  • Video shows and explains items concerning how to get coffee that is not influenced by deposits of old coffee. Descaling is showed in another video. Frequency slightly depending on intensity of use of the machine and if you can prevent overfilling of the portafilter.

    I would suggest the Puly Caff powder and a blind filter, it's so much easier and no need to take the machine apart, plus more efficient than the dishwasing fluid/soap. But I just came here to say thank you for enlightning me on how to put the drip tray cover. I have always put it with the bent part facing down. Having checked the parts diagram after watching your video I noticed that I had been doing wrong for so long.

    I just did a service on mine earlier today before I saw this and what a horrifying mess it was despite the fact I backflush weekly. Yours is immaculate. I think I'll tear it down once a month to keep it super clean inside the grouphead.
    The service kit I used contains the gasket and oring, the bottom screen and a new centre screw and a new double basket for the portafilter, so all those parts replaced every 12 months.

      Also check my newer video on cleaning. Faster and easier. Why waste money on renewing parts that never wear out like the sieves? ruclips.net/video/LCRSplX1hbc/видео.html My Lelit is 5 yra old. I replaced the gaskets only once. Turning the large transparant one upside down helps a lot too. Enjoy your coffee! Gerard

    I noticed that normal detergents cannot dissolve the grease stuff on the brass parts. Dasty like kitchen cleaners do this very well. Do not allow it to dry on hot parts by rinsing with ample water. Never noticed a smell. Thanks for your compliments. I recently opened an automatic espresso machine and was again shocked by the accumulated dirt (with fungus growing on it) in the machine. But working with a non-automatic machine asks for more knowledge to operate it well. Cleaning is much more simple as shown in this video.

      you need coffee detergent, or coffee machine detergent, it's made to cut the coffee oils and won't damage the metal coating over the brass components and also very important look for a blind filter and look up how to use it. look at this link trust me it's way better and easier www.pulicaff.com/store/store/comersus_index.asp

      Hello Josh and others. You suggest to use a special coffee machine detergent and a blind filter. Well, my meaning is that special detergent are generally speaking only very special in price! Dasty (kitchen) cleaner will remove ALL oils including coffee oil and grease without attacking chrome or nickel plating as it is not alkaline (like dish washer and laboratory equiment detergent) nor acid. It is an incredibly effective soap. Cleaning with a blind filter (so called blind filtering) can only be applied with machines with a pressure release valve. There are many quality espresso machines that do not have this option. Furthermore blind filtering only cleans the wetted parts and not the sections for instance around the gasket where much dirt can accumulate. So I think my method is more effective, cleans more parts and is cheaper. Greetings Gerard

      you didn't watch the video I linked? your machine has the pressure relief valve and the blind filter will back wash your boiler, thing that your method does not do, coffee cleaner is a food graded cleaner, your detergent is toxic. I guarantee you if you blind filter clean your machine filthy water will come out. your method is good for a heavy duty clean witch will have to be done less often.

    • @gerards-tips-and-tricks

      Hello Josh and others. Of course I watched the video. No detergent will ever reach the boiler itself. The only way to reach the inside of the boiler is by putting something in the cold water reservoir and activating the pump! Only use an food grade descaling agent to clean the boiler. Blind filtering AND my method will NOT clean the boiler as it cannot enter the boiler from below. Blind filtering and my method will only clean the portafilter and the parts above it such as the disperser (sieve) above it and the output part (tubes) of the boiler and the pressure release valve.

      Forgot to add that all detergents are not meant for human consumption. When using the “special” coffee detergent you suggest you must rinse the system several times to prevent human contact. Same as when using kitchen cleaner. Gerard

    Thanks for this video. I have a Breville. Usually after I scrub under the shower screen I rinse that area with a water bottle with a hole in the cap so it squirts water up there. I keep a cup under to collect rinse water.

    Thank you very much gor the clear instructions. There are also "pills" that are spposed to clean the machine without taking things apart. However, I suspect that chemistry cannot be as efficient as "old school" cleaning with one's hands. Morover, your instructions help to monitor the health of the gasket as well as of the o-ring.

      @@gerards-tips-and-tricks Many thanks for the additional instructions. I boght the Lelit because I didn't want to buy a complex automatic machine, which would break and become dirty and unusable after a while. Your instructions will help to keep the machine for even longer time than I expected - good for earth, for the wuality of out coffee as well as of our pockets. Much appreciated!

    Surprised by how well you stripped it and put back together! Too many people run their coffee machines stuffed with tons of coffee deposits. I'm keeping away scented kitchen detergents from coffee equipment, though - but clean machine is better than dirty, agreed. Just can't get over feeling your coffee has a lemon scent but hopefully it washes off without leaving any film.

    Thanks, I have the same machine but use it with thé filtre which can be done with any coffee regardless to the size/moulure.. I did not have a lot of pression, m'y button still on 1 or 2 bars only... Do you know how to résolve this please ??

    • @gerards-tips-and-tricks
      @gerards-tips-and-tricks  4 года назад

      I do not know what you mean exactly with "thé filtre". Do you mean (paper) pads filled with coffee? If yes then I am convinced that you will get much better quality coffee if you use (fine) ground pressed with a tamper (like you see me doing) in order to get a 9-12 bar pressure. Only this pressure will result in an Italian style/taste espresso coffee. Any lower pressure will result in water passing too quickly resulting in watery coffee. You can write in French if you like. Gerard

    i sugest to use Puly Caff powder much stronger and has absolutely no smell smell of perfume ,and when you open the shower ... it's good to have a spare silicon lelit oring in the house in case it is damaged ....

    Thanks for the video. I want to ask you about operation of this machine. When it will be ready to brew? After the second light is off or on? If it idle is on and off every 2-3 minutes. When the temp is normal for espresso? Thanks in advance.

    • @gerards-tips-and-tricks
      @gerards-tips-and-tricks  4 года назад +1

      When the second light goes off, the water in the boiler is at the required temperature. However, the lower parts of the boiler and the portafilter need to be hot too to get well brewed coffee. So you need to wait some 20 minutes after switching ON. You can speed up the heating process of the portafilter by pressing the pump switch several times for ten seconds to allow hot water to flow through the portafilter without coffee in the filter This is in the manual so I suggest you read the manual! Gerard
