I've now gotten my fiance watching u. She's my daughters mother, and after 15 year separation we r back together. Each of us during that time started acquiring gemstones, but opal became both our favorite, and was unknown to the other!!! She makes jewelry and I would LOVE and b in your debt eternally if u gifted me that matrix cabochon for an X-mas gift for her. Your videos have helped educate her and clarify TONS of misconceptions she had about opals, the different kinds and classifications, as well as processes. No matter what you are our favorite RUclips channel and we wait for each video with anticipation.!! Thank u for all u do and merry Christmas to you and your family!!!! PULITZER OPAL IS THE G.O.A.T.!!!!😊
These are all so beautiful. I can't honestly decide which type of opal I like the most, and I swear that I learn something new about opal every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you for that.
I have a new video that will definitely teach you something, Sarah. I planned for it to be out today ((Wednesday), but 2 weeks is not long enough between videos. (I can’t consistently do even every 3 weeks!). I will release it next Wednesday. I have never “stored” a completed video before.
Amazing video! Here's an opal superstition you might not be aware of: In 1829 Sir Walter Scott published a book called "Anne of Geierstein". In the book, Anne wears a talismanic opal that brings tragedy and upheaval wherever it goes. In fact, at one point the opal cracked and shortly afterwards, a character died. This portrayal, along with opal's natural tendency to "craze" in reality, made the public steer away from opal's for a few decades out of superstitious fear! It was only later when Queen Victoria's love for opals sparked a trend among the Victorian elite, leading to increased demand for opal jewelry and subsequently revitalizing the opal industry.
“There is in them a softer fire than the ruby, there is the brilliant purple of the amethyst, and the sea green of the emerald - all shining together in incredible union. Some by their splendor rival the colors of the painters, others the flame of burning sulphur or of fire quickened by oil.” -Pliny
This is a little off subject. I read in rock and gem magazine a story on quartz, the ancient romans believed that quartz crystals were ice that froze to hard to thaw. Amazing✌️
You are the most generous and entertaining Colonel in the entire RUclips universe. Thank you for sharing with us. I appreciate all your wonderful videos about Opals and Arrowheads. And the cats of course💯👍💯 Regards, Kenneth the Norseman 🍻.
Thanks a bunch, Kenneth! Always a pleasure to share the opal journey with you, along with a sprinkle of feline fun. Cheers to more adventures ahead! 🥂🐱
Dear Mr. Pulitzer, Thank you so much for your videos. I love opals so I've seen every video of you and Justin (blackopaldirect) and others. About a year ago I realized why not try cutting opal myself, so I bought my first pack of Australian opals and tried cutting with just a whetstone and sandpaper. Since then I have bought a lot of small stones, some of them were quite nice and I even sold one a few months ago. It's a nice hobby for me. Thanks and keep posting good educational videos :)
Love the character introduction (of the final stones), the cats, the jokes, the editing, the knowlegde and beautiful visuals of the opal stones. Thank you for making these videos.
Anne Chen … will you marry me? That was a very nice comment! You are too kind. I just try to be myself, and if I am successful, the videos will usually be pretty good. I’m working on one for release next Wednesday. Best wishes … dp
Sookie still bossing your pride I see. She sure is pretty. And feisty. Angel is one beatiful stone. I don't think I've seen matrix as lovely as that before. Sending you best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧
Thank you for the well wishes from the UK! Sookie definitely has a strong personality, but she adds some fun to the pride. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing Angel and the matrix opal. If you ever have any questions or want to share more about your opal interests, feel free to reach out!
@PulitzerOpal I've loved opal for many years. I do own a small piece of iron stone with trace opal in it that I bought from ebay along with a triplet cabochon. but anything bigger is well out of my price range. I do some silversmithing, but im not an expert. I'd be terrified of breaking and the opals I have if I tried to set them. Absolutely love your channel, Sheila makes me laugh, as of course, does your pride of cats. I'm always impressed with your polishing and the arrowheads you make so deftly always turn out as lovely pieces, even if heads do fall off 😉
Hiya Big D, awesome video. I WANT TOO ENTER THE GIVE AWAY. Well, the Crawfish went back into his hole, winter isn't over yet. I hope you have a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟 out!
