Actually when a toad /frog closes their eyes this crushes /kills the live food before entering the stomach so live food cant try to eat through the stomach lining . Also like you said closing the eyes also pushes food down to stomach.
Also, if you have a nice perch for a green tree frog to sit on and a nice large moth, try this: Have the frog sit on the perch and hold the large moth so it can flap it's wings. Wave the moth around in arcs that suggest the frog could eat it if he opens his mouth. You might be lucky enough to see the frog open it's mouth wide and wave it's pink tongue up and down, thus showing a large white plate under his tongue which should have teeth-like indentations on it. It would be very interesting indeed to see if you can capture this. Use high-speed video capture and slow-motion playback if you have them available. Don't keep him waiting too long, some frogs might jump at the moth to eat it!
The reason I ask this is because this actually happened in our kitchen in our old house once, before we had to move due to changes in circumstances. Unfortunately I have no footage as it was before video camera technology really got popular and small enough to be easily held and carried.
