- Hi everyone, this is my cover of Song of Choice! I love this song by Peggy Seeger, and the arrangement by Solas (@solasmusic), one of my favourite celtic folk bands 💙💙💙
I’m really worried about how fascism is growing everywhere. Worried about all the people who are actual targets of their hate speech. This speech itself is violence, because it translates into violent actions and policies against LGBTQ + people, racialized people, women, and anyone out of the cis-heterosexual-white-man role, basically. Giacomo Matteotti said “Fascism isn’t an idea, it’s a crime”. He was an Italian socialist warning about the danger of letting fascism into institutions. In 1924, he was murdered by fascists, and we all know how history evolved.
Nowadays, some people try to justify hate speech and the existence of fascist parties under freedom of speech or democracy. I think this is one of the keys to understand how fascism gets into power: the passivity of the majority who are not direct targets of fascist violence. This is why I felt compelled to make a cover of this song.
Also, I have to mention the case of Pablo Hasél. He’s a Spanish rapper that was incarcerated recently for singing against the Monarchy. The court who did it comes straight from the fascist dictatorship we had here 46 years ago. Some of its judges are known to be former members of fascist parties, this is public information.
As it happened many times before, the police are responding with extreme violence to the protests in support of Pablo Hasél. So far, they hit a 19-year-old young woman in the eye and she lost it forever, along with many other injured and incarcerated people.

Fascinating song
It makes me think about both being alert to signs of problems to catch them early, but also maintaining hope of progress even when you can't see it directly yet.
Though as writing this i saw the description and love the song even more, i guess i now understand more of what the song is hinting at - we have to push back before it's too late, we're in this together, we can't let the fascists creep in like the weeds. 💚
Happy you like it :) I always loved this song (I knew the cover by Solas), but didn't realize about the lyrics since not long ago. I feel a lot of respect for people who fight against fascism and for justice in general with direct action (so puting themselves in danger many times, at least here in Spain where there's a lot of police repression), and I thought a cool way of doing something myself that I feel I can mentally afford was making this cover. Hopefull I can keep contributing with my music in the future 💙
@@IanFontova I respect it - right now my focus is studying up on stuff that's going on first and foremost, educating myself, and next step is figuring out solutions and steps to take. I do think though part of what we need to do is become more united, form more communities of people interacting with eachother and extending a helping hand to eachother, and help lift eachother up, part of this is building communes, which is one step to building dual power to challenge the current broken system, and lend more power to the people and workers, both for our betterment, and to provide more meaningful pushback to fascists, as well as the current parties on our side who are doing nothing but stalling. We can push back, but we first need to become educated, and then figure out our next steps 💚
(but also cause, while we should push back on the culture war lies fascists uphold, we can't waist our entire time arguing with people in clear bad faith, but direct the focus to more focused policy-based problems so they can't constantly try and use culture war talking points to avoid engaging with other issues - idk if i'm explaining this right)
wait, to clarify i hope nothing i said comes off wrong, or like ignoring issues of LGBT stuff or BLM, i just realized thinking back on this comment there's a potential for that to be misunderstood - i just meant we gotta cut through the bs of the rising right wing fascist party using only fearmongering propaganda of the rise of equality, because they have no other policy prescriptions, by learning to not forget the importance of the above, while pushing the convo in the direction that forces them to make policy prescriptions, i think it can out them more as the bad-faith frauds they are. (Also i'm trans btw)
also, to be transparent, regarding dual power and building communes, i actually lean more democratic socialist atm, but just recently have started to read some stuff on dual powers, and hear stuff on communes, so pretty new to it, but i think there's some good ideas so far i've heard.

@@akira1086 Nothing came off wrong, I'm happy that people find in my channel a good place to have these conversations :D And mostly that it feels safe for trans people 💙 I actually agree with you on everything 🤣 I'm not an expert on anything but from what I've seen I'd say the best way to fight fascism is doing it at as many levels as possible. Probably some are more effective than others, but I'd say the stronger antifascist victories came when action was taken in every layer of society and in every way possible. And totally agree on the importance of dual power structures 🔥🔥🔥 Individualism is what keeps this system together, so in order to tear it down I think we need to fight it both in our minds and in our communities to bring people together. I personally have a lot of work to do there 🤣 But I'm on it!
@@IanFontova Absolutely agree! it's also important that in the process we don't get caught up trying to do it ALL, by ourselves, for some it may be best to narrow their focus to a few specific things and go at it, but ultimately, we can't do it alone, and need to divide up our approach and the work so it's not shouldered on just one person, there's a lot of pain, misery, and problems, but we'll never solve any of it unless we learn to take it one step at a time, rather than trying to fight it all at once. Bit by bit, drop by drop, step by step, we'll push back, and form stronger communities, and hopefully help to educate people enough they can recognize the problems, notice harmful ideologies, and know why they're wrong and how to push back against it. One thing i'm planning on looking into is apparently a law was removed that cut down on propaganda, which could be part of why propaganda has ramped up so much, might be something interesting to look into and how to change that, because a fascist's most valuable weapon is not facts, they're not on their side, it's propaganda and demagoguery
