It is unfortunate that so many people are trying so hard to keep our water clean and plentiful, but our local governments continue to approve new development projects like the Carmelita Mine and Reclamation Project in Fresno County. This project will create over 500 acres of 50-foot deep mining pits that will expose groundwater to contamination, will attract mosquitos in an area that is already a West Nile Virus Hotspot, and will waste millions of gallons of groundwater to evaporation every year in perpetuity.
