I'm curious as to what you plan to watch next after you finish Rebels? I'm trying to think chronologically and I'm wondering if it is the show Andor? Season 2 of Andor is coming out sometime this year. So maybe season 1 and then season 2 of that show? Or do you have a different plan?

I love Kallus's story arc -- he opens the series as a died-in-the-wool hardcore dogma-spouting Imperial ISB agent, and now, four years later, he's a vital part of the Rebel Alliance's intelligence gathering efforts and tactics.

He was probably an MVP for training Rebellion agents.
He'd know how to infiltrate the Empire and how they'd respond.
I could see him becoming the Rebellion 's version of Admiral Yularen.

So often, they make someone redeeming themselves die for a cause. It's much harder to keep living for it.

So, fun fact about the two Death Stars the Empire built:
The first Death Star took around 19 years to be built, where as the second one, slightly bigger even, took 4 years to be around 70% complete.
Now, you may ask "How did the second Death Star get completed so incredibly quickly?" But the ACTUAL question to ask is "Why did the first Death Star take so long to be built?".
The first Death Star was a project clouded in secrecy of the highest level, it was a completely new project never made prior, and due to the secrecy of the project, resource allocations had to be limited and spread out, as not to create suspicion. This, cobbled with sabotage attempts, secret, hard to reach and strictly controlled construction sites, not to mention a myriad of delays, caused the first Death Star to likely take around 4 times longer to build than it could have taken. The Second Death Star by comparison, though also secretive, had a myriad of benefits that the first one lacked. The resource allocations were likely increased, which quickened the construction, it was located in a easier to reach area for Imperial supply convoys, it did not suffer from sabotage attempts or delays. Additionally, the people constructing the Second Death Star already knew how to build it, even if it was slightly larger too. This is how the first Death Star took so long to build, where as the second Death Star likely would have been completed in 4 times less time.
Additionally, the people working on the Second Death Star even managed to give it significant upgrades to both it's defensive and offensive capabilities. The planetary shield, capable of protecting the station from incoming fighters or incoming fire, with a shield generator on the surface of Endor's forest moon. And in terms of firepower, the first Death Star needed to recharge every 24 hours before it could fire again, the Second Death Star could fire basically every 3 MINUTES by comparison!

The dramatic reunion on Yavin was because it's been a few months since the whole team was together.
The team had split immediately after Season 3, as Hera/Zeb/Rex/Kallus went to Yavin with the remainder of Phoenix Squadron, while Ezra/Sabine/Kanan/Chopper and the Wren clan went to Mandalore.

Timeline Information: 1BBY - 1 year before A New Hope
Additionally, if you look at this date and the events of the episode, you'll see that Thrawn was absolutely right.
After obtaining information about the Death Star, the Rebellion immediately attempted to destroy it.
All the money, resources, time, everything was lost.
This is precisely why Thrawn wanted to implement TIE Defenders and potentially other projects that utilized the Empire's strengths: its numbers and an excellent pilot training system.
The Empire always had more soldiers, and TIE pilots-especially squadron leaders-were often outstanding, highly skilled aces even before facing the Rebellion.
For example, during the Battle of Endor, TIE pilots inflicted the heaviest losses on the Rebellion. If they had been given TIE Defenders, perhaps the outcome could have been different. However, I remain skeptical because, by that point, regardless of whether the Empire won at Endor or not, the Empire was doomed.
    But conclusion is clear:
The megalomania and ego of Tarkin and Palpatine directly contributed to the Empire's downfall and were its greatest mistake. Had Thrawn been in Tarkin's position, the Empire would have survived, as the Death Star would likely never have been built.

Mon Mothma says something very important: "We are not ready."
This shows that the Rebellion learns from its failures and will avoid direct confrontations, especially with someone like Thrawn.
From this perspective, it will be fascinating to observe Thrawn’s moves because the Rebellion has given him a new card to play: time.

