Seriously ty got this on sale and it’s way more fun then expensive machines I own it’s a freaking steal at 100$ bucks and one of the most fun machines I ever used now I’m thinking about buying a backup
I watch this educational video 2x a year...Perfect Circuit never disappoints. Funny too. PC totally gets me. I toured with Trent Reznor in the late 90's and he loved this shit!
- This post is the trigger to push away my last doubts on buying this unit! I am a guitarplayer myself (punk/metal/industrial). I never really played with samplers like this. I love industrial music and from hearing some examples on youtube I already got a NIN / Ministry vibe. Looks great to create some nice industrial backingtracks. Hearing from you Trent loved this, I have to have one! Met him myself in 2007 and got my guitar signed by the band :)
You can plock on the first one too. My favorite thing to do is record motion sequencing without recording notes and then play the sound live. It works like complex modulation that isn't repetitive.
oh snap for real? We tried it on that V1 unit but it didnt work like the V2, motion sequencing was the same but the V2's p-locking was way intuitive, we'll check it out though thanks ! :)
@@PerfectCircuit If you never sorted it out, Big Umami recently posted a video that explains how it works differently on V1: ruclips.net/video/EHJoM1G1yrw/видео.html
Had the original Sample. Bought it used it a bit but I'm really into Sludge metal so Guitars fuzz pedals and big old amps took center stage. The Sample sat around and a friend wanted it so I sold it. Now 7-8 years later and not playing much Sludge and I'm really missing it. I bought an Akai MPK mini play and have been making beats with a looper pedal and some other effects and It's cool and fun, but I'm going to get a new Sample. You reminded me how much fun that little piece of kit is. Great vid fren.
This thing looks amazing. I use to have an MPC One and really loved it. I still use mpc software but nothing beats the real thing. This looks like it'll be super fun. Can't wait to use it.
I've owned MPC's, just about every model of Electribe (currently Electribe Sampler 2), Digitakt, and they are all great machines, but this little bad boy, sure it's limited, but it's a really cool little device. Its very powerful for the size too, very cool for making beats in bed, on the go etc. It definitely has a sound too, for whatever reasons, it actually has 16 bit, 32khz sample format, but sounds like far less, and the aliasing in the samples is pretty extreme, can be good or bad but very characterful. The motion sequencing is very powerful, each step can be a different note, have different decay, attack, length, tone control etc. A unique little box and one of my favorite beatmaking machines! I do have a problem with mine though, the samples can become garbled after a while. I just back mine up with the excellent editor software, and reload when necessary.
Electribe EMX-1 ... I had to sell mine but, I made that thing make sounds and styles I've never heard other's make. It had a distinct sound but, really gave me that happy feedback of quick success from its simple workflow.
The volca sample was also my gateway drug into groove boxes .. I’m wondering if the drumlogue is bringing that volca sample character with all the analog extras and more..
6:17 That's so cool! This is the first music toy I've got, but the instructions are DENSE. I missed this feature on my four previous reads and totally fills in a gap. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for that helpfull and emotional 🤗 Video. As a bamboo and Woodflutemaker I have to say my heart beats for my flutes 😄 but the volca sample is the Best Electronic Soundmachine I ever had.The Workflow is incredible, the sounds are exzellent. I had an korg electribe, and now I got a miniak ,wich I'm not whery happy with. 🎋
Love the drum sounds on this more than many other drum machines. I haven’t tried making my own samples yet and importing them. It’s a little confusing.
@@PerfectCircuit I tried uploading samples and it didn’t work. Do you have to delete stock samples first to make room? Where do the new samples show up in the number order? Last?
there's no way i wouldn't do that almost straight after getting it. i'm a breakbeat nut, and also want some dirty industrial noise for it. i have one in the post. i can't wait to get it.
Its cool it can do so much if you practice with it a bit. I think I jive more with the elektron stuff but if this was all I can afford it would still be great. I got mine as a gift last year and its fun to just pick up and play since its small and self powered.
Imo it's worth it to spend an extra 50$ and get a used Electribe 2 sampler. That thing was such a workhorse for me when I first started doing hardware production. I've since moved onto an MPC but sometimes I still miss the great workflow of those machines.
Electribe 2 sample is 399 new, 299 used. This is 109 new! Even those not discounting the price, it's 159 to 169. I always felt Electribe was over priced. At 400.00 you are so close to a used mpc one. Seen those for 600 to 650 in great shape!
I'm all about the MPC pads when I do live padding with my samples, for everything else I'm into trackers like Renoise. I was looking for cheap and portable samplers earlier today to sync some breakbeats and/or to trigger videogames and movie quotes (or whatever lol) in between songs for my livesets and was surprised to see that the most recommended one is a Volca ! Nice video man, seeing you talking love about these samplers makes me want to get it even more lol !
Have had fun with VS OG thx to Pajen firmware that was... mindblowing! Sold it for Liven Lofi12 as i want polyphonic chromatic kb play that VS2 do not have, and it should imo😢
It doesn't make a huge difference though, most people hardly ever connect these to a computer. But yeah, USB C would've been nice. If there's a Korg Volca Sampler 3, it might get it. I'd also like variable rate sampling up to 48 khz, user ability to choose 8, 12 or 16 bit, on device sampling, integrated battery, aux input and mutual output to a DAW over USB, micro SD card slot with direct sample streaming, ability to record unquantised beats. I'd pay 2 or 3 times more for these features.

i just ordered one earlier from ebay. i'd been tempted to hold out and get an MPC 500 instead, and it was really hard to decide if i should or not. it was being able to feed it through with USB that swung it for me. (and being half the price helped too). the 2 main things i was wondering was can i do jungle on it, and can i do industrial. and i have now seen videos of it doing both, just fine. and now i realise i can put it in my bag, cycle somewhere with it and just sit in the sun somewhere (drinking wine) and jam with it, i can't wait for it to arrive now!
Was thinking of getting one myself but the whole thing of only being able to sample from a computer sucks for me as I try and do stuff without computers but let me know how I get on with it...I just got a po ko33 few days ago it's a great little tool ..if u ain't got one you should invest in one while there so cheap

You can import samples using usb, but not record. Also, a good trick to save memory on the volca is to double the speed of the samples before you import them, then slow them down using the pitch function on the unit.
I love your enthusiasm (and history) for this device it is definitely one of the cooler Volcas and for the price it's hard to say anything bad about it, especially for a beginning synth/electronica musician. However I would NOT call this device a "sampler". It's more of a "sample sequencer". To me a "sampler" can actually take an input and cut a sample from it and then you can adjust the beginning and end of the sample and even cut it up into smaller pieces. I may be wrong but I don't believe the Volca Sample can do that, you need to supply the finished samples to it and from there you can't really edit the samples. Am I wrong?
I somehow tripped over one of these in the classifieds section and went down the longest rabbit hole I've been down in a while.
Same here.
