    Just got this ball yesterday and had my first 7-8 games with it. Ball motion's amazing! It holds the line on misses in but has sufficient push from the asymmetry on misses out. It definitely does not have the same traction as the TX-16 solid but this is where the control of the hybrid cover shines!

      @@CliftonDon74 Eh, I think it's one of those sounds better on paper things and isn't as practically impactful as it sounds. It's basically the same core that's in the Gem, and that core was from the Defiant that came out in 2012, just adjusted a bit to change the numbers. There have been several other cores that have voids where the thumb would typically go to preserve undrilled numbers, etc. More of a marketing spin than anything.

    I'm sure we'll know more come full review time with some comparisons but right now it feels like 80% of conditions I'm tossing and loving either the Journey (RIP) or the Hustle (M-M) with the rest covered by an older IQ Emerald and the Summit. I'm wondering if this would settle nicely without too much overlap as I'm currently fiddling with the last spot in the bag (plus plastic). The night road and Dark Code are just too Niche (REX pearl has shined/transitioned very weirdly). I was also thinking the new Road ball would maybe slot in there.

    I LOVED the TDX when I got it new and for a good few months after...and then it just got so weak that I felt like I could hammer it with surface and it would get back to it's shape for maybe a couple games. I picked up a Motiv Black Venom recently to fill that similar slot, and now with this ball I'm curious. Do you think it would overlap with my Black Venom too much, or does the hybrid cover of the Ion differentiate it enough to be a good alternative to the Black Venom on different conditions?

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  4 месяца назад

      Pearl, hybrid, or solid really don't mean much without the strength of the cover formula, so I'd imagine the Ion will be really close to the Black Venom.

    • @fizz0514
      @fizz0514 4 месяца назад +1

      @LukeRosdahl That's my understanding, but since we don't really have numbers to actually quantify this (manufacturers PLEASE) I don't have much better to go on. I appreciate the input, sounds like if something happens to my black venom the Ion might be intriguing but otherwise I should look at the bigger gaps in my bag i.e. something between my VEBO and my old Motiv Hydra lol

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  4 месяца назад +1

      @@fizz0514 Eh, quantifying something like that is virtually impossible, because first you have to quantify it and then you have to get people to understand it. When people still think that hook means backend, there's just no progress to be made there.

    I always enjoy the storm videos from you. I watched the live stream yesterday for the first time. Interesting. I did hear them say something about asymmetrical like shaping it, but I took no notice until you showed the actual graphic. I did not know it was an asymmetrical ball, very interesting. It seems like there are some things new but seems some familiarity. Now this may be a little bit of a rabbit hole of a question because you know the techn stuff better than I do, but I’m learning slowly, but surely this is supposed to be in between the IQ tour, solid and the phase II I think when it comes to strength? Again correct me if I am wrong. If this is an asymmetrical ball, how could an asymmetrical ball be a benchmark ball because you usually refer to that as a symmetrical solid? Not to mention this is the TX 16 and this is a hybrid interestingly enough I have the TX 16 solid cover stock on my phase II That’s the original. Once I finally learned what the journey is, that is the pearl so how does that all compared to this ball? It comes to the asymmetricals, how does it compare to them plus how does it compared to the IQ tour solid? what I heard recently and also currently if I’m wrong I heard from one of the guys that the lightning blackout is like a stronger IQ tour and the guy from storm are saying this is a strong IQ tour. So is it Both of them? In addition to that when they came out with the summit last year, that’s still a TX series but they made a TX 23 a hybrid also a benchmark ball. came out with the summit peak, which is the pearl still TX 23 that leaves me one more question for now and that is will they still come out with another summit with a TX 23 solid cover stock? Compared to do this new ION? Thank you Luke as always keep up the great work.😀🎳✅

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  4 месяца назад +1

      It should be a little weaker than the P2, little weaker core despite being asymmetric, and the hybrid version of the same formula.
      The Lightning Blackout isn't necessarily a stronger IQ Tour, the cover on the LBO is stronger than the IQ Tour cover, but the core is a little weaker, and from what I've seen, those things kind of offset. The IQ Tour is a lot more stable rolling, where the LBO is really sensitive to oil.
      I'm really hoping a Summit solid is coming!

    I'm 14 lb and love my Envy Tour. I love that the numbers stay the same for 14 and 15 lb... I'm iffy about the int diff dropping too .010 on 14 lb... should I be? And diddo on the price I've seen others point out. Way too much for a benchmark, assym or not

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  4 месяца назад

      A few points on int diff isn't THAT big of a deal, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Storm routinely does this though, the Absolute and Absolute Power had fairly weak covers on them, the Attention Star does, and those go for top price. This should actually be as strong as the AbP and Star, if not a little stronger, so if those are going for top price, I don't see why this one shouldn't as well, even though they're referring to it as a benchmark.

      @@LukeRosdahl The UC2 had some assymetry. A fantastic ball at a fair price. SPI has gotten out of line with some prices. I have an Outer Limits Hybrid that is like .051 and .015 or something for it's diffs... that was $155 undrilled. Any Storm assym seems to be approx $200, which is somewhat understandable, but that Lightning Blackout is absurd. High-end cover...well, that's great. Still not going to buy it

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah the Lightning Blackout is insane, I'm with you there. Just with this one, kind of par for the course for them, or isn't too out of line with what they've done before. Not necessarily disagreeing with you, just saying it's not out of the ordinary. B7 manufactures in Mexico, so quite a bit cheaper operations. However, they could still choose to charge the "going rate," but they aren't.

      @michaeljamrozy4299 4 месяца назад +1

      @@LukeRosdahl fair point. Honestly, I would pay another $10 per ball to have them made in the U.S... Some of it is just getting the ball that suits me best, as I'm not on staff. A ball like Eternity Pi, it's specs change quite a bit at 14 lb. It becomes more of a medium ball and I don't want to pay $300 when all is said and done for that ball. The B7 balls seem to have more balls where the rg goes up a smidge and there is no drop in differential. Some balls like the Archetype are actually strongest at 14 lb

    Eh, like you said, there are worse things to be than an Envy Tour copycat. But an Envy Tour copycat that's for some reason $30 more expensive? Between this and the Lightning BO, it really seems like Storm is out of touch with the fact that people's discretionary spending is down. Makes you wonder how they keep doing stuff like this, while B7 keeps releasing cheaper balls that absolutely nail it. Really hope B7 doesn't take it as license to raise their prices across the board.

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  4 месяца назад +5

      Part of it to be fair is that B7 manufactures stuff in Mexico, so they have a lot lower operational cost. Now at the same time, they COULD be charging what everyone else is just due to the going rate, but they aren't. I think part of that is trying to regain market share or the edge, because if they're making as good, equal to, or better stuff than everyone else AND they're cheaper, they're in business. The price gets people either in the door or back in the door, and then the performance AND price keeps them there.
      This one makes sense to be at Storm's top price point, I don't have an issue with that, but the LBO is insane. I don't get how making a slightly stronger Hustle and slapping a 25 year old name on something makes it a $200 ball, especially with just discontinuing the Journey, which is a stronger ball. Apparently they couldn't even give those away, but they think they can sell a weaker ball for the same price?
