Have fun experimenting with the watercolor stencil hack! If you want to learn more watercolor texture techniques, check out my course, Creative Textures for Watercolor 🩵: jackiehernandez.studio/ctw
That is genius! Absolutely amazing. I tried it straight away. And I didn't even have to use any watercolour. I use my best brushes for Distress Oxide in colour families. I grabbed my green family brush, a piece of 80lb Neenah Solar White and a holly background stencil. Just dipped my brush into a tiny amount of water, tapped in off on an acrylic block, applied gently in a circular motion et voila! A beautifully blended, variegated holly background. It laid down as smooth as silk, used hardly any ink/water and looks amazing. So much quicker than ink blending. I'm 100% sure that I could use this with my watercolour too, but will have to get a colour family of clean brushes for that. Right now I'm loving my new "wet ink blending/stencilling" technique. Thank you, thank you!
2:12 the problem: watercolour brushes hold too much water 3:09 solution: use inkblending brushes Can't easily wash them out between colours, as needs to dry first, so get several for multicoloured projects. 6:50 how to clean them
That’s my foundation and under eye concealer brush. They’re great for getting full coverage without it being cakey. I never would have thought to use them for ink or watercolor.
Great sounding course! As a papercrafter with generous sets of blending brushes for various inks and color families, I have a few 'leftover' brushes just as the favorite you profile. I ❤watercoloring and will give this a go! Thanks for the tip! I'll be checking out your courses!
Glad you already have brushes to try it with. It can open up a whole new world of color possibilities if you have lots of watercolor. Have fun with it!
These are my Favourite kind of blending brushes but I never thought of trying it with watercolour! I would definitely use separate ones to watercolour because I don't clean my inky ones! 😊
Oh wow that's so cool! It never occurred to me to use watercolor with stencils! Then again I recently got into watercolor, so that's logical lol. I have a ton of stencils and brushes. I will have to give that a go. I will take your course at some point too. Currently I am taking some at Skillshare, and I can't do more than three at a time lol 🤣 Thanks for sharing! 😊👍
This is so exciting! Thank you for sharing. I’ve used those brushes to stencil pastel onto dry watercolor and loved it. I will definitely be experimenting with watercolor stencils again-since prior experience with it was the messy result.
There is a reason why the “ink blending” brushes apply the medium so smoothly…it’s because they are actually COSMETIC brushes defined for a smooth application of foundation. The craft industry just too very inexpensive makeup brushes and repurposed them under a new craft product label and added $$$ to the price. It’s a scam.
I don’t think re-marketing tools for another purpose is a scam. I do agree though there are some blending brushes that seem overpriced. I have a nice cheap set! I actually got the set of rainbow color brushes for less than the 3 black brushes I purchased at the craft store.
Punchinella is also known as sequin waste - the leftover strip after the sequins are punched out. I got mine on Etsy. I bought a set of small pieces (6-8”) in all different shapes. Hope that helps!

Glad you enjoyed it! You’ll have to try with watercolor too 😊
I've also used a small makeup applicator sponge for stenciling with both Watercolour & Acrylic and it works beautifully☺ Thanks for Sharing, Jackie🙏🏽💞
Great tip! I’ve used those for acrylic but didn’t have as much success with watercolor.

Same. It’s best to have a set just for watercolor. Hope you have fun with this new technique.
Try it with the ink on your brush, just add the tiniest amount of water, it's magic!!
I have a make up brush set like that, haven’t used it for make up in an age. Yay, repurpose!