Informative video as always! Stunning results from all the opals including those chips :D Something you MIGHT not know as requested: Out towards Nettleton's first shaft in Lightning Ridge, is a man who has an entire tree trunk covered in opal, from rough to finished gems. He allows anyone to visit for free and gives all visitors the chance to glue an opal to another trunk and make a wish, a fascinating man with a fascinating story. I had him right me a personal message in a journal during my travels in the Outback. One of the best experiences I've ever found myself stumbling into. & An opal arrow head, although ineffective (and stupidly expensive) to use for modern day combat, has a better chance of contaminating its target with opal fever rather than injuring them...
Well as everyone says, size doesn't matter...but in the world of opal it really does, his is definitely way over 10 feet tall! I have a picture somewhere on a post card he gave me@@PulitzerOpal

Hello again my friend. Love watching your vids. Well, here's something you didn't know. After watching yours, Justin's and few other people's vids for years... I finally did it. I have bought most of my equipment to start cutting/carving opal myself. I have spent a hefty amount on about 10 parcels, just waiting on some polishing equipment to arrive and I'm off. Thankyou for all the advice over the years. Really really really appreciate it.
That's fantastic news, mate! Congratulations on taking the plunge into opal cutting. Wishing you all the best with your new venture, and remember, if you ever need advice along the way, I'm here to help. Happy cutting!
@@PulitzerOpal Thank you and thank you very much for the offer. I may just take you up on it in the near future. You made a joke about cutting out all your opal scribbling and explaining, because no one wants to watch it. During that part I literally said out allowed, "I would watch it!" Quite happily, I might add. Appreciate your vids, always informative and entertaining and I look forward to more.
I am *so happy* to have found your videos. I just acquired 10 raw fire opals in rhyolite and had no clue where to begin. Thanks so much for the info and cat clips :)
Personally, I like watching you doodle on the opals because we get to see how and why you're cutting and polishing where you are. Once again the video was enlightening and funny. I would bet your wife has an opal collection to rival any royal family's.
Your my hero. I now consider myself an opal genius thanks to you and your sarcastic teaching method. Unfortunately I will never be a cat farmer of your caliber. The little badgered hate me.
Always great to see the ginger army playing in the background. I sadly lost my Ginger ninja a few weeks ago so it's nice, and sad, at the same time. That matrix cabochon turned out beautifully. Thank you for the video and I hope you and family are well. 💜
Sorry to hear about your loss, Lisa. The ginger army marches on, reminding us of those we hold dear. Sending you and your family warm thoughts during this time. 💜
You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the opals featured in it. If you have any questions or if there's anything else you'd like to see in future videos, feel free to let me know!
You don't know how much I enjoy a video equally showing opals and cats! Someday when I grow up I'm going to be a crazy cat lady, wearing a big a$$ opal ring and I will change my name to Shelia!
Entertaining and educational as always Colonel. I have to live vicariously through these videos after hand surgery - but I will be back :) I found a vile of my Gpa’s opal from the 60’s. Mineral oil will evaporate and turn black after 40 years if sitting in a metal file cabinet. Some dawn dish soap and a few good soaks , seems to be back to full color.
I'm glad you find the videos entertaining and educational! It's fascinating to hear about your experience with your grandfather's opal and how you were able to restore its color. Thanks for sharing!
That triangle one you called angel sure turned out pretty! I still would like to try knapping stones, would you be willing to share some of your knowledge with me as to the best way for me to learn how? I have a bucket of big chunks of obsidian to practice on and would be stoked if I could ask you a few questions about it, please let me know if you would be interested in sharing some pointers with me. I could send you some of the material as I have plenty in exchange for your wisdom, or the closest thing you have to wisdom, thanks!
Obsidian knapping, eh? Sounds like a smashing idea! I'll see if I can chip in some pointers. Just be careful - those obsidian shards can be as sharp as my wit on a Monday morning!
Thank you so much, @matthewsadigh9004! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoy the longer videos and find the explanations helpful. If you ever have any questions or topics you'd like me to cover in more detail, don't hesitate to reach out. Your support means a lot!
