    "Amid reporting that Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris will make her debut policy speech targeting price gouging, Fox News personalities are falsely claiming that there’s no evidence that supermarkets engaged in profiteering and criticizing Harris for “bash[ing] businesses.” However, in March, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reported that large grocery companies raised their prices higher than their costs, and several other studies have illustrated that such profiteering was a significant driver of inflation."

      They don't have record profits...and prices are determined by many things including: the purchasing of the dollar, energy costs, labor costs, manufacturing costs, transportation costs, and real estate. Everything has gone up dramatically. This is the government not accepting responsibility for the problems they created. A vote for Harris is a vote for a bigger, more expensive federal government that overreaches into the private economy. It's socialism and it does not work.

      Then don't buy the stuff. If you think the price is too high, find a different product. Use a different service provider. That's what I do. That's called capitalism. Higher prices are caused by inflation which is a result of too much money in the market which is a direct result of the Biden Harris administration policies. But don't hold your politicians accountable.

      @commonsenseparty1396 don't even know what to say here. I don't think you understand how government economic policies have caused this. If you go back to Obama the same exact thing happened. Everything skyrocketed and Americans were barely getting by. Companies are not price gouging because if that was the case. Why is housing, clothing, utilities, gas, and everything so high. Everything is being ran by our government. You can't have water, electricity, cars, and list goes on. Without the permission of the government. Meaning the government controls everything. The government has caused this due to their prices. So now companies have to raise prices to make a little profit. To pay employees, supplies, and whatever else they need to keep going. If she goes through with her plan and she becomes president. It will destroy America and Americans. Businesses will leave America because they will not profit. Meaning less jobs, less resources, and more homeless Americans. I don't think you truly understand what will happen. America buys and trades from countries all over. Tools, clothes, phones, computers, laptops, appliances and list goes on and on. Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and only spending on groceries, bills, and essentials to stay a float. Meaning if Americans don't buy the items that other countries make. Than our economy hurts and other countries hurt. This is why a lot of companies are leaving democratic state's. I know it sucks to hear it because you are a Democrat but even CNN admitted if Kamala does it. That it would destroy our country. Right now is not the time to put our emotions into politics. This will destroy future generations and they will never afford to buy a home. This what Trump knew best and why we had more jobs and money. This is why world leaders from other nations respected him and no wars. He made everyone all over the world money. When we were thriving other countries were thriving too. If she becomes president and when she goes through with it. The only thing that will fix our economy would be world war. Especially since liberal media news are the only ones who who are talking about world war 3. World war 2 started when we were in a great depression and we are at a all time high inflation. During world War 1 and 2 we had democratic presidents in power. All I know is I hope you are willing to die and fight for her. No doubt in my heart if she wins we are going to war and will be forced to fight. If you really pay attention the whole world is waiting and watching to see who will be the next U.S. president. Much love to you and hope you will do your own research on what I just said.

      Nope. Not True. Inflation is caused by government spending beyond what their intake is and increasing the money supply. Economics classes will teach you this. Economics is very much founded on Mathematics. You can see the Math in the prices. Corporate Greed will only push a Corporation OUT of BUSINESS because consumers will NOT buy their stuff. Competition is the choice the Consumer has. If someone is priced too high consumers simply will NOT buy it! And that causes the price to FALL.
      Dear khrfx4715, please take several Economics courses before posting that misleading claim. And also please post a LINK to the "studies" you claim, because I guarantee you those supposed "studies" do not have to do with Economics.

    Price gouging of pharmaceutical drugs makes no sense to me; if you as a company charge medications so much that many potential customers can't afford them, then how are you going to make money off those medications in the long-term with only the wealthy top percentage of the population being able to afford them? I think The U.S. Federal Government needs to have some form of price control to ensure that we don't pay an absurd amount for prescriptions compared to other developed countries. If a bottle of pills in say Germany costs $6.00, that same bottle of pills shouldn't cost more then 50% extra here in The U.S., which would be $9.00 in this case. I'm not saying pharmaceutical companies don't deserve to make profit for their research & development, but they shouldn't be able to charge insane prices for their life saving products that most uninsured Americans can't afford.

