In the 1970s, when I was a teenager, I saw them perform in person. There were all kinds of wonderful skaters but the speed of this pair was unbelievable! It’s hard to see on camera but they were so fast you could not believe it! Fantastic.
They inspired me to skate, jump and to do tricks with skates. I love their example. I am now 52 and still in good shape. Thank you Alexander and Irina!

Unfortunately in this Olympics (2014) people are not remembering the greatness of this pair and their accomplishments. Rodnina & Zaitsev were absolutely legendary in their performances. This was at the height of the cold war but people were able (in 1976) to put that aside & focus on the beauty & the artistry.

I preferred her with Ulanov actually. BUT, it all becomes moot when you see G&G for the first time. Irina who?
Sometimes very old sports look badly outdated. But not in this case! Power, speed, synchronism was like shadow - even the jump combinations. Still almost unbeatable performance.

Rodnina might be a legend based on her number of titles and they might have been a great pair for their era, but Gordeeva and Grinkov are so far superior in every way that it's hard to take the superlatives seriously. 30 years later G&G remain the paradigm of great pairs skating. This looks clunky.
If all you see is the difference in height (which dissipated as they got older) and only pay attention to the throw jumps you know nothing about skating However, it's clear from your comments you know absolutely nothing about skating. You should stop typing.