Ah, fellow opal aficionado! Glad you enjoyed the video, mate! Keep dreaming of that perfect opal, and who knows, maybe one day it'll find its way to you!
Did you know that I love you videos and opal is my fiancée favorite favorite favorite stone and she has collected all kinds of rocks since she was a kid. ❤ beautiful stuff!! When that arrow head broke I jumped lol
I just started watching your vids, and have recently subscribed. What you don’t know is that opal is my birthstone, and in all of my 66 years, I have never owned one. I would LOVE to own an opal ring and show it off to everyone. I think they are the most beautiful gem in the world. Also, parts of Michigan, including Detroit, are north of parts of Canada with Canada directly south of them.
Opal's your birthstone? Well, ain't that a gem of a coincidence! Hope you get that dream ring someday, Susan. And as for Michigan and Canada, who knew geography could be so quirky? Cheers for sharing!
Thank you for the support and feedback! It's always great to hear from viewers like you. Sheila says hello back! If there's anything specific you'd like to see or learn more about in future videos, feel free to let me know.
Thanks for the tip of on Rileys im gonna have to look him up and wow Shelia keeps lookin younger everytime i see her it must be the exposure to opals. Love the videos keep em comin✌️
I've just discovered your channel & find the process of bringing out the colors in opals fascinating! Can't wait to play catch up & watch all your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge .
Those opal arrow heads are cool! I got ripped off in Coober Pedy buying opal that turned out to be Matrix lol, the bloke gave me a small opal for free witch was worth more than the rest of the pack😂😂 live and learn!. Keep the videos coming mate, they are informative and fun...especially Shelia.
Thank you for the kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoy the content. It's an honor to be one of your top two favorite opal RUclips channels. If there's anything specific you'd like to see or learn more about in future videos, feel free to let me know!
I bet you didnt know that i am new to buying opal and i would be as grateful for a giveaway; as i am grateful for this free knowledge-met-with dry humor; videos, thank you kindly!
I guess since I know little to nothing about opal, telling you something you didn't know would be impossible.. Love your videos thank you for taking your time to try and teach peoples like me.
Always appreciate the videos, you may not know the impact they have on people. I myself have bought attachments for my angle grinder and started working on other types of rock (mostly fossilized corral from here in Alaska) in anticipation of buying a small parcel of rough opal to work on as a hobby. It is very intriguing to watch the beauty come out of the stones.
I love the lion's roar intro, lol. Did you know that back in the day people used calomel (mercury chloride) as a laxative. They took kilos of it with them on the Lewis and Clark Expedition and we can still track their journey by the high levels of mercury they left behind.
That's quite an interesting historical tidbit! Yes, calomel was indeed used as a laxative in the past, although its use has been largely discontinued due to its toxicity. The fact that traces of mercury left behind by the Lewis and Clark Expedition can still be detected today is a testament to the lasting impact of historical events on the environment. Thank you for sharing this fascinating piece of trivia!
Beautiful opals as always. I really enjoy watching the cutting and shaping, and guessing what the final piece will look like. Hopefully one day one of these might come my way.
It's always a good day when I get a notification from you, Mr P! My Andamooka matrix opal is nothing compared to what you have shown here, these are stunning 😍
You do beautiful work, love watching your videos. And I bet you didn't know I have twin grandchildren. Plus I keep all my opal for all four of my grandchildren
I just discovered you and I am so enjoying your channel. You're adding to a renewed obsession with dem rocks, especially opal! Something new to know: tuxedo cats' black and white patterns are deposited randomly as they develop. Also, in Japan, ginger cats are called "tea tigers" because the words for "brown" and "tea" in Japanese are similar.🐈
I love seeing your opal arrowheads. I’m friends with a world class knapper who’s teaching me how to Knapp. I’m on the hunt for a crystal opal that I’m going to commission him to make and then donate it to him since he doesn’t have one in his collection. Looking forward to seeing more of your arrowheads in the future. :)
Excellent video as always Mister Pulitzer. Should have left the additional footage in. We can never get enough of your content...you know this! As always I wanna thank you for taking Roys Rocks under your wing. Glad I messaged and brought attention to the collaboration. Y'all two are the best Opal guys on RUclips. Then Lapidary Dave for show videos rounds everything out. Justin is cool but his content is overpriced in it's endgame / always a gamble otherwise. You and Roy show every level of the game. That it's possible to get into Opal no matter your status in life.
