  • We've all heard presentations about the importance of DEI. In this powerful talk, Carin Taylor shares why belonging is the focus of her DEI strategy and the most important piece of the DEI discussion. She outlines the key ingredients needed to belong and how to create them. Carin Taylor is the chief diversity officer at Workday, a leader in enterprise cloud applications for finance and human resources. Within her role, Carin has global responsibility for the development and execution of the company’s DEI&B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging) strategy. In her session she’ll describe this strategy in greater detail, highlighting why belonging is a key focus to her as a leader. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

“A society that puts equality-in the sense of equality of outcome-ahead of freedom will end up with neither equality nor freedom. The use of force to achieve equality will destroy freedom, and the force, introduced for good purposes, will end up in the hands of people who use it to promote their own interests.” ~Thomas Sowell

I always smile and say hello, and ask them where they have come from, when I don't know them at a meeting, so that we have something to chat about. I am always aware that even though I may be comfortable at meetings, where I don't know anyone, many other people are not, so it helps them to feel calmer and welcomed.

Thanks for sharing your DEI strategy. You've really helped raise my awareness. I love connecting with people through humor and have found if it's positive and uplifting, it can help people feel included. Congrats on a great TEDx Talk!

Do you think straight white men have "positive personal experiences of belonging" under DEI when every metric of this grift portrays them as the ultimate villian?

How is that your response smh? If you watch the entire video, you'll see your comment doesn't make sense and is off topic. She's simply talking about creating a work environment where everyone can thrive. To your point, it's common sense that if you can't do the job it's probably not for you.
