Figured as much but I find it hard sometimes to get the game to show me those indicator lines. Especially for my own troops, to see if the enemy has a front or side charge. Up to this point it is mostly guesswork.

To be honest I don't know. Could be. But it also seems like it has it's own set of rules. The description page in steam doesn't say and the info page neither perwahl.github.io/SOVLRules/ .
It comes with time. This isn't my first tabletop like rodeo. To be honest as long as the games is fun to you who cares :) Also just try a different race. Maybe the Dwarfen style is not yours :) maybe try orcs if you are more aggressive or abyssal if you need tanky melee.

I suck at this game... I can't finish level one with dwarves... but I am not a warhammer player... So I suck at this game