Appreciate the kind words, mate! Roy's Rocks and I are here to spread the opal love far and wide. Opal for everyone, no matter where you're at in life! 🌈👍
Matrix is fun for me because you start with something nearly colorless and if you’re lucky, you get something colorful and brilliant. It’s like fishing and catching the big one … or it’s like the “surprise” inside of Cracker Jacks.
I love hearing you splanning all the details😅 and i would love to win either one of those beautiful stones . And i look forward to your next videos as well .
I have mostly white opal from Coober Pedy, but after watching and rewatching several of your videos starring some of your Andamooka matrix, I am quite keen on getting myself some. Not looking forward to do the treating myself, so I might just look into some ready made polished stones. Although I do like the reveal of colours you get after treatment of the rough stone. Well, maybe I'll get some rough after all. Great video as always! Thank you!
Ah, a fellow opal enthusiast weighing the options! Glad you're enjoying the Andamooka matrix journey. Who knows, maybe one day you'll dive into treating your own rough stones for that special color reveal thrill! Appreciate the support, mate!
I love that you go for the big pieces and get so creative with your stones! I was thinking a bail in the top of the kite shaped piece would make a gorgeous pendant, but would two bails make for a very large spinner ring? She could be grounded on a hand but flying with every turn.😊
That is just so beautiful. Telling you something you dont know. I doubt there is much i could tell you about opal so i will tell you something you may not know about me. I am a massive fan of humour. I like your sense of it. Have a super season.
Thank you for the lesson on matrix opal I've never known how to tell the difference until your video was so good and informative from the start and truly appreciated I've been in l9ve either opals since I was a kid because of their best and hiw wonderful nature is a creating its jewels and my opinion is they are more beautiful than diamonds because of the way the silica arranges itself and the colors a magnificent I'm goingvto one day be able to afford a decent sized one for my big fingers to wear as a man's ring but I think I'm going matrix if I can find one and aquire it but I'm in fla so it'll take some searching but please keep the video lessons coming thanks a million

Spot on, Anthony! We aim to entertain and educate, all while showing off those stunning opals and adorable feline friends. And Sheila? Well, she adds that extra dash of drama! 😄🐱
Paco is so patient!! Sookie looks like they just like to start things with the others. :D I love how your videos always inpsire me and make me laugh! You show when things go wrong and it helps me when my own projects fail too. I also love seeing your kitties because who doesn't love both shiny and fluffy things? My favorite fun fact is that opal comes in all the right colors and patterns to make opal bacon and eggs. My small goal in beginning lapidary was to take yellow opal, white opal, and candy opal to make a breakfast pendant or earrings. I'm watching for just the right piece of yellow opal to complete my "collection".
Yellow opal Hmmm. Thanks for the nice note, ms chat. Sookie is a troublemaker - completely unabashed and if things aren’t going her way, she attacks. Paco is the king cat and he just shrugs it off. The 4 of them are unlike any group that we’ve ever had. They do everything together. It’s like a “herd of cats!” I have never seen anything like it before. dp

Wow. As insane as this story is, if ever there was a mystical stone - it has to be opal!

You're very welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the opals featured in it. If you have any questions or if there's anything else you'd like to see in future videos, feel free to let me know!
For the experienced colonel followers... clearly the honking noise was the funniest part of the whole video! 😂
Colonel followers, unite! 🎩😄 Honk honk, opal humor in full swing! 🚗💨 Keep the laughs coming! 😂🌟
@@PulitzerOpal well can't win them all. My heart sank when the tip of that arrowhead broke off as well.
Thanks for another insightful video and helping us all to identify opal matrix. I love your videos, keep up the good work 😊
Glad you found it helpful, Nicole! Keep watching for more opal wisdom coming your way. 😊
Great video as always! Love the stones.
