- Transmission fluid change is something that can make a difference in gear shifts specially when it comes manual transmission. Gear oil change is which is usually pushed for major service. This is a DIY video where we are going to perform gear oil/transmission oil change on the gearbox of 1.2 K series engine used in Swift, Swift Dzire, Wagon R 1.2, Ignis, Ritz etc. The recommended gear oil/transmission oil grade for Maruti Suzuki cars like Swift, Swift Dzire, Wagon R 1.2, Ignis, Ritz is 75W-90. The transmission oil/gear oil used is Eneos 75W90 synthetic fine gear oil, this one meets with API GL5 standards. The recommended quantity of gear oil for Swift, Swift Dzire, Wagon R 1.2, Ritz, Ignis is 2.2L for regular transmission oil change. As per my experience changing gear oil for the transmission used in Swift, Swift Dzire, Wagon R 1.2, Ritz, Ignis once in every 15000-20000km does make difference specially if you drive in city conditions and face heavy traffic which leads to frequent gear shifts. These frequent gear shifts in heavy stop and go traffic with clutch engagement and disengagement does put the clutch in stress and lead to heat generation which can effect the transmission fluid. In manual transmission the gearbox can act hard with incorrect gear oil grade or an gear oil which has lost its viscosity and extreme pressure bearing ability.

You should have used a GL-4 Specification gear oil GL-5 spec oils contains Extreme pressure additives designed to be used in rear differentials specially and not in synchronised manual transmissions.... If you use this in a synchronised manual transmissions it will lead to corrosion and oxidation of the brass synchronizers thus slowly eating them and over the time the shifts would also get notchy and at the end the synchronizers would have to get replaced... Hope you will certainly let the community know about it soon otherwise many people may suffer using this transmission fluid...

GL-5 has roughly twice the amount of EP additives compared to GL-4, which is why it is often used in high-pressure circumstances such as in a front axle and rear axle differential.
Sulphur/Phosphorus additives however have an unfavourable property: they can react aggressively towards bronze and copper. This can be disastrous for the synchromesh rings of a gearbox. Therefore it is not recommended to use GL-5 in a gearbox unless the manufacturer allows this.

As said in the video, gear oils tend to degrade in viscocity due shearing off by life-functioning (moving around in the box). If a thinner oil comes out that the oil filled in, it was already degraded.
Wining noises out of a hot gearbox point to worn bearings mostly.

I've always replaced the transmission oil on my i10 after every 40k kms and it has definitely helped to keep the gears smooth working well. 👍
Hyundais have the best gear shift feel so soft and easy, i have ritz petrol and gear shift is kinda hard.

I dont think so, i had Hyundai i30 and Suzuki Swift (european model not indian) and gear shift on Suzuki feels more tight and precise.

The Eneos gear oil used is API GL-5, It is recommended to use API GL-4 .

I was also facing this issue in my swift 2013 (44k) and after consulting in the MS Workshop also they denied to do and asked to do after 1 lakh kms but i didn't hear them and I changed it and drastically i felt the change. It was a huge difference. My gears were lagging so much but now almost all the lag has gone.

On my Suzuki swift 2014 MT, the manual recommends GL-4 75W-90.. GL5 may damage the syncromesh rings or the transmission..

Brother, Normally engine oil for swift diesel comes in 2.5litre pack and the actual capacity is 2.6litre. Will there be any problem if we fill 2.5 litres only?

I put Castrol 80w90 in my ritz Diesel instead of 75w90

Still unable to make out the input and output points. You can do another video for beginners to understand. The purpose seems to be defeated as the focus is on oil and it's make rather than showing the process from the beginning.

i have suzuki spresso. i having hard time how to drain the AGS actuator fluid without taking it apart. you have any suggestion?
If you open the car door on the driver side, the AGS fluid is sucked from the reservoir under the bonnet. Keep the Bonnet unlocked overnight, do not unlock the car in the morning. Open the bonnet use a syringe and small pipe to suck out the AGS fluid from the reservoir and refill equal amount back. Do this again once more the next day after few KMs use.
I had replaced Tranaxle oil with Elf. Its better than before. Should replace it every 20k-30k. It worth doing. It will last the syncro rings even with imperfect shifting.

Excellent narration and information. The factory filled transmission oil in the Kseries 1.2 lit engines is Ecstar, Made in Japan, to the best of my knowledge. A very high quality oil, no doubt.
However, not really a follower of the suggested “one lakh km oil change interval”
30,000 Km is a good interval, imho. No substitute for clean fresh oil of the correct specification.
Thank you for your wonderful video. I replaced my gear oil in my ignis 1.2 k series petrol which is the same a swift 73x 71.5 mm bore x stroke. The gear oil drain bolt went Full in but the filler bolt did not go fully in the mechanic said it's nothing to worry, does not the filler bolt go fully in, as I can see a few threads of the bolt, I felt its only half way through or is it all. Is the drain plug and filler plug for the swift/ ignis 10mm box head or is it 10mm box head for only the drain nut and a different size for the filler plug nut.please reply reply.

My personal experience with Motul Motylgear is fine but I am yet to try Ecstar so can't really comment.

Please don't use GL-5 in the GL-4 gearbox. GL-5 is used differential where EP(Sulphur and Phosphorus) additives are high compared to GL-4. The side effect of using GL-5 in the gearbox is it slowly corrodes/react with Brass and Copper.
Please check for ASTM D130 of GL-5 and GL-4 before using it in the Gearbox(Refer to your Car manual).

Can changing the gear oil solve the issue of vibrations when moving in first gear at cold start ?
My swift has this issue where starting out after a cold start in first gear, I experience vibrations through the body. It goes away after a few minutes though.

Turns out it's a clutch issue. The problem does not occur if your dump the cluch 7-10 times at idle at cold start in neutral.

Its a tight space with horizontal filling inlet that requires either an oil pump or long flexible neck funnel that comes from the top engine bay.

Dude I like your video. But using a GL-5 oil in a trans which is designed to run on GL-4 will significantly destroy the gearbox shifting. In older gearbox this will be much pronounced. I was ready to overhaul my trans after using wrong oil. However, luck favored me and switching to the GL4 solved my shifting problem almost immediately. Do some research and make a new video. Ppl believe u. And u should convey the truth.
