my wifes bangel of 15 years would steel noodles off her plate. thunder would not eat tuna. but you open a can of spegity O's and hes running to your side and would sit right in front of you waiting for you to give him some. if you brought out a suitcase and not his carrier he would wait till you packed it and pee on the cloths when your back was turned. he had to go with you. he would crawl up on your lap and go to sleep and if you moved and woke him he would claw you. we miss him lol

Thanks for sharing! Gatsby is so much like my own Bengal, Chief. He pretty much does all the same things and then some. We found out early on that he LOVES to fetch things like a dog, it definitely makes playing easier. We also found out that he likes to talk and get into every nook and cranny. In fact he gets into so many odd places he was able to retrieve a very special ring I lost in a couch 6 years previous and had never been able to get out. Bengals are truly special friends.

LOL....such a BEAUTIFUL cat...I was given a kitten by a co-worker that he almost hit w/ his car....turns out his gave me a Bengal cat! LOL He's only about 3 months old, so he is growing a pound a month in addition to his markings and facial features changing by the day. It's amazing to watch and I'm such a proud momma, knowing someone gave me a Bengal cat because he didnt want to put the time and energy into a kitten, that I know he had no clue was a Bengal :)

lydia as an owner of two Bengals with plenty of experience (ie I run my business from home) and am with my cats most days all day when they're indoors. I can say that your comment is rather sweeping. He, to my experienced eye is bored. I wonder if he has verticals to climb and sleep on that he won't get into trouble climbing? I wonder if he can go out? I wonder if he's left alone a lot?

    • @acatonasnowboard21

Quick update on Gatsby- this was almost 3.5 years ago and he has quite a bit more room to run around now (in a new house) + mandatory play time every day to tire him out. He's still very energetic (I think the breed has a lot to do with that) but he has another cat and two dogs in the house to play with. He does indeed have verticals to climb on now and he LOVES it!

Mt cat Tigger is half Bengal and Half Egyptian Mau... yes as a kitten it was a game of "what can I push on the floor that I am not supposed to touch", but he is a very good cat now that he is 10, still climbs where he isn't supposed to and gives me a what look when I tell him to get down... fiercely loyal and when an uninvited male guest at a party slapped me(he was the friend f a friend of a friend... yeah one of those) Tigger attacked him, 22 stitches later at the ER they had the bleeding stopped... Tigger got an extra treat that night before bed! I had asked the guy to leave because he would crash parties and get stupid drunk, get into fights, trash houses... he was not wanted in my house and Tigger picked up on it! Tigger is 2 feet long not including tail and weighs 20 pounds...

    2. All of my cats love a box with holes in it. I tie a shoelace through the hole and tie a fur mouse to it. Each box has a toy tied to each end. They never seem to get bored with this box. My Siamese and my first Burmese cats loved to play with Kleenex and shred the toilet paper. My solution to keeping the toilet paper safe was to keep several rolls in a large tin popcorn tin.
They both also learned how to open cupboard doors and get at whatever was inside. I came home one day and found my large bag of flour all over the kitchen floor and a bag of kibble all over the flour.
My Siamese actually learned to put her two paws around the round doorknob and open the door. I have no idea that cats were that smart or strong. I had to get a doorknob with a lock on it to keep her out of 1 room. I had a plastic zip tie that I put around the 2 double cupboard doors...she just chewed her way through it. God, I loved that cat!!!

Your video is priceless. Most cats do that, but Bengal cats are just ten times stronger than any normal cat, i mean, i have scars from playing with my two Bengals, and they're able to knock really heavy things off of your shelters... They have a tendency to jump and climb on everything i love. One of them is not bothered at all by people or big dogs, which can be very dangerous for him but hey, he's just too wild to keep in the house. The other one is a female, and she's SO tense, whenever she's in someon's arms she's literally hanging off the person's arms. But they're also worth heaps of love and cuddles, like any other cat. Love your pets, people, they'll return it!

your bengal is really calm compared to my guy.
just while watching this video he has splashed all the the water out of his bowl with his paws, and pulled open the drawer where i hide the toys he cant have when not being watched.
he has also managed to figure out how to do things suck as pulls pieces off the toilet in the master bedroom and hide them. So we have to search the entire house for the damn flush button.

This is not the case with every Bengal cat. I too was affraid of the demolition he might do to my house but with just a bit of training (scolding for things he shouldn't do) he turned out to be a very sweet cat. Even with them she gets into plenty of trouble. My best advice is get him a playmate. Maybe a domestic cat unless you're home a good bit and if so then another Bengal. But beware of double the trouble.

Our domestic siamese does the same, his favorite is knocking things off of the counter tops and watching our bull dog chew it up. They really do make a great team. You'll notice a lot less mischief if you engage your pet in daily play times, a simple string and feather works wonders for the longevity of our nick nacks.

Not true at all. This is an SBT Bengal, I own one myself. They don't "require" anything more than any other domestic cat, besides maybe a little more exercise because they are high energy. Most cats can live in apartments just fine, bengals are no exception. You don't need floor space, you just need to build up. The Asian Leopard Cat (the small wild cat bengals are bred from) are tree dwellers.

Dominance is not as high a priority as some old-fashioned training techniques would lead you to believe. What you want is _respect_, (preferably affection), and you can get that from any animal whether it has a dominant or submissive personality.

So, against the Vets advice, he's already out with us climbing the trees in our wooded garden. First he was on a harness but now he goes pretty much anywhere he likes.
Spares the furniture and, more importantly, our sanity. Altitude is definitely his thing.

