  • In this Quick Tip, Jonas Pilz (@jonaspilz3d) shows how to simulate objects with proxy geometry in Cinema 4D, when an object's density is too high get stiff results with soft body simulation or when it consists of multiple sub-objects. You will learn how to use the Mesh deformer to solve this.

I'm very happy to see that Cinema 4D is offering more Houdini like tools for simulations. Keep it up!

    Great QuickTip!
Question... How do you simulate this softbody animation (with low poly cage) if you want to use Cloner?

Great question! Next week’s quick tip will cover exactly that.

Hey Jonas, nice and useful QuickTip, thx. How did you get the proxy? Did you use primitives >> the volume mesher >> remesher?

this tipp follows in 4 month :-) But I would go with basic good old boxmodeling. Hexaeder Sphere and the magnet tool to fit the shape of the cherry

@@simontrickfilmer Thx Simon for this idea: to clarify, do you mean the magnet tool in Model mode? Where I'm really just sculpting the points of the mesh? Thx in advance

@@bhavana01123 yeah. But maybe not so accurate 😐 or you have to activate snaping

I started with a sphere and extruded the stamp from it. Then, I used the Shrink Wrap deformer to match the low poly cage’s shape with the cherry.

Interesting, there is no simpler or automated way to making a lower poly model that’s slightly larger than to manually model it??

Hey Jonas, I have been simulating this with a hard object falling on rope. My problem is that the hard object (a piece of metal jewelry falling on a chain) is never static enough, there's always a bit of wobble. I'm going to play around a bit more today with the technique you just showed here. The way around I found was to make the hard object a collider body and animate it.
Do you think Maxon will have rigid bodied objects in the cloth system in the future?
    Thanks!

It worked following your steps! But decided to animate the falling object with the collider to make it look cleaner.
