    Note: submarines are highly unlikely to be following a SAG. They're much more likely to be ahead of you to lay in ambush. Chasing means moving relatively quickly which = noise. A submarine ahead of you can move extremely slowly and stay quiet.
    Not an impossible scenario as a sub may be shadowing the group to pass positional information to other forces. However, a submarine attack is more likely from either beam of your expected path, in this scenario, more likely from the seaward side as Soviet subs would be wary of Norwegian diesel/electric subs on the land ward side.

    Thanks for posting these videos! As you say, the attention to detail is impressive, but I noticed that they've depicted Vandegrift (FFG 48) as a short-hulled Perry class rather than the long-hulled version. The difference is not just aesthetic, since the long-hulled ships had better helicopters (Seahawks) and a towed array sonar. Based on what we've seen so far, I'm hopeful that the developer will fix in the final version or future patches.

      Yeah that needs fixed. I was on the (Nicholas FFG 47) and it had both countermeasure and towed system spaces/ports, so I figured the Vandergrift did, too. It was stationed on the other end of the country so I never saw it, but I'm certain it had both of those systems for its (relatively) meager defenses. It should have also had a pair of Mk 38's port and starboard aft main deck, along with other small caliber weapons on mounts.

      We're aware of it and will get to it once we get around to adding the Seahawk. I still need to fix all the hull numbers on the OHPs to use the correct font too.

      @@georgea5991 Ha! I was aboard Nicholas for a month in the summer of '93, and later served on Kauffman (FFG 59) from '01-03. You're correct that Vandegrift would have had both the towed array and decoy ports in the stern. But the Mk 38s might not have been fitted during the Cold War era.

    this is definatly the type of naval game ive been waiting for. the freedom you get in the formation editor, the IFF system, the Cold war/modern setting especially. Im going to be spending hours on this game.

    The only thing missing from the helo launch on the Perry class is the flight deck nets, aft flag staff and the 4x aft HF whip aerials lowering. So looking forward to playing this, spent 12 months posted to HMAS Adelaide (Perry class) in the Royal Australian Navy

    The ohp/knox combo was one of the classic learning scenarios vs osas in the Harpoon miniatures game back in the day. Nostalgia!

    That second harpoon on the last missile boat hit right on the ASM launchers. That ship would have been utterly disintegrated IRL. The fireball would have visible for miles.

      I think there was a bug in the current version that makes some ships nigh invulnerable

      I doubt it’s due to a bug. The missile boat was obviously destroyed in game, but I doubt the game engine is designed to model a real catastrophic kill when a ship’s missiles explode.

      So im not in the navy im in the army so i don’t know much about sea combat but wouldn’t u want to keep your units close to each other so there in each others protection bubbles?

      “Close” is a relative term in naval combat. A battlegroup is going to have hundred of yards between ships most of the time.

Those didn't come around until 2013--hell, the only Perry's to even get SM-2 compatibility were Australia's, and they only got around to that upgrade in the late 2000s--and this is a Cold War scenario, which means the crummy old SM-1 is the best a Perry can offer against aerial threats. And would you look at that, that's the missile the game models it as having, shocker.

      And really, VLS doesn't provide that much of a fire rate increase. What it does, however, is by being more compact, allows a ship to carry much more missiles.

    Been watching a lot of these videos from you and others the last few days and one thing i've been really surprised with is the visual detail, there were moments when you could see the explosions of the missiles in the distance and just they way they were reflected looked fantastic, then add on the damage detail as well it just all looks good.

    Great to see a more complicated scenario than what the other folks who've gotten early early access have been showing. No experience with simming modern navel OPs so it's very interesting to see how you setup the helicopter screen etc. Can't wait for release, game seems excellent.

    I can't recommend P Gatcomb's channel enough -- He's a Command Modern Operations expert, and I believe that game also played a huge inspiration to sea power. He has excellent videos explaining ASW strategy, and and general modern naval combat tactics. There is an emphasis on longevity in naval combat, i.e. holding some helo's in reserve to prolong your combat effectiveness.

    There was a game once - Dangerous Waters. It was pretty much the same, though it looked not even remotely that good as Sea Power. But I do remember spending hours on trying to find single sub with several helicopters. So much fun... though I never really won ;-P

    Man, i wish we could have this game but with dynamic campaigns where we A) fight with a single fleet where we upgrade and build more ships for or B) control an entire campaign theater with multiple ships like victory at sea pacific. A mixture of these would be cool too!

    Do you think we'll get to see empty shells ejecting from the ships main gun? I know the US Navy one has a frontal ejection port off to the side of the barrel and it would be really cool to see the autoloader spit out shells, its a small detail so its not as important, seeing the helicopter garage and arm launchers all working is awesome too!

