My Synapse just came in. I was a little concerned at first due to the way the box looked. It looked a little beat up, so I took pictures before opening it. Seller did wrap it up decent, cosmetically great condition no nicks to dings. Strings are old but that's not a big deal, my only complaint is the pots are super scarachty this is why I think it's been sitting for a while . He sent it in an old Sprit bag, granted he did state that. But the bag smells like mole. I think with fresh pair of strings/setup and I had plan on changing the pre any way it will be a great bass.
There is a special Synapse bag, well at least when I bought it. It's a little thicker than the standard Steinberger bags. Funny my Grassroots bass came in a bag which smells like it has been in a fire (or next to it). I had it for 5 days in the open air, but it didn't help...
I will look for that bag, I think I saw it before. Over all the miner few things I need to do to the bass I like it. And your right much bigger body than the XT. Feel way more professional, Reminds of of my Synapse transcale.
You're right, a lot of simularities indeed. And to be honest, they both aren't my first pick if I want to play a Steinberger (or NS in this case). There is something with these basses, but I can't realy pinpoint it, which makes them a second choice. Gun to my head, I choose the NS. Just better ergonomics.
@@neoland666 It's crazy when I brought the Synapse guitar a few years back I paid $700 now these folks are asking the same price for what I brought my Kiesel and Standberg guitars ! Haa I brought a Les Paul studio a few years back here in NY for $1,100 now the same guitar at Sweet Water goes for $1,600 Prices has gotten rediculous these days.
@@neoland666 And Oddly enough when I put the bid on the Synapse bass I didn't think I was going to win it at that price LOL. I was sure I was going to be out bedded :)
The Synapse is a much more sturdier, and I don't know another word but, professional feeling bass. Also the slightly bigger body makes a difference. Not bashing the XT, but I think it is one of the weaker models. And that has everything to do with the fact that it is made out of wood ofcourse. The L and XL are the same model, but due to the carbon graphite material, superior to all the wooden models.
@@neoland666 Quick question do you still use your XT much these days? Interesting enough I looked at the video you did on the XT vs an Original Steinberger. And actually thought the XT sounded great in the mix. Reason why I ask is I am debating on putting my XT up for sale or maybe adding a few mod's and just keeping it. I actually like the bass, I got it as a project bass in the beginning. I was going to upgrade the pre & put some EMG's into it. Now that I got the Synapse coming today I am not seeing much reason to upgrade the XT now.
@@mixc8 The amount of basses I got stashed in this very small room/studio isn't funny anymore. I saw this video from the late John Entwhistle, who had this room with cases with basses inside and tags attached which bass was in there. It starts to look like that here too. Only they are gigbags with tags. So, to keep this short, no I don't use that bass an awful lot. It's parked between the other ones, right now.
@@neoland666 Ahahaha Oddly I have the same issue, I have I think like 30 basses in here right now in gig bags in a extra room. Plus I keep some cases here. My other basses and cases I keep in a controlled climate storage unit. I am currently looking to buy a lager place to expand my studio. After these 2 basses I got coming in (The Synapse and 1 Tom Clement custom bass) No more basses until next year after I move. Besides there are only a couple of basses left I want to add to the collection and then I am done :)
@@mixc8 I love the "then I'm done" part, it's the same as that junky which says "I can quit right now if you want". I told my wife exactly that, when I did another bid on yet another bass a few days ago....
I haven't got a clue, to be honest. I do find this though at Headless USA: Bass Synapse Harness - Active PCB w/ Pots 4 SEL-102 $416.65 . It doesn't say EMG anywhere, so I'll guess it's a Steinberger developed one.
Hi Neo I can across an interesting video ruclips.net/video/yql4QOIHnzw/видео.html seems this gentleman added a 2nd pick up to his Synapse. I was actually thinking about this. If I am correct he also changed the bridge and pre, I like the tone!

As I thought Headless USA only deals with original Steinberger's. I just spoke with them and that why the pre is a bit high. I will find one :)

Do you think that Gibson will make storics Steinberger XL/XQ again?

That would be nice won't it. I am afraid it will never happen.

Hi Neo they sound similar to my ears. What's your take on the differences and do you prefer one over the other?

@@mixc8 I bought the Synapse when it was released, knowing it would only go up in price. It was slightly more as you payed now.

@@mixc8 I agree, prices have gone through the roof.
So since I got the Synapse I will sell the XT :)
