigation framework at 5:54. Drop in height requires recent/simultaneous change in height from the player hit, where Willemse had forever and a day to adjust to Porter.
I was telling people before 6N even started this was going to happen. Was clear at WC 2023. Sexton was holding Ireland's final evolution back while France are but a fraction of themselves without Dupont by contrast. They are two players with opposite affects on the mentality of their teams.

If you think that was the golden generation just gone then you obviously have very little knowledge of the strength of the underage system in Ireland. A plan was put in place back in 2016 to ensure Ireland generates waves of talent. Considering that the u20s have won back to back grandslams it is obvious that this plan is starting to take effect.
Yeah, french clubs are driving a hard bargain with their U20 tho, they keep it for themselves. When the world championship comes, it might be a very different story. When they met in the final last year, it was a complete walkover for the french.

When fikou binds to Antonio before the tackle is made shouldn't this be a penalty to Ireland? My understanding is you can only bind to an attacking player after a defending player begins their tackle?
South Africa have been using the tactic for about a year now and have never been penalised for doing so. I haven’t seen anything in the law to show illegality?
@@TheBlackJersey I Figured this is a variation on the flying wedge which was banned years ago. I am curious to know if it is illegal because it happens a lot where attacking players are given momentum by team mates before tackle contact

thanks kiwi squidge.good insight. enjoy Auckland.Kelleher & doris were unsung heroes. French didn't look any better when O'Mahony was sent off. France cleared out their coaching staff after the WC. I think that's why they looked clueless tactically. Ireland lucky to get them first match.
@@paulnash5500 That's stupid. For Ireland, it's just the glorious continuation of a perfect run of elimination matches failure, for the french it was a dream opportunity to get there. I never fancied Ireland to win that qf, I thought France had a decent chance to go all the way though. Btw, it's not about what happened three months ago. You just watch that match and see. The french never looked like the team they could've been. Ireland were their usual selves, but I don't think they were quite so dominant, I just think the french were wayyy below their usual standard. Quite a disappointeing match, probly not a good idea to put this in the opening.
Max where do you get your stats from? The turnover stats doe snot take into consideration knock-ons, line outs, or interceptions. I think Ireland had 14 for the game, and Italy had 4. A more coprhensive view on overall ball retention, and ruck spead would be nive for your next reviews mate. Thanki you for the good work.
The victory is tempered by the French red card and the fact that Du Pont wasn't playing. Ireland may well have won anyway but not by as great a margin I think.
If France had 16/17 players playing or even the full 15 we Irish still would have won! They have no one stepping up to guide their playing style ! It’s let’s put on all the heavy props smash our way through play hope for the best! With Ireland its brains and with brains not being afraid to adapt their play! The Ireland team were always steps ahead!
@@TheBlackJersey There were no mitigating factors. Porter did not change his height at the last minute, Willemse charged at Porter and led with his shoulder directly onto his head. Here’s why it’s important to discuss it: Not only was it a staggeringly dangerous act of foul play and the yellow card the incorrect decision, by not giving him a red card it meant that he was allowed back on to the field and then he hit Doris on the head. That would not have happened had he been correctly given a red card and remained off the field. World Rugby has a duty of care to players. The yellow card was a disgrace. Any player who commits the offence that Willemse did against Porter should be red carded and receive a lengthy ban. Not allowed back onto the pitch to do it again to someone else.
France look rubbish without DuPont and Ntimack. Rudderless, pedestrian and without any creativity. Ordinary in fact. While Ireland without Sexton look just as good if not better. Sexton never had a win like that in France!! There’s two things the world didn’t believe 3 weeks ago!
About willemse's cards. What i find weird is that he tries to go low and doesn't succeed andvis therefore penalised. If he doesn't even try to go low both hits end up his belly and can not be penalised
@@lightlysaltedtaco4786my point exactly ! It is safer not to follow the rule than to try and fail. "Any contact between the shoulder and head is a yellow" dumb
Its really not. Shoulder charing the head with a trailing arm is dangerous. Rules are there for player safety and hes a professional. Thats on him. @nicolasfraize7552
@@TheBlackJersey definitely not arguing that, he tries to tackle and fail to keep everyone safe he deserves a ban. My point is: what happens if he doesn't try to tackle and just stays upright?
