I absolutely hate them and would never live near one, I don't care if a neighbor has junk cars I'd much rather have the ability to put out my own decorations or paint the house whatever color I wanted.
Apartments also have HOA. There is no escape. Worse for apartments too in some cases: they can even complain about your heating consumption or having your lights on late.
In these scenarios I always think about the aftermath, like what do you even tell your family and work after you just went missing without a trace? "Yeah I went through a portal and got trapped in another dimension" because you clearly can't say that

So to summarize: Nice house but HOA sucks, To solve this problem be at the house as little as possible? Just don’t buy the house then…. Why would someone get something just to avoid using it?

When you started out the story by mentioning an HOA, I knew IMMEDIATELY that it was going to be TRUE HORROR (sorry, flashbacks lol) 😂