We can ask: What if Saw had somehow prevailed and become the leader instead of the main Rebellion?
The more I think about it, the more the word anarchy seems fitting. Saw might have tried to establish some form of governance, but it would likely have been a tyrannical dictatorship. However, I don’t believe he could create any functional system of administration or management, so it would inevitably lead to chaos.
This is similar to what happened on Coruscant (at least in Legends) after the fall of the Empire and especially after the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. The government existed on paper, but in practice, gangs ruled the streets.
Ezra’s motivations are easy to understand. He sees Saw as a visionary who takes action and believes Saw might even help him liberate Lothal.
Here lies a common problem that has often driven Jedi to their downfall: strong attachments that blind them.
Logically, if they were to attack Lothal now, Thrawn would be ready. Ezra has to accept that Lothal might remain under Imperial occupation for years and that he may not be able to help actively. However, by assisting others, he could indirectly help the people of Lothal.
Sabine, as always, is more complicated.
Let’s start with the classic: she’s a Mandalorian. She has the spirit of a warrior, and hiding feels like cowardice to her.
Additionally, as you pointed out, she doesn’t think collectively. Sabine is an independent artist, someone who values her own judgment above all else. Her focus is on her perspective, which makes teamwork in a larger group difficult for her. (There may even be a touch of egoism here.)
When you combine these factors, you get a Mandalorian who simply wants to fight, ignoring the bigger picture.
    8:49
This is one of the more intriguing scenes for me.
Hera shows signs of paranoia here. She doesn’t know what to believe because they barely survived.
It’s possible she analyzed the battle to understand Thrawn’s tactics and realized that he could have killed them all.
Now, with Sato dead, she has to step into his role.
She doesn’t know what the Empire, especially Thrawn, will do next-maybe they already know and will attack again.
If you look at her introduction this season, she barely survives with the remnants of her squadron. It’s just to much for her. Hera is mentally defeated but she is still fighting.

    • @benspiller
      @benspiller  28 дней назад +1

I’m starting to think the Empire only lost because they didn’t listen to Thrawn, like I’m starting to imagine what if Thrawn was closer to Palpatine and had his way in everything, no Death Star but a completely unstoppable army that no Rebellion could ever stop, really goes to show how much went into to play for Luke to win as it was down to Palpatine and Tarkin making mistakes.
Mon Mothma’s approach is super interesting, instead of striking again quickly while Thrawn may not have a plan, she decides that giving him time is best to try and strengthen themselves. Obviously either choice is bad and really when would the Rebellion ever be ready to face the Empire.
Yeah, Saw’s approach would never work in the long run, still thinking about what he can do after the Empire falls, his whole existence at this point is defined by fighting it so I’m half expecting him to drop dead like Maul when he no longer has anything to fight for. Any Government formed by him would lead to absolute disaster so it’s very good Ezra and Sabine learned his methods are not good.
Love how this basically explored the darker sides of Ezra’s attachments, this show does such a good job at showing the positives and now the negatives. He is so tired of waiting and wants to act now out of love for his home so of course he’d gravitate towards Saw who offers quick results, but this serves another good lesson for him as he sees if he acts too quickly it could all end in disaster.
Sabine’s approach to this was really good, I keep forgetting how young she is as she acts much more mature than Ezra, but this showed off the Mandalorian and Artist in her which pulls her to Saw. It’s just nice to see her develop alongside Ezra in these situations as they will no doubt become leaders after the fall of the Empire so it’s nice to see them get these lessons.
Hera is such a strong character, this was an amazing depiction of how she just never gives up and that when she refused to surrender to Thrawn, she meant it. She is so mentally drained and defeated but she still keeps going until her body can’t. It makes her even more amazing seeing this with how she is both defeated yet still just doesn’t stop and I hope it does help her in the future and that she can go up against Thrawn more carefully and come out victorious.

The Death Troopers are an elite part of the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps. these guys are cybernetically enhanced and are trained in a myriad of operations their most mundane tasks are guarding VIPs, special assets and installations. These guys are the Imperial equivalent of Republic Commandos. Their helmets have volcanized scramblers that can be switched on or off allowing them to talk to each other without fear of eavesdropping. Their equipment, weapons, and armor are also more advanced than the typical Trooper loadout.
It has been almost a year since the Specters found Saw on Geonosis and he has gone quite mad since then. As you can see exposure to the gass the Empire used to kill the population has destroyed almost 20% of his lungs, and he's getting worse. Soon he will need a breathing apparatus similar to Darth Vader. Not to mention the phycological effects it had on him. During the time jump, he had already been expelled from the Rebellion and is fighting his own war with his own partisans. I mentioned to you before what he did that got him excommunicated. Though he still has the equipment he was given since the movement started almost 6 years before. From the tried and true Z-95 headhunter, to the T-65 X-Wing and now the Incom U-Wing a mid range hyperdrive equipped troop transport/ gunship. Though it is nowhere near as effective at battlefield deployments as the Republic LAAT, or the Empire's LAAT/LE.

To correct another comment I saw: the Death Star was not hiding offscreen in this episode. The shadow was from the star destroyer as it wasn't too far away. Also it would be nearly impossible for a moon sized space station to be offscreen and yet still be close enough to project its shadow onto the freighter. AND we don't see it in any of the other shots when Ezra and Sabine escape. AND we know where the Death Star was at this time and it was not in the Tanis sector.

