Mame is an unconventional individualist socialite from the roaring 20's. When her brother dies, she is forced to raise her nephew Patrick. However, Patrick's father has designated an executor to his will to protect the boy from absorbing too much of Mame's rather unconventional perspective. Patrick and Mame become devoted to each other in spite of this restriction, and together journey through Patrick's childhood and the great depression, amidst some rather zaney adventures.

Just watched it this week on TCM. The funniest & most enduring comedy of all time. Saw it in the movies when I was 12 years old & loved it then. If this movie doesn't put you in a good mood, nothing will!!.....simply a gem from beginning to end!
someone just told me about it! can't wait to watch!
In my Top Five of all time. Always drives away the blues with laughs! Rosalind was outstanding and unique!
I would love to hear your top 5...
We should all have an Auntie Mame.
Robert Trepagnier, I do try.😜
I would try, but my sister refuses to even introduce me to her children. It hurts me so much. I read this book as a child and watch this movie from a young age. She knows. It hurts so much.
I promise, this is how my Granma(Gran) was and what even funnier, her nieces qnd nephews called her Auntie Mame....Lord knows I miss my spit fire of a Grandma, we had a beautiful, wonderful and pure bond....I miss you Mamie Lee....your Punty Dunty...
@@1chienandalou I hope and pray that you are able to be the Auntie Mame....All Love
Even Star Trek had an Auntie Mame!
How I miss the old classics. Rarely do you see films like this any more. Feel good stuff...
Auntie Mame was a work of genius because of Rosalind's performance.
steveb1164 First of all, you don’t know that with 100% certainty, but even if it is true, I don’t blame her in the slightest. She pretty much WAS Mame, and I think even she recognized that. That is basically her signature role. Hell, Patrick Dennis himself specifically wanted Russell to play her if it was ever made into a film or play. She made the role hers and you can tell that she put every last ounce of energy she had into it. So I wouldn’t have blamed her if she did.
But, that doesn’t sound like something she would do. She was known for being one of the kindest, most gracious and charitable stars in Hollywood and she was a devout Catholic. I think she was above that kind of pettiness.
@@steveb1164 Says you.
My favorite movie EVER. First watched this in my father's office at our department store. I was 16. Enraptured by this movie. 58 now. Just watched it and got a thrill.
" Auntie Mame " is my favorite movie of all time.
It's the scenes (changes), that fade to black that make the movie.
My 2nd fave movie ever.
What’s #1?
One of my all time favorite movies.
One of my ALL TIME favorite movies and musicals. Now that I'm an aunt, I want to be just like MAME!

I love this film so much! My roommate and I would watch it on occasion and recite many of the lines together… Laughing hysterically! A true classic of the heart and mind on many levels. ❤❤❤
One of my all time favourite movies!
Betty here....great movie, especially the horse riding sequence! I wish the entire movie was available.
Love Rosalind Russell - she is the only Auntie Mame!
Rosalind Russell is on the (pathetically) long list of gifted screen performers who never won a competitive Oscar. A hit parade that includes:
1. All four of Hollywood's legendary love goddesses -- Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Jean Harlow, and Marilyn Monroe;
2. All four of Hollywood's greatest musical performers -- Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, and Jane Powell;
3. Cary Grant -- in a class by himself;
4. Men and women with SERIOUS dramatic acting chops -- Peter O'Toole, Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr, Charles Laughton, Barbara Stanwyck, Lillian Gish, and Kirk Douglas, just to name seven.
Garson Kanin had it right: "Forget about fairness in Hollywood. You'll find more justice in any meat market in town."
Well Cary Grant said he doesn’t measure success by awards (which can be a box office flop a failure - but hey! It’s artistic so they “won” some statue 😂)
Cary measure his box office numbers.. how much he’s getting.. money IN is what matters REALLY- that’s where the people will pay for who they liked and what movies they enjoyed 🎥 🍿 was a success or not .
One of my favorites 'aunts' on screen!

I adore this movie!!
Auntie Mame forever!
90s Trekkies don't know that Deanna Troy's mother was modeled after a 1958 movie character called Auntie Mame.
Although I'm not loaded or well-traveled I want to be there for my nephew in exactly this way. This movie is an inspiration to aunties everywhere.
My all-time favorite movie!
Rosalind Russell is Mame, and always will be!! Lucy Ball, you tried.... and did ok....
"You DO have a bust!"
What? lmao!
LIVE! LIVE! LIVE!
1. Auntie Mame
2. Wizard of Oz
3. Imitation of Life
Those were my Moms favorite movies.
Such a classic of all classics! I remember watching it for my first time as a kid in the 60s on television during the Christmas holidays. I like when Mr Babcock exclaims "I' am going to turn this kid into a decent God fearing 'Christian' blahblah" about sending Patrick to the St Bonifice school. Probably couldn't even do that today it might offend someone's religious way. But back then we still put Christian in the forefront. Today it's all but forgot that this country was founded on Christian beliefs.
Judeo-Christian
The movie that taught me what not to do when taking pictures.
LOVE this movie..
Love love love this movie
This over the top trailer doesn't do it justice. This is a classic. that has a great jessage.
Can you please share the link to download auntie mame movie. Thanks:)
I loved her as a nun in , The Trouble with Angels.
I do believe she had a sister.
Did anyone else first watch this on daytime television?
Good movie
Stage or screen...great book.
Where was this filmed at ?⁉️🤔
And here I am trying to practice talking with clinched teeth and not moving my jaw. I look and sound like FDR with a cigarette holder between my teeth.
Jag skulle vilja se den igen. Minns den som jätterolig😂😂😂
A mistake on my part: Charles Laughton DID win a competitive Oscar for "The Private Life of Henry VIII".
❤❤❤
Poor Aunty Ma'am.
Shid! Think this movie is groovy, read the book!!!
Mary Poppins; Martin Luther King, jr: Christmas.
🥂
She reminds me of Eva Green.
She looks like another French actress : Anny Duperey.
a toure de force
Looks like a man wearing the glove at the beginning. Large hand, short finger nails.