Glad you enjoyed the video, mate! Opals always steal the show, don't they? 😄
You don't know how much I enjoy a video equally showing opals and cats! Someday when I grow up I'm going to be a crazy cat lady, wearing a big a$$ opal ring and I will change my name to Shelia!
In the meantime, is it okay that I call you “S?” Thanks for the nice note, sheri
@PulitzerOpal I answer to anything starting with "sh". Yes, including that! I have no qualms about it!!
Love watching your videos you have a great knowledge of Opal you make me want to start collecting and cutting Opal
Glad to ignite your passion for opals! It's a fascinating world to explore. Dive in and enjoy the journey!
Beautiful stones yet again. Miguel is a beautiful specimen. My dog will be 17 years old in July! Have a great week.
Ah, aging like fine wine, just like those opals! Give your loyal companion a scratch behind the ears for me. Cheers to many more years together!
That is some nice cutting, my friend. That matrix is some stunning stuff!
Glad you liked the cutting! Matrix opal's got that special sparkle that makes it stand out from the crowd.
Great video as always sir. I love seeing the Arrowheads you make
Glad you're enjoying the show! Those arrowheads are like little pieces of opal history, ain't they?
They are, napping is an art form in and of itself. So easy to mangle a piece, but so majestic when it's done right.
Always very interesting.... beautiful opal... Glad to see you using treated Opal, wasn't sure if you did... It's beautiful
I always eagerly wait your videos and you never disappoint.thank you.
Opal anticipation fulfilled! 😄💎 Thanks for the support, user-pz3gi9im7b! 🌟 Keep shining bright! ✨
Amazing work, but you already know that. I guess I can't tell you anything that you don't already know. enjoy your kitty's and keep up the great work.
That’s good enough, moe
Entertaining and educational as always Colonel. I have to live vicariously through these videos after hand surgery - but I will be back :)
I found a vile of my Gpa’s opal from the 60’s.
Thank you for everything you do for the opal community
Those came out beautifully. Opal is one of my favorite stones,
Love your videos, the longer the better, do all the splanin possible! Love it
Thank you so much, @matthewsadigh9004! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoy the longer videos and find the explanations helpful. If you ever have any questions or topics you'd like me to cover in more detail, don't hesitate to reach out. Your support means a lot!
opal is my birthstone. sure would like to have one. thanks pulitzer! great video my friend.
When that arrow head broke I jumped lol
thanks for your videos and for your great sense of humor! sending greetings from the heart of Europe from the Czech Republic
Tell Touchy I still think he's the cutest. 😺
Touchy's the real charmer! 🐾 Opal cats steal the spotlight! 😄🌟
I say your videos aren't long enough. Love all of them. Heyyyy Sheila!
Thank you for the support and feedback! It's always great to hear from viewers like you. Sheila says hello back! If there's anything specific you'd like to see or learn more about in future videos, feel free to let me know.
Love all you do but I"ve always been amazed at opal beads and carvings. Natural things like opal clam shells blow my mind. @@PulitzerOpal
Thanks for the tip of on Rileys im gonna have to look him up and wow Shelia keeps lookin younger everytime i see her it must be the exposure to opals. Love the videos keep em comin✌️
Please do! www.opalauctions.com/stores/53frogs
Beautiful ,love the commentary
I've just discovered your channel & find the process of bringing out the colors in opals fascinating! Can't wait to play catch up & watch all your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge .
Break a leg, Kelli … oh, I mean have fun!
Live and learn, mate! 😂 Opal adventures never disappoint! 🎉 Sheila's always stealing the show! 🐱✨
This was a fun video. I bet you didn't know that of the two opal RUclips channels I follow, you are firmly in my top two favorites.
Another great upload. Thank you for sharing!
Cheers, Jason! Appreciate the support, mate!
I guess since I know little to nothing about opal, telling you something you didn't know would be impossible.. Love your videos thank you for taking your time to try and teach peoples like me.
Hey Lisa, glad you enjoy the videos! No worries about opal knowledge-everyone starts somewhere. Thanks for tuning in!
(He didn’t know that! He googled it!)
