Great Vid! We have a 135k BTU Unit at our POA. I've been told it fires but will not ignite. I've yet to check it myself. Just learn about the general operation & your video was an excellent resource. Thanks, God Bless from NE PA. :)
Thanks for commenting! Glad you found it useful. We also did a short recently on how a worn spray nozzle can trigger the photocell and shut down the burner. God bless you too, and keep us posted on how it goes!
Outstanding presentation on teaching us the principles and functions of these units.
Glad I realized it's a machine, and like all other machines ever created, needs maintenance to upkeep proper functionality.
I appreciate your Uncle/Grandpa guidance
Glad to help. Thanks for commenting!
THANK YOU! i started having issues with my 20+ year old All Pro PK115t a few years ago, it would stink, cut out on it's own, and burn a lot of Diesel. This year it was so bad it would not run for even 20 minutes without cutting out. I saw your video, disassembled the unit and ordered the parts. New air and fuel filters, pickup tube, cleaned IR sensor and a new igniter, soaked and cleaned the nozzle. I also got a gauge and found the pressure at 6.7, when it called for 5.1. It now runs like a champ. No obnoxious smell, no cutting out, and far less fuel consumption. I also ordered a flow through filter funnel and will send all the fuel through that in the future. ( Also an extra air adjustment kit, just in case) Again, my lungs thank you!
Glad we could help. Thanks for commenting!
Is the glow plug supposed to cut out once the fuel ignites? My problem is that the fuel will ignite but won’t stay lit and then everything shuts down and I have to unplug it and wait ten seconds before I can try to start it again. Also if I put the top cover on it will not ignite at all. any thoughts on a fix would be greatly appreciated. Could it be a bad igniter control board? Please advise, thank you!
Thank you very much for this incredibly informative and straight forward tutorials into the maintenance of these wonderful heaters. I appreciate your work a lot!
@AlwaysSullied -- We're glad you found it helpful. Thanks for the kind words!
Excellent presentation! Very well organized with great audio quality and videography. I found this video to be several levels better than most other videos on this topic. Thanks!

Time for a cleaning and air adjustment on my heater in the greenhouse
Nice video thank you
@jaylandry8915: Glad it was helpful. Thanks for commenting!
Over 30 years of spraying in my spray booth, while heating with a 160k btu magnum torpedo heater running the entire time. No issues, no explosions, no fires.
If it works in your situation that's great! I have to admit it wouldn't have occurred to me to even try with flammable/explosive vapors around, but we each have to judge our own conditions/environment. Thanks for commenting!
You may get away with that practice for many days, weeks or years but it takes just one bad day to change your life forever, if you live through it. Ask me how I know.@@ShopTalesandLore
Very informative video..
You nailed it on all levels. What about the ignitor?
Great question! We have a "deeper dive" vid in the works that will include ignitors, dealing with worn pump rotors and some other aspects. By the way, if you need to remove one of those hot surface ignitors for testing, take care -- they are really fragile, and replacements can run $40 or more. Thanks for commenting!
Great video. Where can I get parts for my readdy heater filters and maybe motor.
@billypat9370 -- The more common repair parts like filter kits, ignitors and nozzles are on amazon and eBay. For major components like motors you may have to go to one of the big parts outlets like spaceheaterparts.com or equipsupply.com. If yours is an older (pre-2009) model, also check out www.reddyheaters.net. Thanks for commenting!
@@ShopTalesandLore thanks again yes my heater is 30 yrs old and the fan is hard to turn.

