I have a Cessna 337G with completely redone IFR glass panel, and would not trade that plane for anything. The breadbox cabin design gives the best shoulder and head space and leg room is phenomenal. I have removed the most aft 2 (jumper) seats and made that space cargo friendly, so technically it became a 4-seater, though.

His health deteriorated quickly after it and he died just a couple years after it, he died unhappy and unfulfilled. Years later she is still around and will be for longer. the 310R is a great looking airplane, but I will always prefer my A55 Baron. I got her for $90k and while its expensive to maintain, she is solid and has done some amazing things for me. I won't ever get rid of her.
So glad to see the Cherokee 6 on here. My father owned on (3217W) in the 1960's. He said of it "That plane just wanted to be in the air". He and some of his buddies would fly to North Carolina from Massachusetts for a few days of golf in the spring. One of the other guys owned a Cessna Super Skymaster. My dad would take one of the guys and all the luggage. He always got their first because the Super Skymaster didn't have the range of the 6.
My man! This video came at the time I was looking for planes that would be able to carry family, have decent range and not break the entire bank :) i like the the last piper, single engine!!!
I used to work for a flight school doing maintenance on their aircraft. we nicknamed our 310 the death trap since it was coming in constantly for repairs and a general pain to work on.
Two big things missing from this video - avionics and engine time. A modern glass IFR-certified cockpit swings the price $30K compared to a busted, barely legal, VFR steam panel. Also, engines get overhauled about once every 2000hrs, and that can cost $20K per engine. So depending on how much time those twins have on them, that's another $40K swing. Paint is another $10K. The airframe is only about a third of the cost.
Plus you can check of if it flies or floats and, with proper maintenance, that should continue pretty much the same for many years. The remaining item can stop at anytime without warning, regardless of how much was originally invested. Just sayin'...💔
My dad buys and sells farm equipment. He went to an auction around 10 years ago and there happened to be a Piper Aztec for sale. That Aztec happened to be an aircraft my grandfather used to own. He bought it brand new from the factory in the 1970s without paint, and had it painted light green. It was a great little plane.
When you consider hanger, insurance, maintenance, repair, engine reserve, prop reserve, fuel, etc. you’ll quickly discover your per hour operating cost is several hundred dollars per hour.
One of the nicest things about the Seneca is the counter-rotating engines, no critical engine. Takes some of the stress out of flying a twin. Plus, they're just nice to fly.
@@Jimmeh417 Well sure, but in practice engine out is far less dramatic in a Seneca...though still dramatic. I'm fascinated by the DA62 and the apparent not-event that shutting either engine down in flight is.
Many light twins are available for little-to-nothing because their cost of operation is insane. They have massive fuel consumption, and double the engine rebuild cost. Basically, if you can afford the fuel and the maintenance of a twin, you probably don't have to limit yourself to only 100k anyways.
Great reviews. One thing that everyone in the industry never talk about though is useful payload. yes you can get 6 people in these planes, but how much fuel are you leaving on the ground? Mfg's almost never list useful payload...which is calculated at full fuel. The range with 6 people in these plans will end up being half since you have to stop for fuel and have reserves in IFR. You missed the 206/210's which can be had for under $100k as well. Still a great review. I am in the process of buying right now and cant decide on a 310 or Saratoga (little over the $100k range).
Your content and videos are great Mike. I missed these kind of videos...these are what made me subscribe and fall in love with your content. Happy flying.

Great video, thank you. Can you do one on 6-seater or larger amphibious seaplanes? The Albatross looks great to me, but maybe there are more affordable seaplanes that also have very long range. I would love to hear about that. Flying from Lake Ontario to the Caribbean by seaplane would be very, very cool. (Fascist escape route.) The plane could also be loaned out as needed to local communities for search and rescue missions, disaster relief or emergency evacuations. The Albatross in particular just looks like a very cool, versatile machine.
I’m surprised you didn’t include aircraft like the Cessna 206 or the Cessna 210 more that piper Saratoga, although that is pretty much a Cherokee six. Even some bonanzas can be found under $100,000 and sit six people. A Cessna 205, 206, or to 10, can be easily found under $100,000.

Good stuff amigo...one comment, avoid the Aztec Turbo Unless one lives in the mountains, .....jumping from 30 to 38 GPH plus the extra maintenance, are not justified. Great useful load though...and fun flying an unpressurized aircraft at FL180 ...with supplemental oxygen of course :)
Like, almost double. I'd stay away from the twins unless you've got plenty of money to burn. And even if you do - get a nicer/newer/faster single-engine. Possibly get a turboprop like the PC-12, but that's well into the 7-digit range
The added extra cost in license upgrade to multi-engine rating. As it can be an extra $20k-25k Dollars. That is an extra $10k+ from a single engine....If you ace it the first time out..
One way to reduce your operating costs is to lease the aircraft back to a fixed-base operator for rental. That's how my father made his Aztec work for him.