I just heard about it earlier that day in a Cody'sLab video. I thought it was cool. ¦-)
Wow I love your arrow heads absolutely stunning
Beautiful opals as always. I really enjoy watching the cutting and shaping, and guessing what the final piece will look like. Hopefully one day one of these might come my way.
It's always a good day when I get a notification from you, Mr P!
My Andamooka matrix opal is nothing compared to what you have shown here, these are stunning 😍
Glad to brighten your day, Trish! 😊 Opals never cease to amaze! 💖 Keep shining bright! ✨😍
Great color love the opal and the side entertainment.
Glad you enjoyed the opal hues and the extra entertainment, mate! Opals and antics, a winning combination!
Opal arrowheads and knapping adventures-sounds like a solid plan! Keep on crafting those beauties! 🔨🌟
You’re a great teacher. Thank you.
You're welcome, Sue! 😊 Opal adventures await! 🌟 Keep shining bright! 💎✨
Your videos never disappoint 👍
Thanks a bunch, Dean! Glad to hear you're enjoying them! 👍
lovely video as always, loved how you explained how to spot matrix opal
Thank you, Jade! I'm glad you found the explanation helpful. If you have any more questions about opals or anything else, feel free to ask!
Absolutely beautiful work as always sir! Your are truly a master at your craft.
Thanks a bunch for the kind words! Just doing my thing with those mesmerizing opals. Cheers!
Never been a big fan of matrix but angel got that 🔥🔥. Every time i see sheila i think of the 1987 movie the mannequin, lol.
Thanks for tuning in, Richard! Glad you enjoy the opal details. Stay tuned for more fun videos! 📹😄
Thank you!
You might try it this way, ruclips.net/video/0eiorGOTqJE/видео.htmlsi=1up3M693RxSPgj4A
Ah, a fellow opal enthusiast weighing the options! Glad you're enjoying the Andamooka matrix journey. Who knows, maybe one day you'll dive into treating your own rough stones for that special color reveal thrill! Appreciate the support, mate!
Great video, learn something new about Opals every time 👍🏻
Opals are like a treasure trove of surprises, ain't they? Glad you enjoyed the video - keep on exploring!
@@PulitzerOpal 👍🏻
Awesome video! I wish i knew the knowledge of opals that you forgot!!!😊
Glad you enjoyed the video! No worries, mate, I'll keep sharing the opal wisdom so you won't miss a thing! 😊
I love that you go for the big pieces and get so creative with your stones! I was thinking a bail in the top of the kite shaped piece would make a gorgeous pendant, but would two bails make for a very large spinner ring? She could be grounded on a hand but flying with every turn.😊
Beautiful stones as always!
Thanks a bunch! Opals never fail to dazzle with their natural beauty.
@@PulitzerOpal same with Sheila! 🤣
Opal fact: one of my closest friends named one of his daughters Opal. He instantly gained my respect. The power of opal.
That is just so beautiful. Telling you something you dont know. I doubt there is much i could tell you about opal so i will tell you something you may not know about me. I am a massive fan of humour. I like your sense of it. Have a super season.
Thanks a bunch, Cari! 😄 Opal love and humor go hand in hand! 🌟 Keep shining bright and spreading joy! 💎✨
Great save on the arrowhead 😅looks great! ❤
Thanks, Susan! Had to channel my inner MacGyver for that one. 😄🏹
Great educational videos as always. Thanks for sharing ❤
I've missed seeing your videos. It seems to be less often than it used to be. Glad you're back!
Thank you, @Kellishark! Your support is greatly appreciated. I'll do my best to keep the content coming. If there's anything specific you'd like to see in future videos, feel free to let me know!
Great job as always...informative, entertaining, great comedic timing and impeccably cut and polished gorgeous opals, with a side of cat videos...i mean who could ask for anything more?? Only a gorgeous bust of a woman with a flair for the dramatic named Sheila could make it better! 😉
Spot on, Anthony! We aim to entertain and educate, all while showing off those stunning opals and adorable feline friends. And Sheila? Well, she adds that extra dash of drama! 😄🐱
Just beautiful work! ❤❤❤
Glad you like it!Thank you, Pensoxgyrl! Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
It’s like a “herd of cats!” I have never seen anything like it before. dp