I've watched your video and find it highly ironic then while you might be highlighting what you consider to be negative points about about the bengal breed , albeit in a light hearted manor . - your cat is clearly bored has no heights to get or jump to which the breed needs also you mentioned your a student are you out at school a lot of the day - they get lonely and crave attention it's clear that's what he's after when your back - also your living what looks to be in student digs and I expect the cat is mainly confined to that tiny room - do you allow him safe access to fresh air or not - I feel extremely sorry for him - I hope that when (if not already ) you have graduated you move and provide him with a better home with more space and heights and less clutter to live in - and maybe an outside pen. And a companion to play with . I have 2 bengals and a bombay myself and would never be so selfish to raise an animal in this manner - did you not do your research before purchasing the cat ?

Yeah, my cat while not a Bengal (Siamese/tabby) has a very similar temperament to what I've heard Bengal owners describe. I've found that the inside craziness went down a lot when I move somewhere I felt safe letting him outside. So much so in fact he pretty much ignores the dedicated toys I had to entertain him in the apartment. Still plays with boxes that weren't supposed to be toys though.

      @acatonasnowboard21  10 лет назад +6

To answer your points in brief: I filmed this over several months to 'purposely' catch him in his most annoying moments. He was not confined to a small room, he had the entire apartment to play in with lots of toys (and also went on walks in the local park). I understand your concerns, but what I think is important to take from this is that a relatively short youtube video is not an accurate reflection of his entire life.

What a dreary, patronising comment on a light hearted and amusing little vid.Bengals are a bit nuts, there is one clawing her way up my curtains as I type, outdoors or indoors, they are bizarre but adorable. Its pretty obvious this owner takes very good care of her cat and he is a happy lad.

My Bengal cat (I have two, but one in particular) has a habit of knocking over glasses. If you take your eyes away from your glass, one minute later you will hear a loud bang and water spilling on the carpet. He literally doesn't give up, if it is heavy he will use both paws to push the glass. Bengals can be very naughty, but they are so irresistible :) (btw ur Bengal is stunning, have you ever thought about showing him?)

I have two Bengals, Echo, my boy kitty, and Moyà, my little girl. They're the only breed of cat I've ever had and the destruction is normal, but they're my babies. I love how Moyà knocks everything over, not really, and Echo climbs into anything and everything. I have to wash my dishes twice. Once after use and again before use to get rid of cat hair, etc., because they won't stay out of the cupboards!

Glad to hear you moved with your Bengal into a larger space. Bengals are very active, have high energy and need interactive play daily. That's you teasing your Bengal with a toy on a stick and string, for at least 10 minutes a day, up to twice a day. If you don't use that Bengal attack/kill energy in a positive way, they're going to take it out on your personal/breakable things.

Just saw this, folks are getting a Bengal and wanted to see what they were getting into. I was expecting a cat-lovers-frenzy-video, you know the kind I mean. I was surprised when it was actually quite good. Thanks for the great vid and restoring my faith in cat lovers :) ha, that sounds so patronizing. I didn't mean it like that at all. I'll be coming back to see what else you upload :) Ciao!

Perfect training technique! And yes, it's amazing how sweet and loving they are (when they aren't destroying things, but ya know, worth it). Sounds like they've got a great diet, I want to gradually switch Gatz off of the bagged food.

After growing up with many Siamese and Burmese cats at age 46 yrs old I finally got my first Bengal (a female). She was then about 1.5 yrs and is now almost 8. One of her favorite activities, among many, is to use her front paws to give me a massage on any available soft tissue as in thigh, shoulder, upper arm, stomach or anywhere else. Her record was a 15 minute message on my shoulder as I was laying on my stomach. She is very, very intelligent and has trained me very well.

He is too cute. My bengal, Kali, likes to do similar thing like hiding behind a curtain at bedtime (even though I can fully see her legs) until you poke it and she goes into attack mode. She also does parkour style wall flips to save time running round corners.

My cat is a shorthair and during the winter he will get under the covers, if a wadded blanket is somewhere around the house he will find an opening in the blanket & go inside the blanket-completely covered. When making a bed he sometimes comes in and gets on the bed and lays down while you're trying to put the blanket on.

He is so cute. I had a stray mixed cat that was part grey tabby and possibly Bengal. Same shape head and body. Cute mix of blonde and grey stripes that melt into spots. He acted just like him. Sad that he died in June at age four from a genetic disorder causing a blood clot blocked bladder. So glad my three nine year old cats are still going strong.

The reason I found your video is that my aunt got herself a Begal as well as my cousin, so I had to see what is so great about these types of cats. All I can say now is that my aunt and cousin are going to be having quite the time trying to get their cats out of things. This should be interesting, since I hope that my aunt and cousin know what they are getting into.

Yeppers! Just like that! Mine is 8 now, so a bit calmer sometimes. I still have to tell him, No!, all the time. I tell him, 'Whatever you WANT to do, DON'T do it!" With love, over time, he really has learned loving behaviors. Sometimes surprises me with an altruistic, loving gesture. He - they all - get raw meat twice daily, plus other healthy foods. Where would he get that outdoors in a city these days? He loves his Mom, and I love him!

I have a snow white Bengal. She is 5 months old. I found her on the side of the road when she was 6 days old and have been there bottle feeding her and all. She loved knocking things down, sniffing my coffee cup, climbing on the counters, when her food bowl is empty she drops it off the fireplace ledge then looks at me. She rarely meows and makes this weird brrt noise instead. That is how she communicates. She loves licking my nose, and when there are gloves, plastic, socks, or anything of that sort she takes them. She also made me run for my headphones around the house. Her name is Zoey by the way.