    • @Joey-ct8bm
      @Joey-ct8bm 25 дней назад +2

      Very easy. We got that same US medicine in the Netherlands for 10% what Americans pay. They do sell it for cheap all over the world, just not in the US. All those new medicines have patents. The German pills are the same pills of the same US company. The even crazier thing is that they get subsidies from the government to research those medicines. Your US taxpayers money goes to development. Your system is so crazy it should make you revolution mad.
      My country has private healthcare with price regulations and our healthcare insurance we buy ourself here. Healthcare insurance is on the consumer market, not with your employer. The insurance companies fight for the cheapest prices. Healthcare insurance is mandatory and poor people get social benefits for it. One bad thing about is that in 2014 they thought to put a own risk policy on it, so i've you use it you got to pay up to 375 euro. Not so bad for the US, but for us it's a disaster. Defaets the whole purpose of healthcare for poor people. There are a lot of things covered thought without having to pay your own risk. Especially many preexisting conditions.
      With everything you pay 250 a month with dental. You choose every year a new insurance. You can opt out dental and pay 130 euro's a month if your teeth are good for a year.
      It's no universal, but it's pretty good.

    Administrations can influence prices but ultimately cannot begin to fix prices or put a ceiling on them without negative consequences. Harris would be smart to not do this. But things that can alleviate rising food costs are many, but a few are: 1) Encourage small-scale and urban agriculture to increase local food supply 2) Regulate or limit the role of speculative investments in short-term food volatility (probably very difficult to implement), 3) Implement cash transfer or food assistance programs to help vulnerable populations during price spikes 4) Diversify crop production to reduce reliance on a few staple foods 5) Develop community-based support systems and food banks 6) Improve local food distribution networks 7) Raise awareness about diverse, nutritious diets using local ingredients
    - Provide guidance on adapting to price changes while maintaining nutrition

They will make no profit and meaning government can control the price on everything. Will be less jobs, less resources, more homeless Americans. Companies are not price gouging because if that was the case why is everything higher. Housing, vehicles, utilities, groceries, gas and list goes on and on. So are you implying that every business in America is price gouging? Wake up and pay attention because of she wins and applies those policies. America and Americans are done for. I seriously question the premise that government aid in response to COVID-19 pandemic shut downs way back in 2020-2022 has caused the inflation that currently exists. During the pandemic shut downs, businesses were closed and people were out of work. The govt. aid was to keep citizens from having to eat out of trash cans and live on the streets. Many people had no other income during that time! The shut downs have been over with going on 2.5 years or more now. The supply chains are back online, businesses are open, workers are back to work, the govt. aid has stopped since then so what are people talking about the gov.t aid is still causing this inflation? That's bull crap, and you know it! These businesses went up on their prices due to corporate greed. They are trying to make up for lost income from the pandemic shut downs so they are inflating the prices b/c they can do so w/o anyone stopping them! It is just that plain and simple! Kamala doesn't know a thing about running the country and what she plans to do is actually make things even worse for Americans. Companies left America because of high taxes. • @josevillarreal6193

      @RodriquezS I don't think you understand what they are talking about. Especially I don't think you understand how no business can be ran without government permission and paying taxes. The reason why everything is so high is because our government has raised those taxes to corporations to a extremely high rate. Biden and Harris are to blame. Same thing happened with Obama when he was president. Companies have to raise prices to make a little profit. To pay employees, supplies and other things to keep their business going and growing. So the price gouging is false because everything has gone up. Electricity, water, housing, clothes, and list goes on and on. So that world mean that every company in America is cheating Americans. My point is the democratic economic policies are to blame. We buy and trade from countries all over. Tools, clothes, phones, computers, appliances, and list goes on and on. Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and only spending on groceries, bills, and essentials to stay a float. Meaning if Americans are not buying items from other countries than our economy hurts and other countries hurt. If she becomes president and goes through with that policy. America and Americans are done. Businesses will leave America in droves. Meaning less jobs, less resources, more homeless Americans. Meaning the only thing left to fix our economy would be war. This is what Trump knew best and wanted to bring back Businesses. This is why world leaders from other nations respected him and we had no wars. He made everyone in the world money. If you really pay attention you will see leaders from every nation are waiting to see who will become president. They know exactly what is coming and no doubt in my heart if she wins we are going to war. World war 1 and 2 started under democratic presidents. World war 2 started when we were in a great depression. Much love to you and your family. Hopefully you will do some research and understand more on what I was talking about.

