BREWING MEAD at the Grand Canyon with Kveik Yeast

- Опубликовано: 10 сен 2020
- We recently went on a camping trip to the Grand Canyon and decided to bring some brewing gear with us! So we brewed up a hydromel with kveik yeast, honey, and lemon. With temperature swings from the 40s F to the 90s F, how did it go? We only brewed for four days! Join us on the Grand adventure to try to brew a drinkable mead in the forest!

Thank you so much for sharing that gorgeous sunrise!
Very cool! Reminds me of my trip. I like your brewing style!
My wife and I live in Tulsa and will be taking a road trip to the Grand Canyon next week! Maybe we'll get a chance to check out Lipan Point! I won't be able to brew while we're there but I have a bottle of mead from MMM that I might take with.
Definitely check it out - absolutely worth it. There's a place off to the right of Lipan Point's lookout where you can hop down slightly and get a view with no railing and brace yourself on the rocks. It was an incredible view. Makes your toes curls!
Everytime the credits come up I go "HEY THERES MY NAME!". It has officially gotten to the point where my wife goes "COOL!" lol
Thank you for your support!
@@DointheMost Thanks for the Content worth supporting!
To bad you weren’t able to find wild raisins to get that all natural camping nutrient feel
On this episode of Doin' the Most - foraging for wild raisins!
@@DointheMost I do believe you would have to find them first as grapes.
Gotta say you look like Freddy Krueger in that hat😂😂😂
Well now I can't unsee it!
I love the idea, I might have to try something like that on my next camping trip. The jumping from one extreme temperature to the other is one of the great things about the desert, shorts and the river during the day and a fire with a blanket at night
It was a fun experiment. I do wish there were less fire restrictions because I would've left the growler near the fire pit overnight to keep it warmer. But wildfire risk is super high right now, so we basically had to cook and then snuff the fire each time.
Glad you guys enjoyed your trip! I've been needing more cool trips like this in my life. MEAD ICE!
Now that we've really bolstered up our gear, we're thinking about doing it quarterly. It was so relaxing!
@@DointheMost let's make this post blow up on vanlife pages, I'ma share it to the few I'm in.
Really fun idea!
We really enjoyed it - and it's a wonder the ferment finished given those very cold nights!
Yeah that kveik is a magical thing!
Next time I’ll go camping I’ll try this too! Thanks for inspiring us and nice to see you had such a good time.
Glad you enjoyed it!
LOL! Leave it to you to be in the complete backwoods and you still bring Go Ferm.
Never leave home without it. ;)
What a great trip to the southwest. I’ll be definitely trying my hand at a camping trip hydromel. Cheers 🤙🏼
Do it!
Sweet shorts!!
Glad you like them! haha
@@DointheMost reminds me of the 90s hahaha
@@DointheMost real Rocko's Modern Life vibe.
I was thinking Saved by the Bell, but now I think you're right about Rocko!
Think ebola - you’ll never forget the name
Pneumonic devices are my jam
Neat concept! Would try it where I am but it's more likely to freeze than ferment in Scotland :')
You talked a while ago (on stream maybe?) about how y'all batch label your brews with like vistaprint shipping labels iirc? It seemed like a good idea but I can't remember or find anything more about it, any chance you could help me out with your labelling technique?
It’s in our Top Ten hacks video. Should be these ones: www.vistaprint.com/stationery/return-address-labels?GP=09%2f11%2f2020+20%3a59%3a10&GPS=5769557147&GNF=1
Cloudy mead? Doesn't bother me!
Typically I’m a stickler for clear mead, but in this case I wasn’t being picky haha
5 gallon glass carboys are only $27.54 at Packaging Options direct. And free shipping when you spend $149+
Good tip! This was part of a broader order with some specialty yeasts so it felt right to lump everything together in one go. :)
@@DointheMost makes perfect sense, I know I'm always looking for the best deal, so I wanted to share.
CJ Botticelli Believe me I made a note of this comment ! Haha
Lol I live next to the cibola National forest
We were in your neck of the woods!
Is it really cool but I think I would probably use a plastic bottle in the wild. Like a 2 l soda bottle.
