Hi there, I have signed up for The Grand Escape ITA/SLO 2024. Would you be so kind as to help me, with your experience from 2023, how to plan the routes? I imagined to cover 600 km in 4 days, 150 km each. The first day is the biggest puzzle for me. Can I get from Udine to Bovec (Slovenia) in one day, where I have already booked to sleep??? It is approximately 155 km (not including the 17 km descent from the Predil pass to Bovec). How did you plan the route? Maybe on the first day I drive more slowly and sleep in Ponteba - 120 km ??? And another question: I see you were cold. The race is at the end of June, was it that cold? Where was the coldest? Recommendation for dressing?? Thanks in advance.
Hi there, it's quite fun to stumble on this video and see someone asking those questions (As I'm asking myself the same 😉) I'm also participating in the 2024 edition and planning around 150km/day for 4 days total. I also planned to go until Bovec in the first day, a big day ahead. It seems the 2023 edition was mid October, so I hope in June the weather should be warmer. I'm sure it can get quite cold in the mountains anyway. Do you plan on sleeping in hotels all along or you got a bivouac setup with you as well ? Bests
@@lucasmartin2884 hi, finaly someone out there is alive and will take part in 2024 ITA/SLO edition 🙂. Nice to hear from you. I am so indecisive about my intention to cycle to Bovec on the first day that I have booked several sleeping options along the way. I'm not a fan of spending the night under a tent, so I booked hostels or apartments along the entire route (I am 64 😞) . I've booked a hostel in Pontebba, another hostel in Slovenia just behind the Predil pass and the third hostel in Bovec for 22/23/24.06. 🙂On 18.06. the free cancellation option will expire so I have to make up my mind by then. On the second day I would drive from Bovec to Ljubljana (I haven't booked anything there yet because it won't be a problem to do it on the last day). The third day from Ljubljana to Nova Gorica (I also booked an apartment there) and the fourth day Nova Gorica - Udine. That's my plan, but a lot depends on the weather, especially the first two days.