      There are around 4 "means of production -- land, labor, facilities/tools, & resources.
      When the cost of those thing goes up, then you have to raise the price of the product you produce in order to maintain your profit margin. Oil is the easiest example.
      Alex, Trump did find an ungodly amount of oil, right under out feet. All you have to do is look back to the Trump administration. Gas was like $1.97/gallon. Inflation was about zero. Mortgage rates were like 2%. That's undeniable, no matter how much you hate Trump for some ungodly reason.
      Oil was cheap because there was a lot of it being produced right in the USA. The more of anything being produced, the cheaper the price is. Do you remember a few years ago how Biden was panicked when OPEC said they were producing LESS oil which would drive prices up? He raided the strategic reserve in a silly effort to bring prices down.....the reserve that Trump built up when oil was cheap. BASIC ECON.
      It makes absolutely zero sense to blame corporations for inflation when they are having to pay more for the means of production thanks to Biden/Harris's idiotic policies. But I do know that when any business can't make sufficient profit, they go outta business. And I know that every time price controls have been tried, it has led to disaster ---- Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, even Nixon in the 1970s. Every economist on TV, even liberals say it's a horrible idea.

      She is paid for by this same corporations that donate millions and millions to their campaign. God some people are extremely stupid. Why is it that Obama on his 8 year presidency is worth over $120 million. The same thing happened under Obama when he was president. They make millions while corporations make billions. They are bought and paid for to cheat Americans over. Yet when Trump was president our economy was thriving and countries all over the world were thriving. This is why they are smearing Trumps name and don't want him to be president again. Prices went down and people had money to consume and buy items that were made from other countries. He knew business and how to buy and trade. I am a independent voter but you truly need to educate yourself. Trump was creating jobs and bringing businesses back to America. I know you are loyal to the democratic party and don't want it to be true. All I know is if she wins and puts her policy in place. Things will get even worse and prices will skyrocket even higher.

      If corporate expenses remained the same and profit margins increased 20% (it's not exact but not far off) and they also increased 20% last quarter while costs for the corporations remained exactly the same...Where do you think the additional profits came from? Profit margins increasing are literally what they call "inflation." There's a difference between gouging and inflation. There's a difference between "inflation" and corporations simply raising prices and increasing dividends to shareholders

    • @lawjoshay
      @lawjoshay 22 дня назад

      Inflation and price gouging both involve rising prices, but they differ significantly in scope, causes, and ethical implications.
      Inflation: is an economy-wide phenomenon where the general price level of goods and services increases over time, leading to a decline in the purchasing power of money. Causes of inflation include increased demand (demand-pull), higher production costs (cost-push), or an expanded money supply (monetary inflation). It affects almost all sectors of the economy and is a natural part of economic cycles, influenced by broad factors like government policies, market conditions, and global events. Inflation is typically gradual and systemic, with varying degrees of impact.
      Price gouging: is a practice that involves sharply raising prices on essential goods and services during crises or emergencies, exploiting increased demand and limited supply. It is localized and temporary, occurring in specific areas or markets affected by events like natural disasters or pandemics. Unlike inflation, price gouging is generally considered unethical and is often illegal, with laws to prevent it during emergencies.
      While inflation is a widespread and often unavoidable economic process, price gouging is opportunistic, driven by the intent to profit excessively from consumers in vulnerable situations. Inflation reflects broader economic trends, whereas price gouging is a targeted and often exploitative response to specific crises.