One thing I remember saying at half time while watching this is that France not taking the 3 points each time Ireland gave away a penalty was going to lose them the match - they turned down at least 3-4 kickable penalties in the first half for going for the corner, and managed to convert none of those attacks (I think. The Penaud try might have been off of one of those). Given that Ramos had brought his kicking boots, they effectively turned down a near-guaranteed 9 points (and possibly more as the tension from those penalties could have rattled Ireland) in the first half. Their refusal to take the points offered is what lost them the match, I feel.
I always enjoy your videos but Johnny who? That's very disrespectful to a great Irish hero. Jack Crowley was amazing because he's been learning beside Johnny for years. Johnny Sexton will always be there through the young guys he helped, so please don't disrespect our rugby legend for click bait.
I used "Johnny who?" in a chat straight after the game. It is not disrepectful, more demonstrating how the Irish team is still very capable without the recently retired hero.
@@stephensheridan6402 maybe I am. But most Irish people are emotional with Johnny not being there for the first time in years, and I felt a little sad that the implication of him being forgotten so soon. Sometimes words are thrown around very thoughtlessly and sometimes they hurt. I love Max's videos I love his analysis, so in conclusion, if you feel I'm being a big baby, that's your opinion, which you're very much entitled to. No hard feelings
@@SmcdMcd-d2k He didn't say that. But saying that Ireland destroyed France while the French clearly played badly and were 14 most of the game is for sensationalist headlines. Ireland played very well, all the players were in synch, outplayed the French but they didn't destroy them, that's the French who were out of their depth for various reasons.
@@puccaland the title is click bait for sure. I never said destroy either. France had 15 men until half time 17-3 to Ireland. Peter o Mahoney was also sin binned. Even with the 15 men can you honestly say the score line would have been closer. France were disorganised and lost. Which is not them .. Ireland tbf played smart rugby. I’d worry they might have exerted too much on Friday and we won’t see similar performances for the rest of the tournament
@@mathieuam4294 you were still 2nd best when it was 15 vs 15, and 14 vs 14 when O'Mahony went off. Just accept that the better team won and stop blaming a very deserved card
They have to change the rules back. So many internationals are like this. Its a waste of money going to international rugby these days unless you're interested in refereeing.
It's always been the rules that two yellow cards equals a straight red. Neither yellow was debatable. This had nothing to do with refereeing and everything to do with brainlessness by Willilamse.
AND HOPEFULLY FOR THE SAKE OF THE PLAYERS BRAINS…..IT WILL KEEP HAPPENING UNTIL THE COACHES PRIORITISE tackling without targeting the head. The players are smart enough to learn the new rules if the refs apply them consistently - and the coaches too when these careless and dangerous players are regularity sitting on the sideline - WRU needs to hold their nerve on this otherwise it’ll be NFL type pay-outs and the end of rugby [their pockets aren’t nearly as deep].
I think if we had Johny, the score would have been ridiculous. Crawley had a bad game and made some terrible decisions. Silly kicking choices, poor handling and missing opportunities. I put it down to nerves but hes been around a while now ans should be performing on the big stage. I can only hope with more game time he will settle and become more reliable.
Crowley was very good at his game management. Some of those passes and kicks are just simply timing issues and the only way to fix those is more minutes in test rugby 🏉
Crowley started badly but absolutely made up for it and got better with time. You must have been watching another game. You’re the first person to say he had a bad game.🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
That's absolute rubbish, Crowley had a very good game. It wasn't perfect and he made a few silly mistakes but overall his game management was superb and he had some quality touches (the pass for Beirne's try). I'm much more comfortable with Ireland's future at 10 after that game, it's only his second meaningful start for Ireland with his first one being more than a year ago.
They were played off the park even before the yellows and red. Remember, ireland had a yellow, and I'm not sure France even scored from that collapsed maul.
At 22 mins, Ireland was beating France at least 3 to 1 in every single stat. From carries to passes etc. The only stat France beat Ireland on was tackles made...
That's their own fault Ireland were already ahead before first yellow, when ireland got yellow, they still went on to score another try with even numbers, Smashed France, Oh and it's up to France not to tackle high and get their own players sent off, Such a poor dumb comment you have made