Nice video...I have a reddy heater 55,000 I just bought at a garage sale...I put all new filters cleaned the air pump and nozzle...it runs ok but the front cone doesn't glow red just the circumference does...the pump pressure is set at 3.4 as noted on the machine...so should I leave it as is or bump up the pressure to get a nice red glow ??
Thank You...🖖
@Chuck Cirelli - it’s probably best to stick with the manufacturer’s recommended pressure. If the heater has some significant time on it, it may be time to replace the nozzle. DESA, the company that used to build the majority of these heaters, at one point recommended replacing the nozzle every year. Personally, I think that’s overkill, but if the nozzle orifice is worn, it may be producing a spray pattern/flame shape that still generates heat, but doesn’t light up the nose cone efficiently. Thanks for commenting, and keep us posted on how it works out!
From where / who did you end up sourcing your plastic fuel filter grommet? I can't find one. I'm betting it's not a proprietary part but, who makes them?
@kurtism9040 -- honestly this slipped off my radar and I haven't changed it yet. I agree with you that there is nothing special about the grommet, it's just a matter of finding the right ID/OD combination. For individual/single grommets, I'm thinking automotive parts retailers might be a good way to go. Thanks for commenting!
@ShopTalesandLore BTW, great video. Thanks for the reply.
Any idea where I can buy a replacement air filter?
@Patg1911: Filter kits for most makes & models are on Amazon and eBay. Thanks for commenting!
I’ve replaced everything on my Dayton 110,000. Pump impeller, vanes, photo eye, clean fuel, filters,(air and fuel) fuel atomizer, air filter housing and it will ignite, but won’t stay lit. Fuel pressure is close to spec. Is there anything else I can do to keep this lit? Please help!
New igniter also. I didn’t check the contacts on the photo cell. Is there anything else to check on the circuit board?
@ReedSevitts-rh7hy: sputtering or flaming out is often related to a blocked or worn nozzle orifice, but it sounds like you have already changed the nozzle along with the other parts. One other thing you might check/renew is the air and fuel lines. Even small cracks can rob air pump pressure or cause the fuel line to suck air, either one of which could prevent the unit from staying lit. Beyond that, the circuit board may not be working properly, but that's pretty rare. If that turns out to be the case, you'll save a lot of time and frustration by just getting a new board. Thanks for commenting, and keep us posted on how it works out!
@@ShopTalesandLore thank you for getting back with me. New nozzle and air and fuel lines. The igniter was replaced but with a different style. new one is a glow rod style. The igniter does not stay on after ignition. Can’t find an original replacement igniter on Amazon. Could there be inconsistency in the fuel pressure /dispersion ?
@ReedSevitts-rh7hy: sounds like you've covered all the common issues and then some! The only other thing I could suggest is maybe something is calibrated in the photocell or circuitry that doesn't like the substitute igniter. The big online parts suppliers like spaceheaterparts.com or equipsupply.com carry practically everything for a major brand like Dayton.
I've got a Daytona 100000 BTU Yes if I start it with the top off it runs fine and I can put the top back on while it's running but if I shut it off And then go back and try to turn it on it will not ignite any ideas
Thanks for commenting! Assuming the heater's basics are OK (good fuel, fuel pump pressure is correct, no air leaks in the compressor or fuel lines, etc.), this condition usually indicates a partially plugged or worn nozzle, which can cause a coarse spray pattern. A properly working nozzle produces fine atomization of the fuel -- more like a mist. With the cover off, the fan moves air through the combustion chamber with less force, which can change the shape of the nozzle's spray cone (typically making the cone wider). The shape (and color) of the flame produced by this wider pattern may be just good enough to satisfy the photocell, so everything keeps running. With the top in place, air moves through the chamber at higher velocity. When combined with a worn or blocked nozzle, the photocell is probably seeing a flame shape or color it doesn't like, and shuts everything down.
If there's no improvement after giving the nozzle a good cleaning and shot of compressed air, it may be time to try a new nozzle. Let us know how it works out!
hello i have issuses with my heater would you mabye be willing to take a look and help me with it?
@RaWax: In the video we tried to cover the most common issues. I'd suggest working through the checks and adjustments one by one, and installing a new filter kit. Even if there's no significant time on the heater, contaminated fuel and/or a dusty operating environment may have trashed one or more of the filters. Thanks very much for commenting, and keep us posted on what you find!
ive already did that i gave it new filters checked the gap in the airpump and even cleaned them so they drop freely then i cleaned the fotocell and the nozzel and stil it is acting up it fires up but is turning of and on non stop and when i adjust the airpressure there seams to be notingh happening

My heater has been working fine, but today started to NOT shutting off automatically. I have to unplug it to shut it off. Before today it has been as should with no issue.
@brianthorpe6750: Sounds like the first thing to check is the thermostat. If there's no audible click when rotating the knob, the contacts are likely stuck or broken. A continuity test with a good VOM will be more definitive. Typically the thermostat can be replaced for around $30-$35, so it may be worth the gamble to go ahead and get one even if you are not set up to test the old one. Thanks for commenting, and keep us posted on how it goes!
thank you@@ShopTalesandLore
My heater is smoking and blowing terrible smoke and fumes what do I do
@richardrybicki3400 -- any of a number of things could cause this, from old or contaminated fuel to clogged air/fuel filters to insufficient air pump pressure to a faulty igniter to a worn nozzle. Your best bet is to get a new filter kit and walk through the inspection/adjustment steps in the video one by one. Thanks for commenting, and keep us posted!
