Loved this!! That feeling of pride, saying you're an ultra runner, is the BEST! (Even if you've had to walk sections.) I've run several 50ks and trail marathons, but my longest training run ever has only been 12 miles. I'm lucky that i haven't gotten injured, but the low training meant more time for life and months of feeling great leading up to the ultra- being exhausted and sore for a week after was fine, i didn't want to for months before too! I'll up my training to 15-16 miles, but that's it. The timed lap courses are great for anyone wanting to give ultras a try!
Wow, you are tough. I hadn't run more than a half marathon race and this weekend just completed a 50k, actually did 51k. It was all hills and very rough, but I've been training for my first full marathon so I had some preparation. Thanks for posting this video. Great to see your story. I too uploaded my first 50k video on youtube, by doing this I think we're encouraging people who would've otherwise never thought of running long, to give it a shot.
I am doing marathon 10 years training (2 done )aiming to do under 4 hrs when 60 ,getting my pension, done 20 miles treadmill 9.4 km/hr ,hit a bit of wall at end ,but was fine when I got off
Many things changes since then, but you are still funny!! Thank you again for all these videos. I just paid for my first 50k in one month time, and I'm trying to learn from someone elses mistakes, I hope you made few from which I can avoid!
Two points from this. 1. NEVER listen to anyone on running forums, go and do your thing. 2. Running is 90% mental. Tons of people achieve Ultra finishes off the back of no or a little training because they have mind strength. Get the mind right and you can achieve anything in life.
Love this! I’m doing a 50k in 25 days from now with zero training! I’ve done this distance many times, done many ocr races, thing is day after signing up I crashed on a mtn bike. This should be fun!
“I’m ultra running” 😂 although is ultra runners do like to walk as well. Although I’m stubborn!! Kind of adopt the ultra shuffle instead of walk. Find comfort in the discomfort
Ive got my first 50K in 16 days Did my last big run tonight 32k 3.30Hrs it took… had fruit drinks etc every 5K stopped consumed than walked for 50mtrs then went again.. hardest part is judging ur consumption of water especially with ur foods…
We're similar in 5/10k times and I had an idea to try an ultra. Thanks for demonstrating how terrible of an idea that was. Good luck on the Beasts. I've got my first coming up in Austria in less than a month now.
That makes sense. I had the same idea except I decided to follow a marathon training program instead (I used the standard Garmin HR-based plan). In the end though, I never spent more than 3.5 hours on my feet so I'm not sure how well it'll translate to a 4-5 hour Beast. My Beast has a 900m climb/decent in the second half and I at least managed to get a few good hillclimbing workouts in.
@@MarkLewisfitness speaking of hills, this might help. This is a website someone put together as a kind of Spartan race database. For some races there are GPS links. There is a GPS link (Garmin website) for the Edinburgh Ultra Beast which I believe is 2 laps of the Beast course. That should give you some idea of the "hills" involved :) cett.github.io/srevents/
I don't do running, but stopped around and watched anyway. Perhaps I thought he'll come to his senses soon and get the 701 out, or do some mods on the CRF, but no, and more power to you. Well done on the achievment 50k is quite something. The end and the 50k sign did look like Forest Gump, where he decided he would stop and go home. Do seek medical assistance if the Jeep symptoms persist.😀
Ur diet must be such a key to ur running .. my weight 101kg atm idk I feel thirsty as hell when I’m running .. it is really humid in Cairns QLD Australia but idk should I not eat at all before I run ?
everyone is different so you have to find what works for you. i think the most important thing really especially in australia would be hydration with water and electrolytes. i personally eat 3 eggs 3 toast an hour or so before and then take 4 crumpets with peanut butter on and 4 gels with me and 1.5 litre water + 1.5 litre electrolytes.
This is so funny because how you explain it all is the EXACT reason why we go back 😂😂😂 have you ran anything further since this? I’ll have a look. We go out to feel like that lol it’s when you can run 50k and it’s “just a 50k race” 😂 I’ve ran five 100 mile races but I think 100k distance is my favourite
Did you actually say during the video that you used to weigh over 300lbs?! Now there’s a video to make - from that to the ‘anti dad bod’ version of you now.
It's painful knowing the pain you are going to be in. Oh yeah, out and back is a mentally strenuous way to run a long race. Every hour you have to listen to your body telling you to "STOP!"

How far you've come since then! 😁 Run Forrest! Run! Awesome 👍

Ha! I made plenty!
You sir are a beast mind much love from the Netherlands, respect
Loved this! I didn’t train either… think it’s more the mental challenge! Congrats!

Very impressive! Sounds like the hardest thing was the mental side of it.. which tends to be the case with endurance
Pretty cool. I love the idea: do hard things. It is so rewarding.
Enjoyed the video! I’ve done trail and road half marathons. I’m now researching training needs for a 50k.
I'm watching this in 2021. I'm going to check to see if he ran another! Great job!
Ha! 2 more since then and plenty of marathons! Would have been more but 4 50ks got cancelled last year 🙄
You are a f@@king madman but I love it . Well done.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Gosh Mark I do like you style and presentation
A Wrangler in brunt orange is an excellent reason to run a 50k 🙂
most I have done is a half marathon! Doing my first 50km with saturn running in Durham Sunday! :D
2nd watch, gosh I do like your style.. Godrevy beach and cliff path 10k for me tomorrow
Okay now I'm sure. This man loves running ultras without training.

Well done I've just started watching your channel...out of interest did you control your heart rate in the way you wanted or thought?
this is awesome I'm thinking about a 50k in April if they don't cancel

Great video👍 I ran my first 50k ultra (3,000ft) a few weeks ago. But my longest run was 18 miles (300ft) not 10k 😳 I’ve ✅ that box...never again!

I agree 😂
Needed 12 hours for 55k
Are you F crazy haha 😂.. god dam
You look skinny in this. You haven’t blossomed but you have filled out and look better since you recorded this
Meant to say “you didn’t look bad then or now” but yea gads you look fitter and healthier now