The Death Trooper Commander with speaking lines was voiced by Jennifer Hale, having returned to voice a Star Wars character since Clone Wars at the time. Course they gave her the Death Trooper to voice, since the black armor is similar to Commander Shepard from Mass Effect, who she voiced. Which was also why the Clone Wars characters' she voiced were silent during the second half of the series, as she was busy with Mass Effect 1/2/3.

To clear up some confusion, Luke is actually 19 years old in A New Hope. But you're correct that Ezra and Luke are only days apart in age. Each season of Rebels covers roughly a new year. So in the first season Ezra turned 15 and in this season he's around 18-19. So A New Hope is indeed less than a year away. Hera saying she doesn't know if she's doing the right thing anymore, is actually a good thing. If you are unsure if you're actions are the right thing, that means you aren't cocky and arrogant or stubborn. Means you have to clear your mind and think things out. That's similar to Thrawn. Not the "Am I doing the right thing" morally so much with him, but he is always "Hmm is this the right tactic for this situation? Lets try it and see, even if we fail, I learn..."

About delaying the death star construction: I think that the empire probably got more crystals, because if the ghost crew destroyed the only two, it would be very unlikely. For the construction of the death star, there are more components that are required for it to work and at this point, we don't know which ones are progressed to what degree. So, if the empire got the crystals, they won't necessarily have a complete death star and maybe, the death star requires multiple crystals (since there are multiple laser beams combining when it shoots). I would imagine that the first crystals were used for a testing phase.

1:50 - Yes, Yavin 4 (the 4th moon around the gas giant) is the Rebel base from A New Hope.
3:00 - Normally, those ships can come to a slow halt and hover to land vertically. But since they are so damaged, Hera and company need to execute an "exciting" landing.
    16:03 - His name is "Two-Tubes".
Saw has slowly moved into "Radicalized" behavior. Of course, it started with the death of his sister during the Clone Wars, but as you've seen here, he's gotten a lot more so since.
22:30 - You KNOW things have gone off the rails when Chopper is the voice of reason. (Been waiting AGES to use that line)
23:35 - Good guess... but you already know the answer to that.
24:48 - Damn, but you are good! Well put together. Kyber crystals are part of the Living Force, and can be heard by Jedi at certain times.
25:40 - Jedha is a place you will learn more about later on.

    31:30 - That ship is called a "U Wing".

Saw's progression has been cool to watch from a character standpoint but so sad when you think it's all because of the Empire and the loss of his sister that he's gotten worse and worse.
Loved so much that Chopper was actually the voice of reason in these episodes 😂😂 Really showed off how bad things got!

These episodes always bring back an old saying to my mind. "If you wish for peace, prepare for war." It is in that sense that both Saw and Mon Mothma are right about how this war should be fought. Obviously it's never okay to kill those who have already surrendered or torture people just because, but it's also very dumb to try and be a total pacifist when the whole galaxy knows that the Galactic Civil War is underway. That's a quick way to just lose. Avoiding a fight is wise, but it's equally important to realize that every war has battles.
Chopper tilting the dish and sending those troopers to their room isn't even surprising anymore. Bros just adding to his already astronomically high kill count whenever he feels like it.
Saws ship is a U Wing. The Rebellion would end up using these as small transport ships to drop troops or equipment, and then get out quickly. They were rare though since there weren't too many ground-based battles in this war.
Saw was cooking with his investigation. He was one of VERY few people to actually start putting the pieces together about what the Empire was building. Unfortunately the Empire was just one step ahead though.
Apparently a lightning bolt contains 300 million volts of energy and travels as 270,000 mph. Ezra blocked it like it was nothing. Mighty stuff assuming a cyber crystals energy is anywhere near what we have irl.
Sabine is very stealthy. Ezra is slightly less, but still very stealthy. Sabine and Ezra, pure unfiltered chaos. They couldn't be low-key if they're on a mission together of their lives depended on it. Which ironically, it kind of does.

The reason Ezra impersonates Commander Brom Titus is because Chopper has intercepted all the Imperial transmissions rather than just receiving them. So, he's blocking the communication between the station and the cruiser. Thus, Ezra responds to the cruiser, as Brom Titus, in an attempt to keep them from realizing there's a communications issue, fearing Chopper won't be able to run the bypass before they're discovered.
Even though I agree this seems a more risky move than letting Chop do his thing, Ezra's reasoning is understandable.

