I just stumbled upon this video by chance after I started drawing various shapes and patterns with black pens (often mixed with watercolors) a few weeks ago. Even though I’m a total perfectionist and not particularly good at drawing or painting, it has absolutely captivated me and helped prevent me from reaching full burnout! So far, I was only familiar with doodling and Zentangle, which I enjoyed but didn’t feel fully connected to. Now, I’ve come across your video and heard about mark making for the first time, and it really resonates with my style and taste! Your video was super helpful, and I was able to take away some great insights! Thanks so much for that! PS: Since you mention your kids, I’m curious-how do you involve them in your practice? Do they sit with you while you’re drawing or being creative? My kids are 3 and 5, and I’m still trying to figure out how to integrate my “drawing meditation” into our daily routine.

I used to purchase a pack of tracing paper (8.5”X11”) and placed it between my drawing and the watercolor paper. No matter how hard I tried I always ended up with a messy watercolor sheet. Since then I either cover the back of my drawing with light graphite or, if I already know what paint is going where, I used a watercolor pencil. That pencil dissolved when I started painting. Your last method of just applying pencil where the drawing’s lines are is what I do if the drawing is very simple. Again, if I know what paint colors go where I will use a watercolor pencil on the backside of the drawing. Great video. I am sure many people learned a great technique.

It’s actually backwards with negative painting. Whatever you cover with masking fluid will appear on top/in front in the finished painting. So you mask the foreground objects first, so they stay the lightest. Hope that helps.

Worst advice ever. Your tape method doesn't work because your wetting the paper BEFORE tapping it down. Tape it down with gum tape THEN you wet it. NOT after. After its dry, Then you paint...voila!, it doesnt buckle because its pre-"stretched" which is the wrong term to really use... Because you never actually stretch the paper, you are securing it and letting the shrink process happen by resisting it. That causes the paper to flatten and resist the wrinkling the next time its wet. The term STRETCHING is not meant to be litteral. You dont actually stretch the paper. its just resistance to the wet shrink process. please get an art degree and tell me they teach different, ill wait. Also, If your paper is larger than A3, staples will TEAR the paper from the shrink no matter how many you use, never use staples. Just another amateur youtuber trying to sell art books as a side hustle to people who don't know better. For crying out loud her finished piece is a wrinkled mess. So adorable how ever millennial soccer mom learns a skill at a super elementary level then becomes a RUclips expert selling cheap eBooks etc. Can't wait for all the triggered soccer moms comments to this. lol <Made by spambot24 using ChatGPT>

Ooh, my husband is trying to get me to do pickleball. It looks fun. Not sure if it helps, but my favorite types of art now are all ones I didn’t think I would enjoy. I thought I would like acrylic paint or gouache but I didn’t enjoy either. I thought I’d hate college because of glue-mess, but I loved it. Same with watercolor, I didn’t think it was for me until I tried it. Keep trying new things!
