I love my Raven. I realized I love how matte pens feel. But next to that Nahvlaur Horizon...OMG.❤ They just belong together!!!! UMM....you just might,...maybe,... probably,...definitely see that pen in my possession in the near future. STOP PEN-ABLING ME GRACE!!!
Right???!!! Those two pens look soooo magnificent together! And I sorry...ya girl can NOT stop pen-abling. It's a good/bad habit I cannot kick (not even if I want to). But do let me know when you get the Raven so we can compare notes (👈🏽 too much enabling?) 😬
Congrats on your first Estie! I’ve never been an Estie fan…but I AM drawn to the Raven with the ink window and piston!!! I DO like the Esterbrook Camden! Thanks for sharing your initial thoughts with us! I am *tempted* however…
Oooh Aubs....it's very, very nice, not that I'm encouraging you to get it or the Camden (I am 😬), but I know one of your other pens has to leave for it to come in so.....mmmmh 🤷🏽♀️
I love my Raven too! I wasn't sure I would like the matte feel but I do. I have the Estie in fruit punch and I just received the tortoise the other day. My esties have all been in medium and I love the weight of them in hand. I just love the amount of ink they put down that makes all the ink look so saturated. I'm curious to try them with lighter colored inks and see if they make the ink look more legible versus my other mediums. I really like the smoothness of the coated nib too. I just love writing with it and I'm sure you're going to love it too.
Already am loving it. I've given up with using light inks these days, medium and larger nibs or not. Just don't enjoy them seeing them in my journals. Ah well, to each his own. I do hope your experimentations with them works tho 🤞🏽
Pam girl......the struggle is real! They talk and talk and talk telling me all manner of things and I just have to put them in their place. In the case of pens....just buy the dang thing. 🤣 🤣 🤣
Congratulations on your new pen! I honestly LOVE my Honeycomb Estie with gold colored hardware! My goal is to get a gold nib for it, unless I get a second one. I’m trying to cut down on the number of pens if I can get a nib. I honestly love the black matte! And I’m so glad you like it! I may have to consider this piston filler! 😊. Thank you!
I too denied myself in joining the Estie club for a long time. I had a vintage Esterbrook J & enjoyed using it & then around Christmas there were a few being offered as a set, with several of their small notebooks, so I gave in on the Nouveau Bleu. I truly enjoy writing with it & I'm a sucker for a good piston filler type pen, so I will not say that a Raven would be out of the realm of possibility 😉. If I do get the Raven, however, I may have to then say Nevermore... 😂
The pen lives we lead saying "never will I ever" and then later having to take back them darn words we uttered. Ha! But I'm okay with the mess up cause, in the end, I have a pen I truly enjoy. Also.....get the Raven. It is really a beautiful instrument in all black. 😊
I love love love my Raven (and my other Esties, ahh!); you neeeeed the Winter White one to go along with the Raven one - and the fact that you can switch in and out Jowo#6 nibs makes them even more valuable
You Julia are a pure penabler, giving me extra reasons and all to consider getting the white Estie.......and I gotta say, I love it! That pen, btw, is still nattering at the back of my brain. Oy!
I just discovered your RUclips channel. Your review is spot on. Love your enthusiasm and joy over our hobby. You definitely have a new fan going forward!
Uh-oh. I love my Estes. Yes, plural and have tried their specialty ground nibs and love them too. I have enjoyed my Raven with Diamine Damson. Hope you enjoy your Raven.
I love the feel of a matte pen.. congratulations. Esties are my new fav thing. I held out for many years. It feels great in my hand and the EF nib is delish. Technically speaking I think this is a ‘button’ filler.
Ha, I kept messing up a few words in this video and you're right, the pen is a button-piston filler. One of these days I'll remember to put those 2 words together in describing the pen 🤣 Thanks for watching!