Ep 3 ah yes yavin 4 the rebel base we see in NAH Hera has to now pretty much step up and take sato's place since his death. the interaction between mon mothma and saw is pretty much anakin and padme's brain children fighting about how to deal with the empire. since they are both heads of rebellion that were started by or inspired by them. by this point Saw is fully committed to being a terrorist and leans into it to the point that if the rebellion really wants to gain support they have to distance themselves from him since to most of the galaxy Saw doesn't care about who gets caught in the crossfire weather its military or civilians its all fair to him.
Ep 4 well they definitely know the crystals are being used for something just not sure what. the building of the first death star was done in secret so it took almost 20 years for it to be built and finished. with the second one they pretty much did away with secrecy and learned from their mistakes which is why they have the planetary shield on endor. one of the reasons why it was a secret was that despite not really having any power the senate was still around and would possible fight back if it was revealed which is why when the first death start is finished one of the first things palpatine does is erase the imperial senate giving him complete control of the empire now that he can rule through fear. since he had nothing to really worry about when building his second one it only took about 4 years to build it since he didn't have to try and be all secrety about it. all he had to worry about at most were attempts at sabotage and raids on material convoys.
perhaps after you see rouge one and The force awakens you may want to take look at the forces of destiny shorts as by then most characters that are in most of the shorts will have been seen.

    • @TheTrytix
      @TheTrytix 29 дней назад +1

Well, UNKNOWINGLY responsible for the circumstances, who's ripple effects caused Tech's death. Tech was just at the wrong place at the wrong time, and had to sacrifice his life to save the rest of his team. Hell, Saw may have caused the tram the Bad Batch was in, to be a sitting duck, but Tarkin was the one who ordered the V-Wings to start firing at the Batch, causing the tram to almost fall off the hinges and fall to it's doom. Tech separated the tram so the half the rest of his team was in would be able to make it across, even if it caused his death by falling down alongside the other half.

Tye female Trooper in all black with green eye lenses is an Imperial Death Trooper.
They're kinda the "Navy Seals" of the Empire.
You'll see them again in your SW journey.
Saw's ship is a U-Wing- kinda a troop transport/gunship design. They can be modified many ways.

Feel like he should be already familiar with Death Troopers, since Crosshair was made leader of the first "elite" squad, then came the Shadow Troopers by Hemlock, later we saw the Purge Troopers on the Kenobi show, all of them with very similar design and special forces status.

27:52 Shes lucky that the Death Trooper's doesn't have the modified helmet (even normal stormtroopers have it)with they see through smoke ( It annoyed the fan base alot since in the lore they have it)
(If you search them up spicificly type Death Trooper since if you add *S* with the trooper you will just end up with the zombies)

This comment is to translate another I saw into coherent English.
Basically the death troopers not seeing through smoke was massively hated on when this episode first came out back in 2017 because you would think they would have thermal visors or something to see through smoke, especially since they're tinted green which would suggest they have some kind of advanced features.
Also there's a misconception about the death troopers being zombies. This isn't true, they're more like cyborgs or at least augmented humans. This is because there was a book in Legends called Death Troopers about the Empire making a zombie virus and it escaping. The death troopers of the current canon have no relation to this.

I need to see these guys in a better light as right now they've shown no difference between them and the regular Storm Troopers, with how they're meant to be they should have easily been able to counter the mist with thermal vision or something.

The death trooper commander in the second episode is voiced by Jennifer Hale, who voiced Ayla Secura in Clone Wars and Kyoshi in The Last Airbender.
Also, she has no significance other than being the villain of the second episode.
Speaking of which, one of this show's biggest flaws is the treatment of the death troopers. For being cybernetically enhanced super soldiers and the best troops the Empire has to offer, this show just treats them like regular stormtroopers other than their cool blaster sounds and mechanical voice filters. The only exception would be this episode, if only for the commander and her plot armor.
Death troopers become more relevant in later media, in which you'll realize that even a single one is an absolute unit.

One thing to mention, when you mentioned a map with the Nazi symbol, the Swastika over all the places the Nazi's had conquered....maybe you didn't know but the Swastika was NOT made by the Germans/Nazi's. They stole the symbol, it was around LONG before the Nazi's used it. The Swastika most experts agree that it started in India. At it's original meaning was well being, fortune and luck. Basically a spiritual symbol.

You can't blame Ezra for the failure on the first mission.
How high is the chance that you impersonate the one imperial officer that is on the ship right in front of you? There are literally millions of imperial officers.
Ezra either has absolutely cursed luck with this or you can say that the outcome was the will of the force.

Honestly, I get both sides point of view
There are time for half measures and there are time for full measures
But without a balance, there cannot be true victory
That’s why both sides are failing and why the empire are winning and why their strategies of keeping their toys a secret is working.
But as long as there are those who are doing what’s right there is a chance.
The massive amount of experience requires the strongest of lesson.

I think this was the lesson from this episode, both Mon Mothma and Saw are at two ends of the opposite extremes making things very difficult to get done when if they both went to a more balanced ground, they could have found this super weapon sooner.