French farmers have my utmost respect. 💪
Up the Irish 💪🇮🇪☘️
England might win it by boring the opposition into a trance.
The health of the international game desperately needs for England and South Africa to fall off…
The irish are coming 😊
Very good video. Has the name of this channel changed? I'm sure I used to watch you but the name is unfamiliar.
I went by The Black Jersey, have rebranded a little so strangers aren’t going to assume I only cover the NZ scene. I’ll explain all shortly in a video bro 🙌
If the irish playvlike this across the whole year, then the Boks are going to have a challenge and a half against them
"IF"? Ireland have beat the Boks in their last 3 meetings.
Jip we all know. ......But when it count the Irish will crumble
@@nicdelange2900 So what do SA do when "it counts"? South Africa's 2019 Rugby World Cup winning fly-half Elton Jantjies has been banned for 4 years for drug taking. 😂😂😂😂
Hopefully the Springboks don’t win any of the Ireland tests… need revenge for the RWC 😢
@@washerdryer3466 Elton jantjies was not our first-choice flyhalf in 2019 dude. He barely played in the world cup
Brilliant analysis have to say. Most analysts can be so average. Well done and will continue watching
thanks kiwi squidge.good insight. enjoy Auckland.Kelleher & doris were unsung heroes. French didn't look any better when O'Mahony was sent off. France cleared out their coaching staff after the WC. I think that's why they looked clueless tactically. Ireland lucky to get them first match.
Uggy and this guy both better than Squidge though g
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nobody talks about how France have regressed in three months. The world cup is too close and they really don't look like they want to be there
Poor French babies. Not professional rugby players? The Irish were heart broken after the WC too, losing by 4 points 🥹
Ultimate Rugby has been my source for three years 😎
He wrapped in the second tackle not int he first. He was lucky.
The victory is tempered by the French red card and the fact that Du Pont wasn't playing. Ireland may well have won anyway but not by as great a margin I think.
The Irish will romp the 6N and 15v14 really helps.
Had 2 yellow cards ,3rd time got a red, had his warnings! Don't think it mattered Ireland was winning before he was sent off!
Yeah after France lost here, I don’t see anyone else challenging Ireland 😅
Another perspective. I don't think he would have done that wrecking tackle if France were on the front foot@@joebyrne3159
I think you are doing a great injustice to both Jack Crawley and the Irish Rugby Team by consistently bringing Johnny Sexton into the equation.
Sexton is the benchmark for Irish outhalfs. All options in Ireland, right now, and including Crowley, are miles behind Sexton
Nah g Sexton the Irish Dan Carter what you talking bout Crowley’s still like 19 lmao
The hit on Porter was a red card.
Mitigating factors. Willemse was sent off for two yellows anyway so I don’t see it as worth discussing 🤷♂️
@@TheBlackJersey There were no mitigating factors. Porter did not change his height at the last minute, Willemse charged at Porter and led with his shoulder directly onto his head.
Here’s why it’s important to discuss it:
Not only was it a staggeringly dangerous act of foul play and the yellow card the incorrect decision, by not giving him a red card it meant that he was allowed back on to the field and then he hit Doris on the head.
France wil sort themselves out and adjust to no Dupont.
I think it is the combination of no dupont and no ntamack that dislocated them in this game
France look rubbish without DuPont and Ntimack. Rudderless, pedestrian and without any creativity. Ordinary in fact. While Ireland without Sexton look just as good if not better. Sexton never had a win like that in France!! There’s two things the world didn’t believe 3 weeks ago!
Pretty classy with a S of H to boot......I like it
About willemse's cards. What i find weird is that he tries to go low and doesn't succeed andvis therefore penalised. If he doesn't even try to go low both hits end up his belly and can not be penalised
Yeah cause he can't do much damage to the runner
@@lightlysaltedtaco4786my point exactly ! It is safer not to follow the rule than to try and fail. "Any contact between the shoulder and head is a yellow" dumb
Its really not. Shoulder charing the head with a trailing arm is dangerous. Rules are there for player safety and hes a professional. Thats on him. @nicolasfraize7552
No. He put no effort into going low enough. He’s a repeat offender and should receive the longest possible ban.
They were losing at home and down a man for a lot of the game, they needed to score tries when the chances arose
I always enjoy your videos but Johnny who? That's very disrespectful to a great Irish hero. Jack Crowley was amazing because he's been learning beside Johnny for years. Johnny Sexton will always be there through the young guys he helped, so please don't disrespect our rugby legend for click bait.
Not to speak for max..but i think you`re getting a little emotional and overreacting, he gave nothing but praise to the Irish side
I used "Johnny who?" in a chat straight after the game. It is not disrepectful, more demonstrating how the Irish team is still very capable without the recently retired hero.
Christ would you stop
@@stephensheridan6402 maybe I am. But most Irish people are emotional with Johnny not being there for the first time in years, and I felt a little sad that the implication of him being forgotten so soon. Sometimes words are thrown around very thoughtlessly and sometimes they hurt. I love Max's videos I love his analysis, so in conclusion, if you feel I'm being a big baby, that's your opinion, which you're very much entitled to. No hard feelings
@@fishyq5077 that's your perogative, but I don't have to agree with you.
France discipline let them down
Yup, Ireland might have conceded more penalties, but France’s penalty timing is what got then rather than the amount 👀
that France was playing with 14 men(one was red carded) for most of the match didn't help................
Ireland were 14 points ahead with all French players on the team/ you can’t actually say ireland didn’t play well because they did
He had only himself to blame.
France need to be better then
@@SmcdMcd-d2k He didn't say that.
Ireland look a far better side without the whinging moaning Sexton.

Ireland probably would have won anyway 😅
They have to change the rules back.
So many internationals are like this.
Its a waste of money going to international rugby these days unless you're interested in refereeing.
It's always been the rules that two yellow cards equals a straight red. Neither yellow was debatable. This had nothing to do with refereeing and everything to do with brainlessness by Willilamse.
@@LFire12it's not interressing match because yellow and red cards for nothing at 8ème minute the spectacle is destroyed 14 vs 15
@@mathieuam4294 Then willenmese should have taken that into account before trying to kill Porter
I'm not having a go at Ireland, this just happens too often since recent law changes and will continue to ruin games to come.
Johnny who
Don't forget that DuPont, N'tamack, Flament, Jelonch, Meafou, Marchand, Taofifenua were missing (to name a few) from the French squad
Because France had Yellow and Red cards.
That's their own fault Ireland were already ahead before first yellow, when ireland got yellow, they still went on to score another try with even numbers,
Smashed France,
Oh and it's up to France not to tackle high and get their own players sent off,
