    Solar Surge will teach you all about being energy independent and how to set up your home to run off-the-grid during an emergency. We empower families to take control of their energy generation and storage so that they will never be left in the dark without electricity.
    In this video, Joe reacts to ‪@TheSolarLab‬ 's presentation of the ‪@AnkerOfficial‬ F3800 and how it can be used for peak load shifting and self-consumption to maximize financial payback.

    I installed this unit in May. I have x2 f3800 and one expansion battery with a power panel. This unit is great my home is 2000sqft. I have it running my whole home from the hours of 4pm to 12am peek shaving. My 7kw roof top solar charges it in the morning and it repeats the cycle every day. I plan on adding more expansion battery in the near future. I was worried about the system not keeping up with my 3ton AC but it had no problem running that and all my other appliances at the same time.

    F3800 couldn’t charge when it was dispensing last time I checked. EcoFlow Ultra can.

    Love the commentary on this video. I've been looking at Anker Solix and other brands to complement my already installed 8.9Kw solar system. I opted out of the TOU plan from Southern California Edison, keeping my tiered plan. Based on what I end up using during the peak hours all the TOU plans would end up costing me more per year. Getting these batteries and the panel could put me on the TOU and drop my rate from Tier2 which I hit quickly with 2 EVs from $0.42/Kwh to $0.25/Kwh.

    A key point that wasn’t discussed in this video was the installation cost for the Anker SOLIX Home Power Panel. I’m currently trying to get estimates to get this installed and I’ve been shocked at how expensive it seems to be (I live in Houston TX). The quotes have ranged from $5,400 - $7,000. I was expecting something between $1,500 - $3,000. This is just for installing the Home Power Panel and a backup loads subpanel.

      Ecoflow sells something similar, the Delta Pro Ultra but they have a bundle with installation which is about $1,500.

      Plus the price of the equipment, which doubles that estimate. Saving $600 per year doesn't seem so good after all.

      Remember that the whole point here is if you already spent the money on the F3800 for a backup generator, you might as well should invest another grand in the HPP to get Time of Use saving that you can benefit DAILY, vs letting your expensive F3800 ($ you already spent) waste away in a backup scenario that might only occur once in a blue moon. So the presumption here is that you ALREADY own an F3800 and your original backup solution in place is a manual one of either a direct extension cord plug-in, or an interlock generator connector to the main panel, and THAT cost was already factored in and incurred. So now you just add the HPP to the main panel to take advantage of the Time of Use and the cost to invest in a fully automatic backup load solution through a sub panel for critical circuits was never part of the equation here in the first place because that's strictly optional with the HPP. It's much cheaper to hire an electrician to simply add a breaker in your main panel to connect the HPP and 2 CT wires to it, compared to having them also add a backup load sub panel and physically move all your critical load wirings to the sub panel on top of that. The later is where it'd be much more costly to install compared to the earlier. Installing the HPP and connecting it to the main panel via a breaker shouldn't cost more than installing an interlock connector to your main panel. Heck, there's not even any interlock plate required here, so the breaker can be anywhere at the bottom.

    It all comes down to battery storage capacity compared to usage. My 3kWh battery is not big enough to cover me for more than a few hours in the evening. I would need at least 10kWh of storage to cover me overnight from 5pm to 5am. I didn't know that at the time and now to add that extra capacity to my current enphase system is ridiculously expensive. Unfortunately I don't think these other batteries wouild work with my enphase switch and I think I'm stuck with the Enphase infrastructure (can't afford a Tesla powerwall 3 either).

    The better question is why I would buy the Solix X1 over the F3800 with Smart Home Power Kit. Seems like the F3800 does the job of peak shaving but with less installation cost since u don’t need to wall mount the batteries

    • @PhongNguyen-ov7jq
      @PhongNguyen-ov7jq 20 дней назад +1

      The F3800 solution is portable so you can take it with you for camping, or when you move. The X1 solution doesn't have that portability. And yes, also should have lower installation cost compared to the X1 as well.

      The Solix X1 has higher power output and more battery capacity. However, it requires a more expensive professional installation. F3800 is more DIY friendly.

    Does a 20ms handover from grid to battery when an outage off mean devices will not notice? do any of these solutions offer truely unnoticeable handovers?

      I've personally used the 20 ms UPS feature of the Anker Solix F3800 for my fridge, freezer, internet gateway/router, etc and it's not noticed by any of those devices.

    *only applies to time-of-use plans or where backfeeding is allowed

    • @PhongNguyen-ov7jq
      @PhongNguyen-ov7jq 20 дней назад

      The Home Power Panel is an AC coupled solution that is designed not to back feed into the grid when the grid is down, not any different than an AC coupled solar inverter solution that is also designed to not back feed when the grid is down. Both will shut off when the grid is down. Otherwise, both will AC couple to deliver power to the house, but only when the grid is up.

    Nice try to achieve this you will need enough batteries to power what you have on , on peak hors, so it will again take time to get your money, just like solar, it takes year to do.

    • @PhongNguyen-ov7jq
      @PhongNguyen-ov7jq 17 дней назад

      What you said still doesn't take away from the idea that if you've already invested enough in battery capacity as a backup solution to tide you over in a power outage, however much this capacity that you've decided on is, it shouldn't just sit there collecting dust, waiting to be used only as a once in a blue moon backup solution, but should also be utilized 5 days a week to save you money in a Time of Use scenario, if you're on Time of Use as well.