BTW, I would like to see more seaplane for 6 and a passenger model if possible. Thank you sincerely Erin Schlameus
Huuuge question mate I’m looking for a plane that can fit 4 to six people or a KUKA delta robot, servers and tools in other words big cargo or side door and a lot of load capacity, for cross country deliveries, based on this what would you recommend mate ?
The fact that they have "two different engines" doesn't make them complex. It's the constant speed prop and/or retractable gear that decide that. And the engines aren't "different". They're the same, but some twins are counter rotating to make them safer and easier to fly. So the left engine rotates clockwise from the pilot's point of view, as it does in a single engine plane, and the right rotates counterclockwise. Also, light twins aren't necessarily "high performance". Lots of GE twin engine aircraft only have 180HP engines, meaning you can fly them without a HP endorsement, assuming you have your multi rating of course. To qualify as HP, an aircraft must have over 200HP per engine.
Interesting... didn't know the last bit, even though got my HP rating for C-182. Although an HP rating is pretty trivial. The 200hp per engine threshold seems arbitrary anyway. Will stay away from twins for now. Can't see enough reason to pay nearly double per hour.
One of the biggest factors not even mentioned; pressurization. Although not a huge consideration for 4 place singles, for the bigger 6 place twins, service ceiling, ability to fly over weather, and altitude based operating efficiency is a huge factor.
Hey Mike. Am Henry from Uganda. What are your aircraft recommendations for someone intending to venture into cargo and passenger (both tours and charters), with quite a small budget.
Don’t understand why when talking about the Baron 55 that you kept showing the Baron 58 rear interior which is a completely different configuration and has double doors compared to a 55...

.....jumping from 30 to 38 GPH plus the extra maintenance, are not justified.
Great useful load though...and fun flying an unpressurized aircraft at FL180 ...with supplemental oxygen of course :)
Love it Mike.
I'm looking forward to flying with family .
What are the cost differences between single and twin engine in anuall maintenance.
Like, almost double. I'd stay away from the twins unless you've got plenty of money to burn. And even if you do - get a nicer/newer/faster single-engine. Possibly get a turboprop like the PC-12, but that's well into the 7-digit range
Can u find a Single Engine one please
Edit: nvm he saved one for the end
dude so-infomative.....keepit going
The added extra cost in license upgrade to multi-engine rating. As it can be an extra $20k-25k Dollars. That is an extra $10k+ from a single engine....If you ace it the first time out..
The Cherokee 6-300 is a fabulous practical bird. ❤
One way to reduce your operating costs is to lease the aircraft back to a fixed-base operator for rental. That's how my father made his Aztec work for him.
A 6-seater? Very few renters for that, I'd imagine?
Thank you for the great info
Seen your videos, and I like ten great job
Happy New Year 2021 Mobro
How did the Cessna 206 or 210 not make the list?
Great videos bro...keep them coming.
Hey Mike I'm Erin love your videos. I really enjoy when you show several models at once. Well you keep making videos. I'll keep watching. BTW I fly an amphibious seaplane . It's an ACK-62. I have an uncle on Canyon Lake another uncle at Lake Travis to friend down at Choate Canyon and mom and dad and friends on the Guadalupe River. Not the part where all the tourist go to Florida on inner tubes, but where the rivers wide in the waters deep so you can see why I went for seaplane.
BTW, I would like to see more seaplane for 6 and a passenger model if possible. Thank you sincerely Erin Schlameus
perfect for a family vacation!
3 years later you can pretty much double these numbers
Great informations mike/ thank you for your knowledge and time.
Huuuge question mate I’m looking for a plane that can fit 4 to six people or a KUKA delta robot, servers and tools in other words big cargo or side door and a lot of load capacity, for cross country deliveries, based on this what would you recommend mate ?
Appreciate your work 🙏 🙌
Useful video I wish you could advise me when I am buying my very first business jet
Great job buddy
One of the biggest factors not even mentioned; pressurization. Although not a huge consideration for 4 place singles, for the bigger 6 place twins, service ceiling, ability to fly over weather, and altitude based operating efficiency is a huge factor.
Hey Mike.
Am Henry from Uganda.
What are your aircraft recommendations for someone intending to venture into cargo and passenger (both tours and charters), with quite a small budget.
It's above the price range but a Piper Saratoga is a great offering.
Don’t understand why when talking about the Baron 55 that you kept showing the Baron 58 rear interior which is a completely different configuration and has double doors compared to a 55...
The last was th best!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Where are you finding these planes for that kind of money? Thank you I love your videos