Woohoo! I still love my Raven. It's such a beautiful writer. My mission now is to find a few inks that showcase the nib best. Thanks for watching too 😊
This is the best review I’ve seen on this pen by a long shot. I found a raven piston at the DC Pen Show but the display model (the only one they had left) was all marred up. The kind folks at Esterbrook gave me a 20% coupon so I ordered the raven piston with a stub which arrives this week! Very excited to see how it performs - only worry is the longevity of the finish. Thanks for sharing your insights!
I understand not wanting all the esties. I also have one and am completely happy with just having the one. I have a lilac/silver trim (original release) that I found second hand last March. The Raven was such a smart way to market a black pen. I think the texture and black hardware/nib really contribute to the overall aesthetics. The only thing that could have made it more raven would be to include a feather on the nib or etch a raven there instead of the Easterbrook logo. The push button feature is fun too. Tfs!
Ooh Amy.....love that idea about the feather. Or making the clip into a feather. Any way it happened would have been icing on the cake--bonus in the bank and happy smiles all around for me. Btw, I have this thing with feathers, they flitter down in front of me all the time so I have a beautiful collection of serendipitous gatherings.
I must say, part of the draw to the Estie for me was the MV adapter. So the raven is lost on me. Ha ha. But... Don't you just LOVE a matte pen?? I am OBSESSED with matte finish right now.
Pen buddies! Great video Grace. I love the Esterbrook Estie because I find it extremely comfortable to write with. I find it perfectly balanced. By the way, @cerealnana told us that the adapter for vintage nibs also fits the Estie rollerball bodies. Have you thought about a Lamy 2000 in your future? I recently got the stainless steel version and I‘m loving it.
YES! Pen Buddies! Thanks Queens, I am slowly faling in love with Esties but still weighing whether I want any of the coloured resin pens. About the Lamy 2000, was never attracted to the black and left it at that. Everytime someone talked about it I was like...meh. Until I saw the SS version. Now THAT one interest me, though haven't put it on my wish list yet.
I have the Estie in Seaglass on my radar. 😅 I don’t know why I just love Seaglass so much and that just appeals to me. Love your videos. I also like the honeycomb.
That's exactly what wish list are for....to plan for it's eventual purchase. So excited for you and you haven't even gotten the pen yet. 😆. Also, thanks for watching!
The Esterbrook Estie wasn‘t for me as well for a long time. I wasn‘t attracted to it because of the nib design. The laser edged logo still isn’t for me. But finally with the botanical and rainforest finish and some plain Jowo replacement nibs I love them! They are so so beautiful to me now. 😊
I love that you found a way to enjoy the Esties. However we find our joy in this pen hobby is good plus, not every pen brand is right for us....at least not right away sometimes. 😆 Like you, I was not a fan of Esties at all and didn't think I'd ever, evuh change my mind....until I did 🤷🏽♀️
Hello Grace,Im thinking about getting this pen for my birthday this month, after all am a fan of Poe ,heard they had named it after his poem of the same name.
It's a great writer and the texture on the barrel feels different (in a good way) while holding pen. I decided to go for the Piston style cause wanted the ink window. It's my 1st Estie and I'm glad I chose this one to start me off. Btw, Happy (early) Birthday!
My wife would love this pen simply because of the name. It’s a whole thing. Perhaps we will find it at the DC Pen Show. Will you be at the Show or at Go Wild?

Thanks Tom! And yeh, knew I wanted the push button model. Writes like a dream too. 😊
I got my PIP sheets. I'll try them and see if the system is for me. 🥰 I'm excited to see your new pen 🖋️

Haha, yes I am eating my own words in saying I'm not attracted to Esties. Who knows, more of them might find their way into my collection. 🤣
Have the Maui model because I was born/raised there. Don't need another Esterbrook. Glad you got yours.
I went back and forth between Sea Grass and Maui, but I’m so glad I chose the Maui. It’s gorgeous.
I'm beginning to believe that there is an Estie for everyone....including me now. 😊