    Attention to detail is neat but they missed lowering the deck edge safety netting on the Vandy during helo ops.

    Don’t know if the game allows you to but shoot harpoons in pairs one with top down mode active the other with it disabled so the enemy’s anti missile Defense has to stretch out to hit both.

    So the thing about LAMPS sonobuoys is that they're not really useful for sowing a barrier. They're usually for prosecuting and localizing a contact picked up by their host ship's sonar.

      There is an extensive list of ships, planes and helos they modeled in the game, including many soviet ones. ENIGMA made a video showing all the units in the game.

    I have a question
    From what I've seen, in game weapon control orders are different to those in real life
    Weapons Tight in game acts like Weapons Hold IRL, only open fire if attacked, or if been ordered to
    And Weapons Free IRL allows to attack anything not identified as friendly, but in game it works like Weapons Tight, allows to attack anything identified as enemy
    Does Weapons Hold in game makes AI not use weapons at all, even if there is missile coming at it?
    Maybe I'm wrong, I would be glad to get some clarification about that, thanks

      in some other videos, it seems that the ships dont fire interceptors even on weapons tight, but other times they do? i think there might be a different menu for allowing self defense or something

      It does seem that we got the terminology wrong. The current system is somewhat inadequate (affects all weapons on the platform) and we are looking to make it a lot more useful.

    There really is no need to emit radio waves since it will give out your location. I don’t know if the scenario is affected by them. In this scenario you could relay on Mk-II eyeballs and periodically use the radar on the helicopters.

    Might be nitpicky but that AS-7 (Kh-23) hitting your ship should have missed. As far as I know those missiles aren't inertially or otherwise stabilized in their flight path and need to be continuously guided manually by the pilot. Since you've shot down the MiG-23 guiding it several seconds before the impact, that missile should have nose dived into the water I think.

      the missile is guided through beam riding, but if I remember right the pod providing the beam mounted aboard the MiG does have genuine stabilization so the MiG losing stability wouldn't prevent it from flying straight so long as the target was within the pod's angle limits. still, you can see in the video the Kh-23 appears to be actively tracking the target rather than simply flying straight, which would be impossible without continued input from the pilot

      It's something the team is aware of, but it's not currently possible to move those windows outside of the game. they are styled to look like the windows we are familiar with

    Seems like a lot of micromanagement. It wouldn't be so bad if you only controlled a single vessel like in CW but it seems like it could become very hairy to manage pretty quickly. Looks beautiful though.

    those missile launchers are cool, but damn are they slow to actually fire. Feel like ships with those single launcher systems are gonna be really frustrating when it comes to fast reaction stuff like low flying jets

    Is the U.S. flag correct? I swear every time we get a decent look at it, it looks like a 48-star flag. Unless the scenario takes place before July 4, 1960, it should be the 50-star flag

      Same as cold waters but with a focus on surface vessel action as well air to air and escorts.

    Why immediately activate air search radars? In all the recent streams I've been seeing, i have a feeling that people don't understand that emitting immediately equals being spotted

    Great to see the game but it's sometimes painful watching bros reaction time. Not saying I won't watch more but my guy took so many risks with the Perry cruiser I thought for sure they were gonna wreck it. We won't even talk about the helis.

    When you are being attacked, turn off weapons tight and go to weapons free. I have seen every youtuber who has showcased this game lose ships simply because they choose either not to react in a timely manner, or because they don't know that their ships won't react with weapons tight until the last second. It gets quite aggravating to watch.

      Weapons free wastes missiles, and in this case I was just unlucky my Standards didn't get the job done. :( I possibly could have made the Knox class weapons free, but definitely not the OHP

      Try cold wars! It's a slightly older game from the same devs. I love that game. Perfect mix of deep realistic mechanics with arcade controls

    If DEVs are looking at comments on your page, just a small point…
    You mentioned… gushed about the attention to detail, however the moon and sun were up, but the moon wasn’t “lit” correctly from the sun.
    Was lit like the sun was in a different place.
    Little things like this all add up to subconsciously ruin the emersion the rest of the awesome detail was creating.

    Everything is looking great about this game…except the air AI. Pretty much universally bad in every play through I’ve seen so far.

    This is about the fifth video I have seen on this game and I have not yet once seen the player lose. Is this possible, because if not the game is either unbalanced or has crap AI.
    I want to like this game, but so far it just looks like shooting fish in a barrel.

      @rags417 Most scenarios are set up to be easy at the moment but there are a few much more difficult. That being said most people who have their hands on the game are very good.
