Charlie Hunnam is one of the best underrated actors in the world! His performance in Sons of Anarchy was awesome as the anti-hero and then in The Gentlemen was such a great movie!!!
Mana Ashida, the little actress who did such a great playing Mako as a child in the flashback scenes, had difficulty pronouncing Guillermo del Toro's name, so he let her call him Totoro-san (after the big, friendly magical forest creature that befriends a couple of little girls in Hiyao Miyazaki's critically acclaimed 1988 animated film "My Neighbor Totoro"). That's just too cute.
I wonder if the elbow rocket is inspired by the anime "Armored Trooper Votoms" in which the mechanized armored suits would sometimes use the explosion of an artillery shell to propel a punch with greater speed and force than could be generated by the motors that normally move the limbs.
I really liked Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost in this film. He has the presence and the voice to believably deliver larger than life dialogue that would sound fake coming from most other actors. I read that an actor who can do that is called "king player," but I only read that once. I haven't been able to find that term elsewhere.
This is a great popcorn movie. Though if you have a good science background, you kind of have to turn off your critical thinking at the door. There's a lot of things in this movie that can be nitpicked. For example, Gipsy (yes, that's how it's spelled in-movie) is described as "pure iron, no alloys". Pure iron is the *LAST* thing you want to take into the ocean. It would start to rust within hours. (Actually, iron starts to form microscopic rust spots the moment it's exposed to air.) And we know GIpsy's height and weight. It's listed as 260 feet (just over 79 meters) tall and 21,980 tons. At that size and weight, it wouldn't be ABLE to sink... it would float in water. (I haven't done the math to figure out how much it *should* weigh.) Forget about airlifting it with eight helicopters. Even if it was just 1,980 tons, it would take about 150 helicopters (for reasons related to physics). World wide, we only have about 80 of the heavy-lift helicopters needed... Imagine how many it would take if the Jaegers weren't unrealistically light. And, and, and... if you keep over-analyzing it, you won't have time to appreciate the movie. Though if anyone wants me to keep going, I will. Just turn off your skepticism and enjoy one of the best "giant robot vs giant monster" movies ever made.
Actually a great movie!

Yup! It's one of the few shows I've watched multiple times xd

Nice reaction, but I think you missed a very funny POST CREDIT SCENE (like most of the people in the theaters and the reactors on RUclips). 🙂
